Chapter 2: A New Mission

Chapter 2

A New Mission

-Griffin-

"Greninja, Water Shuriken!" I called to my Pokemon.

Greninja flung the Water Shurikens at a pair of Magmar trying to set fire to a grocery store. The Magmar were smacked to the ground by the attack.

"Good job, bud! Now put the fires out." I said.

Greninja dowsed the fires with Hydro Pump quickly.

I looked around and saw that most of the Pokemon were defeated or had run off.

"Thanks for your help." I returned Greninja.

I walked down the destroyed streets thinking about how much this was like Cinnabar. I also thought about why the Pokemon would do this. Nothing seemed physically wrong with them. They were all regular Pokemon. All of them were wild and wild Pokemon usually don't wander into cities and destroy everything. Was someone behind this?

I turned a corner and started heading for Pokemon Center. My Pokemon were extremely worn out and Hex and Shiftry ended up fainting near the end of this catastrophe.

A loud, blood curdling shriek shattered my thoughts. I looked to the skies and saw a shadow dart across the sky at high speeds. It went so fast that it almost knocked me to the ground. The shadow flew clear over Cerulean City and was out of sight in seconds.

"What was that?" I asked aloud.

I stared in the direction of where the shadow flew off to. "I was not ready for today."

I continued down the street to the Pokemon Center with a pleather of things on my mind. I arrived at the Pokemon Center and the inside was more chaotic than Zubat breeding season.

Both people and Pokemon were being rushed on stretchers. The waiting room was overflown with Trainers and their Pokemon needing to be attended to.

I sighed when I noticed the lack of seating options. And the walls were covered with people as well.

"I guess I'll have to wait," I said to no one.

I walked back outside and found a vending machine. I needed a soda.

I took out a dollar from my wallet an slipped it into the machine. The machine hummed and my dollar slid right out. I flatten the dollar and put it back in only to have it slide back out.

I kicked the machine and tried to eliminate every crinkle on the dollar. When I was satisfied, I put the buck back in.

"Please, please, please!" I murmured.

And to my disappointment, the dollar slid back out.

"Do you need help with that?" A voice said.

I turned around and saw a boy my age. He was shorter than me and he hid his hands in his jacket pockets. He had forest green eyes and had wavy brown hair. His eyes went immediately to the ground when I met his.

"Yeah but I'm pretty sure this thing has made up its mind not to its job!" I jerked my thumb to the vending machine.

"M-my friend taught me a thing or two about these," he said in a low voice. "Which kind of pop do you want?"

"A Thunder Shock," I replied.

The boy walked over to the machine and examined it. He looked at the can of soda I so desperately wanted. He tapped on the glass and moved to the side of the vending machine. He started elbowing it in different places.

"You don't need to break your arm over it!" I said.

"It's fine," he continued elbowing it.

A rattling sound came from within the machine. The can of Thunder Shock came rolling out into view. I snatched it up.

I turned to the boy. "Thanks, man."

A can of lemonade came barreling out into the slot. The boy picked it up. "No problem."

"Mind if I drink with you?"

"N-not at all." The boy said.

I could tell he was really shy. I took a sip of my delicious beverage. "What's your name."

"Jacob. Jacob Evans." He took a huge gulp of his lemonade. "What happened here?"

"Nice to meet you. Name's Griffin Black and I don't really know what happened. Pokemon just started rampaging through the city."

Jacob had instantly spit out his lemonade and coughed.

"Calm down, Jacob. It's not a big deal." I smirked.

"But I've been looking all over for you!" He exclaimed.

"Uh, why?" I asked slowly.

"Because Asher wanted me to relay a message to you."

I coughed up a little bit of my soda. "Asher?"

He was at Mt. Silver and you don't much reception there so him and I hadn't talk in a while. What was so important that he had to send a messenger?

"He just wants you to know that he is making his way back to Kanto and he will contact you immediately when he gets back. Apparently, he has urgent, secret news for you."

"And he didn't tell you?"

"Nope."

"S-so how does Asher know you?" I took a swig of my drink.

"Well, I was going about my business, collecting the Badges, when I decided that the best way to be a stronger Dark-Type trainer was to battle the best one. I ended up losing to Asher of course but he offered to train me. We trained together for quiet awhile until he went missing when he went after his friend or whatever. Then, when you took down that terrorist, we got back in touch."

"So you train Dark-Types?" I finished my soda.

"Yeah. Do you want to see my team?" He grinned.

I chucked my can at a trash can only for it to bounce off. "Sure."

Jacob unhooked the Pokeballs from his belt. He tossed them up in the air. The spheres snapped open in a brilliant light. A Pokemon I recognized as Sharpedo, splashed into a nearby fountain while a graceful purple and yellow feline known as Liepard landed on the ground. The Sharpedo's red eyes stared at me from the water. I shivered.

And then a gray furred Pokemon appeared next to a black canine like Pokemon.

"Poochyena!" Barked the gray furred Pokemon.

"Hound! Houndour!" The other Pokemon roared back.

The two instantly started chasing each other.

"Those two are pretty energetic," Jacob said while scratching the back of his head.

I smiled at the two Pokemon running after each other. "I would show you my Pokemon but they are kinda out of commission."

"Yeah, could you tell me what happened here?" Jacob motioned to the destroyed streets.

"I don't know what happened. I was at Nugget Bridge when a Gyrados came out of the water and started attacking me. After I took care of it, I realized the whole city was under attack by Pokemon. We got them to retreat but why would they attack in the first place? Nothing seemed wrong with them. And when I started going to the Pokemon Center, a huge, screeching shadow flew above me."

"Man, that's weird. I'm glad I slept in or I would've been caught up in that mess!"

"Griffin!" A familiar voice shouted.

Skyler approached me. He had a tired, worried look on his face.

"What's up?" I asked.

"I need to ask something of you." He said quickly.

"Yeah, sure. What is it?"

"I need you to go to Vermillion City. There will be someone waiting by the docks. You'll know him when you see him. Tell him everything that's happened here. Even about the the thing in the sky."

"Did you see it too?"

"Yes. I would go myself but I have way too much on my hands." He sighed.

"Of course I'll do it but why does he need to know this?"

"I can't tell you right now. But when you leave, go through Rock Tunnel and Lavender Town. It'll be safer. Who knows how many more rabid Pokemon are out there."

"If you say so." I nodded.

"Thanks, Griffin. I gotta go." Skyler ran off in the directions of his Gym.

"It was nice talking to you, Jacob," I turned to my new friend. "How about we have a battle before I leave, tomorrow?"

"S-sounds good!" Jacob smiled.

I give him a quick smile and walked back into the Pokemon Center. It was still busy and packed with people. I pulled my room key out of my pocket and went towards my room.

I whistled as I put the key in the keyhole and turned it.

"They're coming!" A voice shrieked.

I turned around and saw a boy much older than me.

"Hunters! Hunters! They're coming! They're coming for all of us!"

Trainers were gathering around him. Including me. I even saw Jacob in the back of the crowd.

"No Trainer is safe! None of you are safe!" He pointed at all of us. "The roads aren't safe! That's their hunting grounds!"

The boy collapsed in front of me and pulled on my jacket. "They have powers like you've never seen! Fire, water, lightning!"

His eyes were full of fear and paranoia. I pulled him off of me.

What he was saying wasn't making sense. I mean heard rumors about missing Trainers in Pewter City but what this guys was saying was unbelievable. Then again, my brother is best friends with Mewtwo so anything is possible.

I walked away from the crowd and went into my room. I shut the door and didn't bother turning on the lights. I collapsed on my bed and stared at the faintly visible ceiling.

What's going on? I thought. Pokemon are going crazy and Trainers are going missing. What are these Hunters? What forces are at work here? Who's behind this?
