Had to Cool Me Down

The Hellfire Club members gathered around the table, prepared to begin playing DND. All except one. Her lack of presence was noted by all members, but it was especially felt by the long-haired Dungeon Master.

The Dungeon Master simply began the game, choosing not to discuss the missing member.

"Where's Donovan?" Henderson finally piped up, asking the question everyone wanted to ask, but no one had spoken aloud. The Dungeon Master's brown eyes looked up from the DND book and met Henderson's with an annoyed glare.

"She won't be joining us this evening," the Dungeon Master answered simply, prepared to continue the game.

"Okay, but where is she? Is she sick? Did you guys break up?" Henderson continued, further annoying the Dungeon Master. Eddie sighed, placing his fists on the table with a sarcastic grin.

"Donovan is fine! She simply won't be joining us tonight," the Dungeon Master responded.

The truth of the matter was simple. Eddie's girlfriend was grounded.

"Wait, turn it up! I love when Brian sings that 'you..shook me all night long!' It makes me think of you!" The girl grinned, placing Eddie's blunt between her lips as she kicked her sandals off into the floorboard of the van. Eddie mirrored her grin, turning the volume as high as it would go.

"I can't believe this song is the one that makes you think of me!" Eddie yelled over the music, taking the blunt the woman had outstretched toward him.

"Well a lot of songs remind me of you, this one just happens to be playing!" She yelled back, still beaming from ear to ear.

The lyrics "Working double time on the seduction line..." were sang in the background as she began to admire Eddie, watching the way his lips curled around the blunt. She crawled over the console of the van and into Eddie's lap, straddling him. Eddie blew a puff of smoke, the blunt dangling between his fingers carefully. The woman's smile left her lips, and she leaned in, capturing the metal head in a kiss. Eddie returned it greedily, putting out the blunt and settling his hands on her waist.

Their kiss was broken by pounding on the driver window. Eddie sighed heavily, turning the music down to nearly a whisper. Upon rolling down his window, the couple were greeted by the girl's red-faced father. The girl quickly clambered off Eddie's lap and into the passenger seat, pulling on her sandals.

"Hello, sir. It's a beautiful night, isn't it?" Eddie asked her father, giving him a smirk. The girl's father sighed, watching his daughter slowly come out of the van and make her way around to him.

"Eddie, you're a nice guy and all, but I told you to have her home by 10 sharp. Do you know what time it is? It is half past midnight! After 12:06 passed and the two of you were nowhere in sight, I knew I had to come looking. Eddie, I'm trying to keep calm about this, because I can't stress too much what with my heart, but if you keep bringing her home past curfew, I will not allow her to see you any more."

Eddie's smirk was wiped off his face instantly. Her father couldn't force them to break up! Well, he could stop allowing her to go to Hellfire Club, and then Eddie would never see her unless he came to visit or she did—but she would be out on babysitting duty of her younger siblings, and then she would never be able to see him. But also Eddie really liked her father, he was such an easygoing guy, and he didn't want to disappoint him any more than he already had.

"It's not all Eddie's fault, dad. I should've paid better attention to the time too," the girl said, eyes peering at her father's shoes. Her father pinched the bridge of his nose.

"I'm sorry, sir. It won't happen again," Eddie responded, knowing that he definitely wanted to see her again, and it would be best to just apologize and move on.

Her father nodded once, accepting Eddie's apology.

"Alright, but she won't be joining your club tomorrow night."

Eddie gritted his teeth but gave the older man a nod nonetheless.

Henderson swallowed thickly at Eddie's obvious irritation and rolled the die, as it had been his turn when he piped up.

The game continued on, with Jeff just barely winning, and the members began to leave.

Dustin and Eddie stayed behind to clean up, silence awkwardly surrounding the two guys. Henderson thought of something to say, but he chose  not to, seeing as Eddie was already in a bad mood, and Dustin didn't want to make it any worse than he had.

Finally, the two finished packing up, and they left the room, stepping into the hallway with Eddie in the lead and Dustin following behind.

Eddie stopped in his tracks, a smirk making its way onto his lips as soon as he spotted the woman leaning against the wall.

"Eddie, why'd you stop?" Henderson fussed, unaware of the recent development. Eddie, as if just noticing Henderson's existence, stepped out of his way, before stepping closer to the woman in the hall.

"Oh hey, Donovan! We missed you tonight!" Dustin exclaimed, greeting the older woman with a grin. She flashed Dustin a smile in return before turning her attention back to Eddie.

"Thanks for the help, Henderson," Eddie said dismissively. His brown eyes were fixed upon the beauty in front of him.

"I convinced dad to let me come, but I see I missed it," the woman said, sighing softly. She was only slightly disappointed that she had missed the game, but she was glad to see Eddie.

The couple began to leave the school building, walking beside each other.

"How'd you manage to convince him?" Eddie asked, opening the passenger door of the van for his girlfriend. She climbed in, waiting as Eddie tossed the DND stuff in the back and climbed into the driver side.

"I told him that it wasn't fair that I—a grown woman of 20–could not do entirely as I pleased. He told me that he was worried about my safety, and I told him, 'Dad, Eddie and I could get in just as much trouble before 10 as we could after.' And I said, 'Besides, you know Eddie will take good care of me, and we won't do anything too troublesome.' He told me to get in the car, and he dropped me off."

Eddie grinned, placing one hand on the woman's thigh, squeezing it slightly. She simply placed her hand over his, running her other hand through her hair to push it out of her face.

"Do you still have that curfew?" He asked, quickly glancing at her before looking back to the road.

"Nope! As long as I call dad when I get to your trailer, I'm okay," she responded, grinning at him. Eddie beamed, gripping her thigh just a little tighter.
