CHAPTER FOUR
MOMENT OF TRUTH
"strange what desire will

AVOIDING people she didn't want to talk to had become some sort of a forte of Shivani's as of late.
School was in, and she had yet to speak to Stiles. Though she wanted to know whatever crazy stuff she said or done under the spell of the moon, she also didn't want to know. The first time someone saw her moonstruck had been all those months ago when Stiles knocked on her front door. Fortunately for her, she hadn't done anything too crazy. Stiles had refused to ever inform her of what she had done or said exactly, but he had given her a vague recap. Maybe that was why she was scared. This time felt different. She never knew what she'd done when under the spell. Was she even prepared to unravel the doings of her moonstruck self?
That was the question that had gnawed at her that entire morning.
Dressed in a pair of gym shorts and matching top, Shivani tied her hair into a ponytail. The girl had signed up for cross country. Running wasn't exactly her specialty, but upon realizing just how crazy this town could be, she figured it was worth a shot. That, and her mother used to be a huge cross country girl. She figured doing something her mother could relate to would help smooth things over considering how angry her parents had gotten. Cross country was optional for all students except the ones on the lacrosse team. Shivani hadn't realized that when she signed up, so she was forced to do it alongside Stiles. Just her luck.
Shivani begrudgingly exited the locker room as she headed in the direction of the rest of the participants. Before gaining a tail, Shivani used to adore running. The feeling of pumping one leg down after another was absolutely exhilarating, and with the tumultuous thoughts swirling in her mind, something to distract her with sounded fitting. But everything drastically changed when she became a mermaid, and things she once loved steadily began fading away.
The frazzled girl began jogging the second Coach blew into his obnoxiously loud whistle. If she was fast enough, maybe she'd be able to quite literally run away from the Stilinski boy.
Her plan to mind her business while running was beautifully spoiled when Scott grabbed ahold of her shoulder. "I think we're going to need your help." Was all the McCall boy spluttered before taking the lead. A knowing scoff fell from her lips, but she nontheless trailed behind him as he went off route. Following after him led her to the pair of twins restraining Isaac.
"Ethan, I always forget. How many bones are the in the human body?" The guy that had approached Shivani at the party spoke, holding the Lahey boy down. They had yet to notice Scott and Shivani approaching. Isaac was restrained in a chokehold.
His twin grinned back devilishly. "I don't know, let's count."
The twin, Ethan, prepared to snap Isaac's arm when Scott landed a painful punch to his jaw. "That's one." Scott chastised. His action fueled the twins with rage, resulting in them whipping out their claws and fangs, eyes glowing red.
Scott and Isaac matched their actions. The Caddel girl, raised her hand, preparing to fry their werewolf asses when a loud scream ripped through the air. It caught the attention of the five effective immediately, causing all of them to sprint in the direction of the screech. They halted next to the crowd gathering. A gory scene was to be witnessed. A boy around their age was propped up against the tree looking exactly like the guy from the pool. Head bashed in, throat slashed and strangled all the while being restrained at the neck.
Shivani immediately tore her eyes from the scene before her. Isaac swallowed thickly, staring at Scott. "It's him, isn't it?" Scott nodded.
"What? Who is he?" Shivani questioned.
"This guy disappeared yesterday after picking his dog up at the vet's office. I wasn't sure, but now. . ." Scott trailed off. The mermaid could feel a shiver run down her spine as she realized exactly what was going on.
Sheriff Stilinski suddenly appeared with a deputy in tow. "Hey, get out of the way. Get back. Get this area cordoned off before they trample every piece of evidence."
"Back up! Everyone back!" The deputy yelled, few following the orders.
"Get these kids out of here!" Noah exclaimed.
Stiles approached his dad quickly. "Dad, just come here. Look, look. Look at it. It's the same as the others, you see?"
The Sheriff nodded. "Yeah, I see that. Do me a favor. Go back to school, yeah?" Stiles frowned at the order. "Coach, can you give us a hand here?"
Coach sprung into action. "You heard the man. Nothing to see here. Probably just some homeless kid." Shivani's jaw dropped at the comment.
"Coach."
"Yeah?"
"He was a senior." Scott informed.
Coaches face fell. "Oh." He paused for a moment. "He wasn't on the team, was he?"
Shivani was even more taken aback by that part, but a wailing girl crying out for the dead boy stole her attention away. "Kyle! Oh, God, Kyle! Oh, God!" The deputy held the girl back.
Thats pretty much when Scott, Stiles, Isaac and Shivani decided to back off. Shivani made sure to throw several glances over her shoulder and at the girl. Her cries for the dead boy tugged at Shivani's heart.
When they were a distances away from the scene, Isaac began speaking. "You see the way the twins looked at him?" He queried, addressing the pair of twins. Shivani looked over at him.
"Yeah, you mean like they had no idea what happened?" Stiles agreed.
Isaac shook his head. "No, no, they knew."
"The kid was strangled with a garrote, all right? Am I the only one recognizing the lack of "werewolfitude" in these murders?" Stiles spat, annoyed that the Lahey boy was arguing him.
Isaac rolled his eyes. "Oh, you think it's a coincidence they turn up and then people start dying?"
"Well, no, but I still don't think it's them." Stiles fired back. "Scott?"
"I don't know yet." Scott said.
Stiles scoffed. "You don't know yet?"
"Well, he's got a point. Seriously, dude, human sacrifices?" Doubt was evident as the McCall boy spoke.
Stiles stared at his friend in disbelief. If it hadn't been for the circumstances, Shivani would have chuckled at the amount of hurt evident in his eyes by Scott's rejection. "Scott, your eyes turn into yellow glow sticks, okay? Hair literally grows from your cheeks and then will immediately disappear, and if I were to stab you right now, it would just magically heal, but you're telling me that you're having trouble grasping human sacrifices?"
"That's a good point too."
"I think Stiles might be onto something." Shivani began. "I mean, I saw that body at the pool, and this one. What are the chances we're dealing with a pair of evil twins going around killing people by bashing their heads in, strangling them and then slashing their throats? I'd think whoever is doing this hit them over the head to subdue them. A werewolf wouldn't need to subdue anyone, nor restrain them. Especially not if there two of them." Shivani said, putting her five cents in.
"I don't care. They killed that kid, they killed the girl that saved me. I'm gonna kill them too."

When Isaac had stormed off after his horribly creepy promise to kill the twins wolves, Shivani had been the one to chase after him. Why? She had no idea. But when Stiles and Scott neglected to do so, she figured someone had to talk the Lahey boy down. That, and she was more than happy to jump at every given opporunity to avoid Stiles. Fortunately for her, the boy in question was too preoccupied investigating his human sacrifices theory to track her down. At least not yet.
"Do you really think they would have done that? C'mon Isaac."
Shivani had gravely underestimated how personally involved Isaac was. He was fuming, and rightfully so. There was no denying that the twins were supernatural, but for some odd reason Shivani just couldn't grasp the concept of them running around killing people in such a fashion. The tiny voice in the back of her head interrogated her, questioning if she only believed the human sacrifice theory because Stiles was the one behind it, or if it really did make more sense. She opted for the latter one, not yet prepared to face the music that was her blossoming feelings for the Stilinski boy.
Her doubt towards the twins had been wiped away when Isaac revealed how they had framed him. One of them had beat the other one to a pulp, setting the scene. Isaac was punished with detention by none other than Mr. Harris. That's when Shivani got fed up with the werewolves. As soon as she caught Aiden lingering by himself, she marched up to him.
"Ah, to what do I—"
"I speak, you listen." Shivani immediately cut him off, in no mood for his bullshit. His charm might have worked on her at the party when she didn't know any better, but his good looks weren't getting him out of this one. "That stunt you pulled on my friend back there? Yeah, hilarious. I'll let this one slide. But one more wrong move, and I'm going to literally boil you alive. Got it?"
While Shivani threatened the alpha to back the hell off, Scott and Isaac stood a distance away. They hadn't noticed Shivani and Aiden talking until after she had served him with her threat, to which he had responded with flirting. The two werewolves tuned into their conversation, sharing looks of uncertainty. Despite everything the Caddel girl had done for them, there was still an underlying doubt that kept them from trusting her fully. And this? It only furthermore boosted said doubt.
"Now he's getting to you." Isaac hummed, arms crossed over his chest. The look on Scott's face was easy to decipher. It was clear that the interaction between the mermaid and alpha bugged him, but not for the reasons Isaac might have thought. The McCall boy happened to know that a friend of his had a certain. . . eye for the mermaid.
Scott and Isaac reeled around when a loud slap echoed through the hallway. The harsh red outline on Aiden's cheek let everyone present know that Shivani had slapped him. They watched with wide eyes as she pulled her hand away, glaring at the alpha werewolf.
"Ms. Caddel!"
Shivani took a deep breath in defeat, slowly turning around to face Mr. Harris. Slapping Aiden for the vile comment he made felt good, but the lecture her parents would give her over the detention she was about to receive certainly would not feel so good.
By the time detention rolled in, Shivani wanted to gauge her eyes out. The only thing she wanted to do was to crawl back come to her cat without talking to anyone. But detention trampled that dream carelessly, leaving her to painfully serve the time she earned by slapping one half of the wonder twins. Just freaking peachy.
It seemed Isaac was pissed off at her. Why? She had exactly zero clue. He had been in a pissy mood ever since she took Stiles' side over his. That combined with the fact that Aiden had shamelessly flirted with her as if it was something the two did all the time, it was safe to assume he was pissed off. Shivani, being her usual clueless self, had yet to catch on to the why yet. She just knew he was acting like he had a stick up his ass, and that it was really getting on her every last nerve. The final straw that broke her back was when Mr. Harris demanded the two of them clean out the janitors closet, and he had the nerve to object. Shivani never was one for confrontation, but Isaac's childish behavior prompted her to give him a piece of her mind.
Not until after Mr. Harris disappeared to check on the other student did Shivani drop the heavy box she was carrying directly on Isaac's foot. He yelped in pain, pulling his foot out from underneath the box.
"Ouch! What the hell?" Isaac exclaimed, taking a step away from the girl.
Shivani put her hands on her hips, tilting her head as she feigned confusion. "Oh I'm sorry. Does the big bad werewolf not like getting stuff dropped on his feet? My bad."
"What the hell was that for?" Isaac questioned, putting the box he was holding down.
"I could ask you the same. You've been acting like a little bitch this entire day! What is up your werewolf ass?" Isaac resisted the urge to roll his eyes at the girl as she spoke. The more time she spent around the Stilinski boy, the more she adapted his way of speaking. It was eerie almost.
"You're the one flirting with the enemy!" Isaac argued.
"Correction, I'm the one slapping the enemy." Shivani argued back.
"Please. Scott and I both heard the way he was talking to you."
"So what? You're punishing me for what a guy said to me? Hello, talk about blaming the woman." Shivani scoffed once she realised what this all was about. "Thought you were better than that, Lahey."
Isaac opened his mouth trying to think of a smart reply, but smacked his lips shut when nothing came to mind. She was right. He was acting like a little bitch for no reason at all. "You're right. I'm. . ." He trailed off at the end, averting his gaze.
"Is that an apology I'm hearing?" Shivani arched a brow, playfully grinning at the slightly taller boy.
"Would you accept one?" Isaac queried as he smiled down at her.
Before the bite Isaac had never really dreamed he'd be speaking so carelessly to someone as pretty as her. Shit, when she first started at Beacon Hills High he'd fantasize of ever being this close to someone like her and Allison. After the bite everything had changed so quickly. Too fast. He never got the time to slow down and check his surroundings. Shivani was just that. An excuse to slow down and stay present. It felt like a nice change in their otherwise hectic world.
Shivani opened her mouth to reply, but before she could the door to the cramped closet slammed shut. Isaac reeled around, hands shooting out to jiggle the door handle. The Caddel girl watched as panic dawned on the werewolf when the door refused to budge. Now, Shivani liked to believe she wasn't the type to complete loose her head in stressful situation. But watching Isaac's descend into complete and utter anxiety as he realised there was no escaping out the cramped room, well, it made her feel just as panicked.
"Uh, maybe it locked from the outside." Shivani suggested as Isaac's breaths grew shallow.
"No, there's something against it." He decided as he proceeded to slam his body up against the door. Still, it didn't budge. The Lahey boy stepped back, pulling his cardigan off as he grew hotter.
Shivani took a step closer to him, placing a comforting hand on his back. "Okay, uh, all right. Just relax. Isaac, relax." Isaac shook his head, slamming his fists against the door repeatedly. "Isaac."
Isaac continued banging on the door. "Come on. Come on." His breaths were superficial as he ran a hand through his hair, desperately trying to calm himself down.
"Isaac!" Shivani yelled louder. Suddenly he began punching the door violently, splinters of wood flying around them. The mermaid stepped away instinctively, eyes wide as she tried figuring out what the hell to do.
"Come on!" He roared, desperate to get out.
Shivani let her eyes scan the room for something, anything, that could help either one of them. She came up empty handed, forcing her to realise the only way out was to calm him down. LIsaac! Okay, Isaac. Isaac, just relax." The boy suddenly froze up. His back was turned to hers as he leaned up against the door with his arms. Shivani kept her distance, watching carefully as he panted. "Isaac?"
He slowly began turning around. Her breath hitched in her throat at the sight. His eyes glowed a shade of amber, his fangs barred. Her eyes slipped to the claws growing from his hands. Now it was her turn to panic. Kanimas and werewolves were one thing, but being trapped in a cramped space with a werewolf who's flight or fight response had been triggered took the cake. Shivani was completely and utterly terrified.
"Just chill out, Isaac. It's me. You don't have to do this." She tried masking the fear in her voice as she spoke, but when he stepped closer she automatically took one step back. He didn't lay off her, instead approaching her until her back hit the wall. The mermaid held her hands up threateningly. "Get the hell away from me or I swear I'll hurt you." She warned.
The wolfed out boy didn't care. In one swift move his hands grabbed a hold of her wrists, subduing her from using her powers on him. His claws scratched the surface of her skin, thin trickles of blood appearing. The girl clenched her eyes shut, praying for a miracle to save her. And her prayers were heard.
Light flooded into the janitors closet when someone ripped the door open. Her whimpers were heard by Scott, his hands ripping Isaac out of the closet. The Caddel girl didn't dare open her eyes until soft hands pulled her back into reality. When she finally did open them, relief washed over her. Allison searched Shivani for injuries as Scott tried to calm Isaac down. Shivani couldn't help but to throw her arms around the Argent girl, much to relieved to utter a single world. Allison was stunned at the embrace at first, but quickly hugged her back.
"Are you okay?" Allison grabbed a hold of Shivani's now bruised wrists, the cuts he had engraved into her skin evident.
Shivani nodded slowly. "I'm fine." Allison wasn't entirely convinced by it. "Is he alright? Isaac. Is Isaac fine?" Shivani quickly asked, rushing out of the closet to find said boy leaning up against a wall, sweat glistening on his forehead.
"I'm sorry, I didn't-I didn't mean to do that." The boy stuttered out when his eyes fell on her arms. She covered her arms up.
"It's okay. I'm okay." The girl reassured.
"I'm so sorry." He continued repeating.
"It's not his fault." Shivani defended to Scott and Allison, the three of them watching as Isaac crumbled with the guilt.
Scott nodded. "I know. I guess now we know they want to do more than get you angry. They want to get someone hurt." The McCall boy adressed the culprits of the stunt.
"So are we gonna do something?"
"Please tell me we have a plan." Shivani sighed.
"Yeah. I'm gonna get them angry. Really angry."

Whether or not leaving a fuming Isaac Lahey to the excecuting of the plan was a good idea or not was uncertain. Either way, the Lahey boy was now in charge of operation 'piss the twins off', and Shivani was planning on riding front row. Literally.
Allison Argent was a girl of endless amounts of talent, hardwiring a motorcycle happened to be one of them. So as she and Isaac worked on the bike, Shivani was on look out, making sure no alpha werewolf strolled up to them during the works.
"How long is this gonna take?" Isaac question. He was growing antsy waiting for Allison to get the job done. As if on cue, the engine roared to life. The Argent girl grinned up at him as she got up.
"Okay. Pull back with your left hand. Kick down to put in gear. Front brake. Throttle. Back brake for stopping." She explained, pointing to the different parts of the bike. Isaac nodded, swinging one leg over to straddle the bike. "Try not to crash."
Isaac chuckled dryly. "Yeah. Been there, done that."
"Let's roll." Shivani grinned at the two.
"Get on." Isaac instructed.
"What?"
"I said get on." He repeated.
Shivani began shaking her head. "Are you clinically insane? No way am I getting on that deathtrap. Not happening. Do you know how many bikers my mom treats at the hospital?"
Isaac held out the helmet for the girl. "You can wear the helmet. Look, now you got just as much reason to get back at the twins as I do."
"We doing this or what?" Allison impatiently asked, arms crossed over her chest.
The mermaid glanced between Isaac and the helmet. "This is crazy." Isaac chuckled in triumph as she accepted the helmet, pulling it over her head. She climbed onto the back, her arms wrapped around his torso. "Don't kill me please."
"Copy that."
Isaac revved the bike loudly before taking of towards the school building. Allison held the doors to the entrance open as the two whizzed past her. The loud rumble of the bike vibrated through Shivani's body, so much so that she couldn't help but to let her laughter flow freely. Pure adrenalin rushed through her bloodstreams as they sped through the hallways, not stopping until the owner of the bike stepped out.
"Get off my bike!" He demanded. Shivani was the first to step off, handing the alpha werewolf the helmet.
"Drive safe." She smiled, strutting past him. Isaac, like the show off he truly was, jumped off with a backflip. He landed on his feet smoothly, crossing his arms over his chest as he took up residence next to Shivani. The two proudly watched the scene unfold as students rushed into the hallway at the noise. And just as planned, so did the teacher.
"You have got to be kidding me. You realize this is gonna result in a suspension."
Isaac and Shivani bumped shoulders playfully, exchanging a proud look. Finally the point went to them. For once, they were on the winning team. And it felt damn good.
While Allison and Scott pulled away to talk, Shivani figured the show was over when Aiden got hauled to the principal's office. She ventured down to her locker, letting her fingers grace the wounds on her wrists.
"Again. I'm sorry about that." Isaac's voice caused her to turn around. He had trailed behind her all the way to her locker without her knowledge. "I really didn't mean to."
Shivani smiled at him. "I know. It's okay." She assured.
Silence hung over them like a veil as she put her books into her locker, already planning her evening of rotting in bed with Milton. When Isaac remained at her side, she curiously peered up at him.
"You wouldn't happen to have any plans today. . ?" Isaac queried. Shivani pursed her lips, her eyes searching his face for any indicator of where he was going with this.
"None that are final." She responded, leaning her shoulder against the wall. Wrapped up in the many dead bodies littered around town as well as her own moonstruckness, Shivani had never given the Lahey boy a second thought. He was cute and charming, yes, but the two never really crossed paths outside of the supernatural world.
"Would you like some?"
Shivani had yet to speak to Stiles on what the hell had happened when she was under the influence of the moon. Both of them had been too preoccupied with their seperate things to even begin to consider speaking through the entirety of the day. While Shivani and Isaac had teamed up for twin destruction, Stiles had been chasing his theory of human sacrifices. Let's just say they kept busy and leave it at that. The Caddel girl knew she needed to have a talk with Stiles. But for now, she would allow herself to put that off in order to distract herself with something non-supernatural for one evening.
"I would love some."
