Chapter 24

A New Kanto

-Griffin-

"Dragon Rush!" Kane ordered his Salamence.

We had been fighting for awhile now and we had managed to do quiet some damage on Salamence but our Pokemon were worse. Misty, Liam, and Mia were still battling as well. Asher was probably dealing with multiple people in a tunnel somewhere.

Salamance flew high up to the cave ceiling. He darted down with an incredible speed while radiating with energy. Zoey and I's Pokemon tried jumping out of the way but they were flown back by the impact when Salamence crashed to the ground. They both slammed against the wall.

"Would you like to know what I am using all of these for?" Kane gestured to Mega Ring and Mewtwo's collar.

I growled and glanced at Zoey. Kane went on without an answer.

"The Mega Ring is how I will control Mewtwo and his Mega Evolution. You obviously know why I have the Mega Stones. The collar on his neck keeps him under my control and the only thing allowing him to Mega Evolve. I required the Master Ball parts to make the collar work and it also helped with the Mega Ring. I think I'm done with you two now. Salamence, Dragon Rush once more."

The Flying/Dragon-Type took to the air from his crater that he left from the last Dragon Rush.

He started flying down at our Pokemon again.

"Hex, Ice Beam!" I shouted to my Pokemon.

I hadn't been able to hit Salamence with Ice Beam this entire time. Hex's eyes snapped open and a beam of ice shot out from her mouth. Salamence tried swerving out of the way but his wing was hit and became frozen solid. The frozen wing weighed him down and he immediately dropped to cave floor.

Hex got up and shot Ice Beams at Salamence until his wings and limbs were frozen to the ground.

"You may do the honors." I smirked at Zoey.

"Zebstrika, Discharge!" She called out.

Zebstrika got to his feet and released all the electricity he had at Salamence. Salamence thrashed around, trying to free himself from his icy shackles. He roared in pain as he was electrocuted. He slumped to the ground, beaten.

A smile spread across my lips. I felt relieved. Zoey and I returned our Pokemon. We beat Kane. He did not react the way I expected him to. He started slowly applauding as he saw his Salamence, Krista, and Turner were defeated. He was smiling smugly.

"Well done. Well done indeed." He returned his Pokemon and walked over the computers being protected by the barrier.

"Sir, it is complete!" One of his grunts answered.

The barrier was lifted for a short moment so Kane could over to the machines.

I felt as though as I was frozen to the ground. There was nothing we could do. I glanced to my friends. Liam was gritting his teeth. His battered Krokorok and Cubone stood beside him. Mia helplessly stared at Kane with her Snivy on her shoulder. Misty was glaring ahead at the criminals with both her Staryu and Starmie beside her. I even saw Asher trudging back out of the tunnel with his Weavile and Honchkrow. He looked on in horror with his beaten face.

My gaze went to Zoey. She was looking straight at me. Her eyes were filled with the same helplessness as everyone else.

"Are you ready to witness the birth of a new Kanto, my young friends?" Kane raised his fist in the air to show of the modified Mega Ring.

His yellow eyes were crazed as was his smile. He had the strongest Pokemon at his disposal and he was already drunk on his power.

He clicked a button on the Mega Ring and Mewtwo's eyes flickered open as one of his Mega Stones flashed on his collar. Suddenly, Mewtwo's cage exploded and pieces of metal flew over our heads. I watched them sail across the room and clatter on to the cave floor. I looked back to Mewtwo. He floating over the remnants of his cage. His eyes were glowing blue.

Mewtwo was cloaked in some kind of energy. We couldn't see him in the sphere of power he was enveloped in. I heard a large booming sound and I fell to the ground. The others fell shortly after me. I scrambled to my feet. And stared in shock at Mewtwo. He had changed. His tail was now apart of his head and his fingers and toes were the color of his tail. I will never forget those haunting red eyes. He was shorter now as well and he floated in the air as if he couldn't touch the ground.

"I present to you, Mewtwo Y!" Kane's voice echoed throughout the cave. "How about we start were this monster was born, Cinnabar Island!"

Kane pushed a button on the Mega Ring and both Mewtwo and him were teleported away in an instant.

Krista, Turner, and the other followers of Kane were about at shocked as us.

All the computers sparked and shut down. Red numbers flashed on the screens quickly after. Destruction of cave in sixty seconds. My eyes widened and I let out a gasp.

"This wasn't supposed to happen!" Turner cried out in panic.

"Kane! We trusted to you!" Krista shrieked.

I immediately grabbed ahold of Zoey's hand and made a beeline for the cave entrance. Liam darted ahead of us with Mia by his side after the returned their Pokemon to their Pokeballs. Asher returned his as well as Misty. We were all running for the entrance with the thieves behind us.

We pounded our feet against the sand of the shore and went towards the water. A loud crashing sound roared across the sea. The cave was blowing up on the inside. Section by section. Boulders tumbled in front of the entrance, sealing the thieves in side. Finally, one grand explosion sent us all to the ground. My ears were ringing and my vision was blurry.

I managed to get to my feet. I helped Zoey up and stared at the collapsed cave. They were dead. All of them. No one could have survived that.

"What now?" Liam asked weakly as we gathered around.

"We go to war with that bastard." Asher said angrily.

Cinnabar barely seem like an island anymore when we arrived on its shore. It seemed like one big fire to me. House were burning to the ground. Wreckage everywhere. People were fleeing in lifeboats and on the backs of Water-Type Pokemon.

"Misty, Liam, Mia, get everyone you can off this island and help with the evacuation!" Asher yelled over the fire and screams of terrified people.

Asher had an unmistakable look of ferocity in his eyes. He felt as though this was his fault and he should've stopped them sooner. He pulled Misty into one last hug and kissed her softly on the top of her hair.

"Take Greninja to help with the fires when you're getting people out." I handed Greninja's Pokeball to Liam.

"Thanks, man." He smiled with his tired, dirty face.

I smiled back. "Get theses people out of here."

Our friends split off from us and ran to the evacuating people.

"You two are coming with me." Asher jerked his thumb towards himself. "We're gonna stop Kane anyway we can. I should have put a bullet in his head when I had the chance."

We ran towards the burning buildings and to the other side of Cinnabar Island. I looked above the houses and building and saw Mewtwo, still in his Y form. He was blasting away at buildings relentlessly with attacks. Below him was Kane.

Asher unclipped a Pokeball from his belt and threw it in the air. It snapped open and revealed his red ringed Umbreon. Zoey released a Pokemon as well, her Shinx who rode proudly on her shoulder. I grabbed Nuz's Pokeball off my belt and tossed it in the air. He appeared in a flash of light and started to run with us towards Kane.

"Crimson, Shadow Ball!" Asher ordered.

"Nuz, Razor Leaf!" I said to him.

"Shinx, Thunder!"

All of the attacks went flying towards Kane. Suddenly, Mewtwo flew down in front of the attacks and put up a shield of psychic energy. The attacks bounced off uselessly. Kane stepped out in front of Mewtwo. He pressed a few buttons on the Mega Ring.

"Continue the destruction of Cinnabar. I will handle these fools." He said to Mewtwo.

Mewtwo flew over the flaming building and disappeared into the smoke.

"Go after Mewtwo. Get that damn collar off of him." Asher said as he stared down Kane.

"Asher-" I started to say.

"Just do it! We all have our parts to play and mine is with Kane. I know you can do this. Now go before it's too late!"

I looked to Zoey and she gave me a reassuring nod. We ran past Kane and started our search for Mewtwo.

-Asher-

"Crimson, Iron Tail."

My Umbreon flipped in the air and brought down his sharp, metal tail onto Kane's Haxorous who blocked it with his tusk. Crimson backflipped and land on the ground gracefully. Both of them were evenly matched.

"There is no use in fighting, Asher. I will become Kanto's ruler! Actually, I will rule over the whole world! No one can impose me, no one can stop me!" Kane exclaimed.

"You're right. No one person can stop you. But what about more than one person. There are people like us who will stand up for what is right. People who believe in good. People who will act in the name of justice even though they might not make it out alive. Even though danger is all around them. We are only six, a small fraction of those people. But we can still stop you."

"Come and try it! Haxorous, Dragon Claw!"

Haxorous charged at Crimson with his claws raised and glowing a bright blue color. He slashed Crimson across the chest. Crimson backed away and grunted in pain.

"Crimson, Payback!"

-Liam-

"Put out the fires there, Greninja!" I said.

Greninja pumped a stream of water out his mouth and doused the flames near the door of the house. I rushed in and noticed a small girl huddled in a corner.

"I'm here to help." I said to her as I scooped her up.

"Do you know where my daddy is?" She asked.

"I think he is waiting for you by the boats." I carried her out of the house and ran to the lifeboats.

"There you are!" A man ran towards me and picked the girl up out of my arms. "Thank you so much!"

"No problem. Now get on one of the boats and get out of here!"

I turned to Sandy and Donphan. "Anybody else left in this neighborhood?"

They both shook their heads. I whirled around and saw Mia and Misty running towards me.

"We have one block of houses left to check." Mia announced.

"I'll start leading the people to Fuchsia with Gyrados." Misty said.

"Okay, let's do this!" I shouted.

Greninja, Donphan, and Sandy ran along side me as I sprinted to the nearest unchecked house.

"Liam!" Mia screamed.

"What?" I turned around.

Sandy pointed to smoke covered sky. I looked up and saw Mewtwo right above me. He pointed his hand toward the house I was about to enter. He sent a sphere of blue energy towards the house. The house blew up and I was sent flying back. I landed hard on my head. I fought to keep my eyes open but they got heavier and heavier until everything was black.

-Griffin-

"Liam!" I called to him down the row of burning buildings.

"We have to get Mewtwo away from him!" Zoey said. "Shinx, Thunder! Jolteon, Charge Beam!"

Both the Electric-Types sent their attacks at Mewtwo. Mewtwo was caught off guard and was struck head on by the attacks.

He raised his hands and sent a series of Aura Spheres at us. That's what I thought they were at least. Zoey and I jumped out of the way and hid behind a pile of wood from a fallen house. Our Pokemon were close behind us. I unclipped Kit and Umbreon's Pokeballs and released them.

I peeked out from the pile of wood to see Greninja dodging Mewtwo's attacks. We had to help him.

"Umbreon, Dark Pulse!"

"Kit, Snarl!"

The Dark-Type moves rocketed towards Mewtwo. Mewtwo shot back an attack that looked like Psybeam. The attacks hit each other and exploded, leaving a cloud of dust. Between the dust and the smoke, I couldn't see. I coughed and waved the smoke out of my face. Suddenly, Mewtwo emerged from from the cloud of smoke. He changed forms though. He was now in his X form. His tail was shorter and it stuck up in the air. He grew much taller and he now stood on the ground. His feet and legs were wider.

He charged at Kit punted her against a building. Umbreon immediately lunged at Mewtwo. Mewtwo punched Umbreon and sent him to the ground.

"Greninja, Acrobatics!" I ordered as I ran to my injured Pokemon.

Greninja started to fight Mewtwo om his own as I checked on my Pokemon. They were hurt but they insisted on fighting.

Greninja did a back flip and landed at my side. He was pretty beat up as well.

"Griffin, keep Mewtwo busy while we charged up our attacks. Enough electricity should overload that collar." Zoey said.

"You got it. Nuz, Razor Leaf! Greninja, Hydro Pump! Umbreon, Shadow Ball! Kit, Night Daze!" I threw Hex's Pokeball in the air. "Hex, Night Slash!"

Kit and Hex charged towards Mewtwo. He kicked them both away. All of my other Pokemon fired there attacks. Mewtwo dodged the all deftly.

"Keep going!" I shouted.

Eventually, Mewtwo couldn't dodge them all and he's started to be hit by them. Hex and Kit recovered and ran towards him with fierce determination. Hex slashed Mewtwo with her horn while Kit rammed into him with Night Daze. Mewtwo fell on the ground. He pushed himself up and he raised his hands in the air.

His eyes were glowing pink. My Pokemon were highlighted with the same color of pink. They collapsed to the ground and moaned in agony. Mewtwo was doing something to their minds! I ran to my Pokemon.

"Come on, guys! Fight through it!" I fell to my knees and shook Kit and Nuz. "Are you done with your attack yet, Zoey?"

"Fire now!" Zoey shouted to her Pokemon.

Zebstrika, Jolteon, and Shinx all launched enormous bolts of electricity at Mewtwo's collar. Mewtwo clutched his neck as it was being struck with electricity. The collar sparked and all the buttons and lights were going off on it. Finally, the collar snapped off. Mewtwo returned to his normal form and he fell to the ground along with the collar.

-Asher-

"Sucker Punch!" I called to Crimson.

Crimson darted in front of Haxorous nailed him in the gut. Both the of the Pokemon were exhausted but Crimson still had some strength left in him. Haxorous wheezed and toppled over.

Kane returned his Haxorous. "No matter. I will just use you as an example for the people who question my power!"

Kane pushed a few buttons and looked up to me with a maniacal smile. He wait a for few moments.

"What? Why isn't it working?" Kane ripped the Mega Ring off his wrist.

"What did I tell you?" I smiled triumphantly. "There will always people who will vanquish evil."

"Shut up!" Kane roared. "There's probably just something wrong with the signal!"

He pushed a few more buttons and clicked the Mega Ring button. Nothing.

"This is just sad." I said.

Crimson nodded in agreement.

"I'll kill you!" Kane screeched.

He drew a knife from his belt and ran at me. This once confident mastermind had become a psychopath grasping at straws. He wanted power. He wanted to change things to way he thought they should be. All he did was burn a city and kill people. Even the ones that followed him.

He slashed at me with the knife. I side stepped and kneed him in the gut. He dropped the knife and fell to the ground.

He quickly scrambled to his feet and threw a punch which I easily dodged.

"This is for locking me up." I punched him in the face.

"This is for torturing me." I round house kicked him in the temple and he collapsed to the ground.

"This is for trying to kill me on multiple occasions." I punted him in the ribs a few times.

"This is for endangering my brother and his friends." I grabbed him by the collar and delivered a right hook.

"And this is for killing innocent people to achieve you psychotic dream!" I lost it then.

I banged his head against the ground, I kicked him, I punched him, I choked him, but the weight of the lives that died here today were still there inside of me. He wanted to change the world. I get that. The world is a pretty bad place but he just made it worse.

"Look what you've done!" I shouted as I grabbed him by the hair and pointed his had at the burning buildings. "You did this! Are you happy?"

"I-it's b-b-beautiful." He gave me a bloody smile.

Suddenly, he was loosened from my grip and he was floating in the air a few feet above me. He gargled and clutched his throat. A few yards away from me was Mewtwo. He had one hand raised at Kane. His once fierce eyes were now fill with fear. Mewtwo raised his other hand and a large piece of flaming wood hovered into sight.

"This is for using me to destroy and kill!" Mewtwo spoke with his mind.

The piece of wood immediately impaled Kane. The sharp wood shot into the ground. Kane was killed almost instantly.

I walked over to Mewtwo and poniyed to a half destroyed building. Untouched by the flames. "Do you recognize that building, old friend?"

"It's where we first met. The place I was born." He gave me a sad smile.

I gasped at the sight of Kane's dead body. Zoey shared my reaction. Mewtwo looked to us.

"Thank you." He said. "I'm sorry you had to go through such hardships for my sake. I will forever be in-debt to all of you for your actions on this day. Thank you, saviors of Kanto."

Mewtwo teleported away. Asher approached us with a small smile.

"We made it." He put a hand on my shoulder.

"Guys! We gotta get out of here!" Mia sprinted towards us. "Liam and Misty already left! Let's go!"

"Ha! Liam with Misty!" I pointed at Asher.

"Shut up." We followed Mia to the last lifeboat.

Zoey rested her head on my shoulder as I brushed the hair out of her face. I watched the burning island of Cinnabar drift away. Eventually, the clouds of smoke parted and the sun came into view. We survived. We won the war against Kane.

Author's note: OH MY GOD! 3,215 words! That is the longest chapter I have ever written mostly because I combined two chapters! Did you guys like it? I had fun typing it. Lots of different point of views! We have one last chapter and Edge of War book 1 will be concluded. A second will come out but I haven't started working on it. I have the plot and all of that but I'll be taking a break from this series for a wee while. That's right I just used "wee". Thank you for all your guys support and comments and votes and messages.
