24 - the marauders

"You're dreaming?" Sirius smiled innocently. "Yeah and I'm a death eater!" Peter exclaimed, he had realized the terrible mistake that he made. They all stared at him, "What?!" They all said in union. "Kidding! Uh- I transfigured myself." Sirius looked over at the blonde boy, "Not a funny joke."

"Yeah right, Pettigrew." Marlene scoffed, Selene and Lily were making eyes to each other from across the room.  "No offense, but we all know that it a lie." Alice nodded in agreement. "No, no." Selene said, shaking her head. "I have seen him do it before. He is able to transfigure himself. James taught him" Lily smiled, "Yes! I have seen it too. Potter was boasting about it."

"This is true?" Alice asked, turning to the Marauders, including James who has just woken and was sending daggers to the blonde boy.

They all nodded, "You know me! Always bragging." James said, his tone an octave higher. What a horrible liar. "Okay..." Marlene said, shooting Peter a confused look. "Have a good day!" Lily called after them, Marlene and Alice had left to go hangout with their partners.

"You covered for us- for me." Remus exclaimed, giving the two girls a look of pure admiration. "Of course we did." Lily smiled kindly, stepping forward to take the sandy-haired boy's hand in her's. "We figured it out a few years ago, I think it was." Selene said, "We just never said anything about it, we figured you would come to us at some point."

"I would've, I promise." Remus replied, "Thank you for keeping my secret, it means everything."

"Of course, Remmy!" Selene said, smiling. "We love you so much. And I don't think of you differently. You are still and will always be the book loving chocolate enthusiast we all love. There is so much prejudice on lycanthropy, don't ever ever let it make you feel any less than you are."

Remus' eye's welled up slightly with tears, at the girls words. "I appreciate it." Is all he was able to get out. "Sorry," Selene said sheepishly, "You have probably heard that whole speech a million times."

"We tell him it fifty million times a day!" Sirius sing songed. "It means a lot coming from you." Remus smiled gratefully. "Now, wormtail. You really need to think before you transform." James said, giving him a pitying look. "And before you say you're a death eater." Selene said. "Yeah you cannot say that these days." Lily added.

"Now James, I am offended you didn't tell me you are a literal stag." Selene shook her head dramatically. "Gotta keep Moony's secret!"

Selene and Lily smiled before walking up the steps back up to the girls dormitories, not without hearing Sirius' voice, "What possessed you to turn into Wormtail for that?"

Selene was currently in the transfiguration classroom with Professor McGonagall (Minnie!) talking about what her plans for after Hogwarts was. Selene had always wanted to be a healer, with Lily. But these days she had been thinking about something, with the looming war over their heads. She had an idea. But nobody could know. "So, Miss Ray," McGonagall started, "What are your plans for after your school

"I am going to become a healer." She said, smiling at the memory of her and Lily deciding it at the young age of thirteen.

"To become a Healer, you have to have excellent grades. As I told you last year, you will need at least five N.E.W.T.s, with marks of either 'Outstanding' or 'Exceeds Expectations' at Potions, Transfiguration, Herbology, Charms, and Defence Against the Dark Arts." McGonagall responded.

"Thank you, Professor McGonagall," Selene said, she started to get up but then froze. "Um, professor?"

"Yes, Miss Ray?" McGonagall responded, raising a brow and setting down her papers. "I think I er figured something out the other day, I had been noticing it for a while," Selene said, looking down at her docs shyly. "Would you care to elaborate further on this?" McGonagall asked, pushing her glasses further up the bridge of her nose. "So I have been hearing thoughts?" She said almost questionably, "I mean sometimes they just flow into my mind, and other times if I focus hard enough I can see into their minds."

McGonagall's face softened in understanding, "Okay, can you try to see into my mind?" Selene nodded and readjusted in her seat to focus on the witch sat in front of her. The thoughts weren't coming to her, maybe she was wrong. Maybe she was just going utterly and completely mad. "It's not working." She huffed disappointedly.

"I wouldn't expect it to," McGonagall said simply, she leaned forward a bit. "I believe that you are a legilimens, a natural one who does not need a wand. Very rare." McGonagall beamed. "That is what I was guessing." She replied. "It was very wise," McGonagall pointed out, "not many witches your age would be able to figure it out, especially this quick, there are normally many tests that come along with finding this gift."

"Well thank you so much for helping me know for sure." Selene smiled.

"I love daisy chains." Daisy gushed, she and Selene were currently sat under the birch trees by the Black Lake. "Makes sense, by your name." Selene smiled softly. "I love anything flowers, but I mean daisies will always be my favorite." Daisy grinned brightly setting the chain of daisies on the grass, "What about you, your favorite?"

Selene thought for a second, "I'm not sure, probably Lilies." Her favorite was Lilies because well, her best friend was named after the flower. "I love those too!" Daisy said, "My boy gave me those for Valentine one year."

"Who are they?" Selene asked as she picked the grass. "Regulus Black." Daisy smiled at the mention of the boy.

"Reggie?" Selene gasped her eyes widened. She hadn't talked to the boy much, she did not have the time. "Shh!" Daisy whispered, "we are secret."

"Why?" Selene said, "You are both pureblood."

"Yes, I am aware," Daisy said, picking up the daisy chain and placing it on Selene's head. "My family are blood-traitors."

"I always thought that he would be a blood supremacist. Seeing as he is part of the house of Black and a Slytherin." Daisy said, "But then we got paired together in Potions, he was cold at first but then I got him to open up."

"He was the same with me." Selene cooed, "I haven't talked with him for a while, it's hard being in a different house and me being a muggle-born."

The dark-haired girl nodded, "That is mainly how I knew about you. He talks about you." Selene's eyes softened, she truly needed to talk to him soon.

The red lights were blinding in the Gryffindor Common room, the music blaring. It was no other than James Potter's birthday. Normal birthday parties wouldn't last the night, ( but, hey, this is James Potter we are talking about, ) So it was currently a quarter to one and the party was still very much alive. All the Marauder boy's parties lasted all night - or at least until McGonagall told them all to go to bed. ( The lady acts as if she wasn't invited to join the festivities! )

Selene was currently leaned against the wall watching the groups of bodies violently dancing in the middle of the room. She had a bright smile on her face - and a drink in her hand, ( courtesy of the Prewett twins. )

Sirius was screaming loudly to the music, jumping up and down with Remus. James who would have normally been with the pair was busy watching Selene, he had always thought that red was her color before but now it was obvious that she owned the color. Her hair was messily in a ponytail, she was wearing a cowl neck black dress. With smoky eyeshadow and fierce eye liner.

For the occasion Selene and Marlene thought it was the perfect time to do something they has been wanting to do for years.

Highlights.

Not just regular ones, colored ones.

Selene's being bright purple. Marlene's being hot pink. Power moves.

"You look good," a voice said from beside her, "Thank you, you look good yourself." Selene responded with a breathy voice. "Why aren't you dancing?" she asked, looking at the side of his face. "Because you look good," James responded smirking, "That's no excuse," Selene said, though her cheeks said a different story. "I think it is." James said, "We haven't talked yet."

She made a "hmm," sound, and pushed herself of the wall and took his hand to drag the boy into the crowd of people dancing. ( not everyday he turns seventeen, for merlins sake! )

"Dance with your friends!" Selene yelled over the music, they were in the middle of the dancing teens, "What about you?"

"I'll be watching!" Selene started, "But this is so not my scene!"

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" She yelled to James on her way out of the crowd. James smiled and watched her walk away, and then went over to enjoy his day with his friends.

The party finally ended at three a.m. It was now just the Marauders, minus Peter who passed out at ten,  with addition of, Selene, Lily, Marlene, and Alice.

"Well Prongs, I would say that was a good party," Sirius said, with a stupid smirk on his face, "It was, it really was," James responded. "How does it feel to be able to do magic now?" Remus asked thoughtfully, "I haven't done any today," James responded. "Yeah, he has been too busy staring at our Selene over here." Sirius smirked.

"Oh shut it, Black." Selene scoffed, "He has not."

"Oh he has," Marlene butted in, "Not your fault though, Sel, you look good."

"Oh!" Marlene gasped, "We have made the James Potter blush!" James' face was a brilliant shade of cherry red, they all laughed.

"Oh don't be embarrassed!" Lily gasped, "You were definitely not the only person looking at someone!"

"James," Selene whispered, "I need to give you your gift."
