Chapter 23

Closing in

"Get down!" Asher hissed as he pulled me behind a building.

"What is it?" I asked.

We had just arrived in Fuchsia City and now Asher was acting paranoid. The thieves do have Mewtwo after all. I couldn't get last night out of my mind. Zoey. The kiss. Everything.

"Don't try and hide Asher Black! I see you!" A familiar voice shouted.

Asher sighed walked into the clear. We followed him. Standing right before us was none other than Misty Waterflower, Gym Leader of Vermillion City.

Misty marched right up to Asher and decked him right in the face. He straightened himself and blinked a few times.

"Ow." He said.

"You run off without telling me! Without telling your family! I thought you said that you wanted more for us!" She screeched.

Liam and I couldn't help but snicker. Even Zoey and Mia cracked a few grins.

"Now is not the time to talk about that!" Asher said. "I couldn't risk something happening to you. I wanted to tell you."

Misty threw her arms around him. "I'm just glad your safe."

"About that." Asher pulled away.

"What is it?"

"We're ending this today. And we may need your help getting to the Seafoam Islands."

Misty smiled and spun a Pokeball on her finger. "I'm your girl."

We ditched our bags at a PC room. Only a few minutes later, we were riding on the back of Misty's Gyrados.

Misty had to take us the long, dangerous way to the Seafoam Islands so we would not be seen. I had sick feeling in my stomach. And it wasn't sea sickness. It was the sick feeling you get when you know something is going to go wrong. Very wrong.

What if we couldn't stop the thieves? What if we are too late?

My thoughts were interrupted by Gyrados making a sudden turn. I nearly fell of the dang thing. Zoey helped me back up and wrapped her arms around my stomach.

"Just incase." She said.

"If you insist." I smiled.

"Let's get off here." Asher pointed to a tiny lone island covered with rocks. The perfect cover.

We got off at the island and his behind the rocks. Asher surveyed the cave.

"Hey, why isn't it all cold and icy?" Liam asked.

"Articuno's body temperature made it that cold. Now that he is gone, the cave has thawed out." Misty explained.

"There are two men guarding the entrance." Asher swooped back to his hiding spot.

"How do we take of them?" Mia questioned.

All of them started exchanging ideas. I ignored them and withdrew into my mind to think. Could we lead them off? Should we just knock them out and run in guns blazing?

"Is there an exit to the cave?" I asked.

"I believe so." Asher answered.

"I know what to do!" I exclaimed.

"What?" They all asked at once.

"Kit can her use her illusion ability to distract them by leading them around to the exit where we will be waiting for them. After that, we'll just sneak through the exit and get them from behind!"

"Sounds good." Asher shrugged.

I released Kit from her Pokeball and told her the plan. She nodded and gave me a mischievous grin. She flashed a purple color and in an instant she was now a Shiny Milotic. She slithered down into the water and swam by the guards.

"Lookie here, Tim." One of the guards tapped the other and pointed to Kit.

"So what, Will? It's a Milotic." The other scowled.

"It's a Shiny Milotic! You, idiot! We can make some major cash from it if we catch it. It's getting away!"

Will and Tim started running around to the other side of the cave. We immediately started hopping from miniature island to miniature island. We arrived at the back entrance and no one was guarding it. We waited for a minute or so. I wiped my palms on my cargo pants. I was sweating like crazy.

Kit and all her Shiny Milotic glory, darted around the corner and transformed back into a Zorua on shore. Only seconds later, the two guards came around the corner.

Their eyes widened. Asher lunged at one of them and punched him. Immediately knocking him out. Liam and I tackled the other and just beat on him until he seem unconscious.

"You guys need to work out more." Asher said.

I ignored my brother and peeked into the cave. It was lit by a lantern every few yards or so.

"Let me lead." Asher pushed me aside and descended down the corridor.

I returned Kit and quickly followed him. All six of us snuck down the corridor. It was just one straight line. We finally arrived at the main part of the cave.

We were above the criminals base on an overlook. A ladder was below us but we kept to the corridor to remain hidden. I looked down and saw dozen of people bustling about. Computers were displaying information and charts. Next to them was cage, Mewtwo in it but he didn't seem conscious. A black metallic collar was around his neck with his two Mega Stones in them. A man with long black hair, clutching his bandaged side, stared coldly at Mewtwo with his piercing yellow eyes. A Salamence was by his side.

"That's Kane." Asher whispered.

"I figured." I turned towards my group of friends. "What's the plan?"

"We definitely can't take all of them." Zoey frowned at the floor.

"Maybe we don't have to take all of them!" Liam exclaimed.

Mia shushed him.

"Sorry, maybe we don't have to take all of them."

"What are you saying, kid?" Misty asked.

"Since they hate Asher and Griffin more out of all of us, maybe they can lead them away."

"What happens if one of us gets caught?" I cocked an eyebrow to Liam.

"I won't get caught." Asher said confidently then looked to me. "Make me proud, brother."

Asher dropped down from the overlook. A few of the thugs looked his way. My brother immediately punch a nearby man and took his gun from his belt. He fired away at the computers and machines while roaring like a maniac. He sprinted across the cave shooting at random things. Multiple thugs chased after him. Asher disappeared into a tunnel branching off from the main cave.

"All of you, after him!" Kane shouted. "Krista, Turner, both of you stay."

Kane turned towards the people running the machines. "Keep working."

Kane strolled over to what looked to be Mr. Fuji's Mega Ring. The Ring was on a pedestal. It was hardly a Mega Ring anymore. All sorts of modification were made to it. There were buttons and all sorts of gadgets on it.

"Is it done?" He asked one of the workers.

"I just need to strengthen the signal from the ring to Mewtwo's collar." She answered.

"Make it fast! The new Kanto will be born today."

"What now?" Mia asked us.

"We fight them and we end this now." I slammed my fist on the cave floor. "I'll take Kane."

"I'll help you." Zoey announced.

"Okay. Let's show them they screwed with the wrong people."

I jumped off the overlook and landed on one knee. I slowly moved my gaze upward from the ground. All of them had a look of shock but they quickly replaced it. One by one, my friends dropped down from the overlook.

I unclipped Hex's Pokeball and threw it in the air. It snapped open and the Disaster Pokemon came bounding out.

"Ice Beam!" I pointed to Kane and his Salamence.

Hex shot a stream of ice at the Salamence, who flew in the air to swerve out of the way.

"Ah. You must be, Griffin Black. The boy I have heard so much about."

"Damn right, I am! Hex, Swords Dance!"

Kane continued to speak. "Would you like to know why I went to all the trouble for this?"

"You just want to see everything burn!" I spat.

"You're right. But from those ashes, I will create things my way. Make things the way I want them to be. I will then rule over all! I might even do the same to other reasons. No one will stand in my way. Except for some pesky Gym Leaders and children but I will just eliminate them like I plan to do to you."

"Enough talk! Hex, Night Slash!"

Hex lunged at Salamence with her dark glowing horn. Salamence batted her away with her wing like she was just a fly.

Hex slid across the rocky floor but got up.

"Zebstrika, Wild Charge!"

Zebstrika came galloping towards Salamence with electricity racing through his body. Zebstrika rammed his body into the Dragon/Flying-Type. Salamence grunted in pain.

"Sorry," Zoey ran to me,"I tried destroying the machines but they have a Mr. Mime using Barrier. I can't get to them."

She give me a reassuring smile. Determination raced through my body. I felt like I could do anything.

"Salamence, Heatwave!"

The monstrous Pokemon opened his jaws and a wave of flames went flying towards Zebstrika. Zebstrika tried dodging the fire but the flames caught his hind legs. He fell to the ground and struggled to get up.

"Hex, Psycho Cut!" I ordered.

Salamence was strong but he wasn't as fast as Zebstrika and Hex. Salamence was too big to dodge at a moment notices. If Hex and Zebstrika attacked as the other was being hit, we might stand a chance.

Hex slashed Salamence's neck with her pink flashing horn. He roared in agony.

"Dragon Pulse." Kane growled.

A purple beam of powerful energy shot out of Salamence's mouth and blasted at Hex. Clouds of dust kicked up as my Absol was hit from the attack. I waved the dust away and saw that Hex was laying in a crater.

"How much time until completion?" Kane asked his workers.

"Approximately, ten or fifteen minutes." One of the workers answered as he was typing away at a keyboard.

I looked to my friends battling it out with Turner and Krista. We had to win this war. Kanto couldn't die.

Author's note: I'm sorry to end it here but I got lazy. Only about two chapters left, sadly. After I have completed this book, I will move onto Protectors Book II! I will be also working on another project, that I will not reveal quiet yet. I have never updated two books side by side before, so we will have to see where that goes.
