Chapter 5

You Need Us

"Crap." Was my reaction to Liam's statement.

"Yep, it's Tentacruel mating season. We wouldn't be able to step a toe in the water without getting crushed by their tentacles," Liam repeated,"so the sea route by Pallet Town isn't an option."

We had gathered our supplies and slept in Asher's apartment. We now stood at the edge of town.

"I guess we can head north to Diglett's Cave and take the pass to Vermillion City and go from there." I suggested.

"Yeah, either that our its the long way around."

We started down the dirt path towards Viridian Forest. We wouldn't be going into the forest but taking a tunnel pass next to it.

A stream of water ran next to us. Magikarp splashed down the stream with there wide open eyes.

"Shinx!" A Pokemon cried out.

The black and blue furred Pokemon came bounding towards us. Zoey had a Shinx. It has to be hers. The cry was very distressed. Was she in trouble?

"Shinx, Shinx!" The Electric-Type quickly pawed at my pant leg.

"Is Zoey in trouble?" I asked.

Shinx nodded his head.

"Let's go." I turned to Liam.

He nodded in agreement. Shinx ran off of on the dirt path. We followed close begind. He lead us to Zoey's camp which was on a hill overlooking the river.

Shinx pointed to a tree at the edge of the cliff. Liam and I went over to it. Zoey was dangling far above the river, holding onto a tree root.

"Hey, do you need some help?" Liam asked lamely.

"No, I'm perfectly fine. I got this." She answered.

Zoey planted a foot on the side of the cliff and tried to walk up. Her feet slipped and she was back to square one.

"You definitely need help." I said.

"No, I don't!"

"Face it, you need us!" Liam proclaimed.

"Why are you even out here?" I asked.

"To catch the thieves! Like you are!" Zoey replied,

"Thieves? I didn't know they stole something." Liam said.

"What did they steal?" I questioned.

"I'm not telling you idiots anything." She answered hotly.

"Okay, lets go Liam." I turned to my friend.

"No!" Zoey screeched, "if you help me up, I'll tell you what I know and I'll let you tag along."

I nodded at Liam and we grabbed her arms and hoisted her up.

"Thank you. I'm going to pack up my stuff. Shinx, lets go." She said without looking at us.

She packed up her camp in a short ten minutes. We then discussed on how to get to the Seafoam Islands.

"We can walk to Diglett's Cave, which will take a day or two, navigate the tunnels and end up in Vermillion. Then, we go from there." Liam suggested.

"Sounds good." I said.

"Anything but the long way works for me." Zoey added.

"Now, what about the 'thieves'?" I asked Zoey.

"After getting out of the medical center, I did a little investigating. I noticed the high school lab was broken into. I checked it out and something was stolen from there. Two Mega stones." Zoey answered.

"As in Mega Evolution?" Liam asked.

"Yes, moron, Mega Evolution."

"What Mega stones?" I questioned.

"I don't know. But that was what the scientist were researching. The lady with the Magmortar and the guy with the Bisharp were just distractions, most likely."

"Okay, we have our information and we have a destination. Now lets hit the road."

"Right." Liam nodded.

We walked along the dirt path. Zoey stared at her map. Liam had Sandy on his shoulder and my Umbreon was out. Zoey's Shinx was perched on her shoulder with Jolteon at her heels.

Umbreon trotted over to Jolteon and started conversing. I smiled. They were getting along well. Now, if only Liam and I could get along with Zoey.

"How about we tell each other about ourselves? To break the ice!" Liam suggested, "I'll go first. I'm from the Johto region and moved to Cerulean with my aunt and uncle. I train Ground-Types. I love hiking. My favorite color is green and my favorite food is Chili. You go, Griffin."

"Okay, I was born and raised in Pallet Town. I train Dark-Types, obviously. My favorite food is a big ass plate of pasta. My favorite color is black or blue. I have an illegal Frogadier as you all know. I want to become the Pokemon Champion someday. Or a Gym Leader like my big bro, Asher. He's been missing for over a year now and that's why I'm going after the thieves. They know something about him."

Zoey looked away from her map and gave me a sympathetic look.

"I guess I have to go," she groaned,"I am from Celadon City. I train Electric-Types. I hope to take my father's position in the Elite Four or even better, become the champion. My favorite color is sky blue. I have an older sister. And I love Pokemon battling. Is that enough?"

"For now." I grinned.
