Edan Academy was established right after the great vampire wars, a bloody battle that pulled most of the supernatural world into its politics and created a lot of wounds and rivalries.  In the end no one really knows what the war was about, nor who really won although ask any Vampire and they'll say it was there blood that did it. 
The Academy was a way for scars to be covered and tensions to ease, which it did for a while but like anything the true nature of things fades and a new order comes along. 

The modern Academy is where supernatural's send the people they no longer want to deal with, a place to keep the family secrets locked away or to just get that annoying cousin out of sight. It is a place that strives to better Supernatural's, make them more of what they should be, and in time allow them to overcome their 'faults' and rejoin supernatural society. 

The Academy offers college level classes in all things a young Supernatural should know, such as spells, magical botany and even Vampire etiquette .  And it accepts young supernatural's as young as 17, although it tends to cap it's age limit at a ripe human age of 42 to the displeasure of some people. 

All teachers at Edan were once students themselves, who either chose to come back or had nowhere else to go. 

However do not be discourage by its reputation, Edan is a place where many alliances have been made, many contracts written up and where blood has been spilt.
