SELENE RAY ADORED SCHOOL; she loved the smell of the textbooks, sneaking into the library after hours to read. Going to class was even fun most of the time. The brunette was at the top of the class, well, almost top. Lily Evans, her best friend with fiery red hair and the brightest of green eyes, was at the top of every class and everything she did. She was every teacher's favorite student.
Selene was immensely happy for Lily. No matter how much she wanted to be first, she would always support Lily. She was truly comfortable cheering on the sidelines of her life.
Selene and Lily had been best friends their entire lives. They were next door neighbors back home, they always joked this is what made them so similar. The pair were practically joined at the hip. It was rare to spot one girl without the other.
They shared everything with each other. A dorm room, a neighborhood, and a friend group. Selene adored her other best friends: Marlene Mckinnon and Alice Fortescue.
Marlene Mckinnon, a girl with cascading long blonde hair, you could catch her with a smirk on her face most of the time. Marlene was Selene's second closest friend. They always were cracking jokes with each other.
Alice Fortescue, with brown mousy short hair and glasses. Alice had the purest of souls, she was kind and soft.
There was only one difference between the Selene and Lily, that difference was James Potter. The first day when he set his eyes upon Lily, he was smitten. He practically worshipped the ground she walked on. Asking the girl out at every turn.
The student and staff were very aware of James' infatuation with Lily.
Expect Selene was painfully aware. Seeming to be there every time James would obnoxiously ask out Lily. She had always thought it odd how committed James was to Lily, how his eyes would always meet the green-eyed girl even if Lily never met his hazel ones. Whenever the Potter boy would ask out her best friend Selene would roll her eyes and feel a burning in her stomach. The brunette would always felt confused on why it bothered her so much but never seemed to give it a second thought.
The two eleven year old girls were walking the corridors of the Hogwarts Express dragging their trunks behind them. They were on their way to Hogwarts searching for an empty compartment to sit in. Both were nervous about what was to come. It would be their first time ever in a couple of hours stepping foot into the school. They had been so excited when the letters had arrived saying they had been excepted.
Luckily, both had read up on everything to know about the magic school. They knew what house they wanted, and what classes they thought best. Being as prepared as they could.
"Lils," Selene Ray said tiredly, they had been walking down the halls trying to find the best place to sit for a while, "I think we might just have to settle for sitting with people, there are no empty seats left."
"I know." Lily Evans sighed setting down her trunk for a moment.
They decided that they would walk to the end compartment and sit with whoever was there. The corridors were deserted, the only sound was the muffles of chatter from inside the compartments.
Selene and Lily stopped outside of the first one, Selene sent Lily a confirming glance and the red head nodded her to go inside. Selene slid the door open to reveal four boys talking animatedly.
"Er, may we sit here? Everywhere else is full." Selene asked sheepishly.
The four boys turned to look at them. The boy with unruly dark raven hair and spectacles sitting by the windows face lit up, "Oh why of course you may." he said with a smirk while bowing his head.
Selene let out a scoff of disbelief but the smile on her face said different. She entered the compartment alongside Lily squeezing in beside her.
Selene swept her eyes across the compartment looking at all of them. The guy sitting by the window who had been the first and only to speak constantly kept running his hands through his hair but it did nothing to fix the messy look of it. His eyes kept looking at Lily seeing if she noticed him but her eyes were set upon her lap.
The guy sitting next to the bespectacled one was a boy with chin length dark black hair and cloudy gray eyes, he had a smirk on his face and was twirling his wand between his fingers.
The final boy sitting across from Selene was taller than the rest of them. He had sandy hair and soft eyes, a book placed in his hand. Scars littered his sullen face, he looked tired but has a soft smile.
The final guy in the compartment was sitting next to Lily. He had thin short blonde hair and his eyes kept scanning over everyone awkwardly.
What seemed like hours was only minutes of awkward silence passed when the guy with long hair spoke up, "So, what houses are you pretty girls hoping to end up in?"
Selene and Lily exchanged a look before Selene responded, "I'm fine with any of them. I only know the basics as of right now but I think Gryffindor or Ravenclaw would best suit me."
"Same." Lily quickly added on.
"Well," The bespectacled boy spoke up again, "We are all going to be in Gryffindor." He puffed out his chest confidently.
Selene smirked a mischievous glint in her eyes. It was obvious that she needed to mess with them a bit, damage the ego. "You lot all give me Hufflepuff vibes."
There was absolutely nothing wrong with Hufflepuffs. Later years, if you were to ask Selene what her favorite house was other than her own she would tell you the house of the kind and loyal.
They all blinked at her with deadpan faces before starting to argue.
"No way."
"I take offense to that."
"Maybe..."
"I am going to choose not to respond to that."
They all blurted out at the same time.
Selene laughed "I was joking, if you think Gryffindor then Gryffindor it is."
Lily was staring out the window, desperately trying to avoid the conversation.
She was stuck in a compartment with her best friend who couldn't help but partake in conversation and four incredibly immature boys.
Selene noticed this and nudged Lily to join in on the intellectual conversation.
Lily rolled her eyes but started to add little comments here and there, which was a start.
The six now knew each other's names after talking for half an hour or so. The raven-haired bespectacled boy by the name of James Potter, The jet-black long-haired boy named, Sirius Black
and the other two shyer ones by the names of Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew.
"NO!" Sirius yelled
"They are so much better!" Selene responded with humor evident in her voice.
"I have to agree with Sirius on this one, Sel." Lily laughed.
Selene put her hand to her heart in mock heartbreak, "Never in my days would I have ever thought you would betray me like this."
"Oh please! We are arguing over sweets." Lily rolled her eyes with a smile on her face.
"No, I take these personal, Cauldron Cakes are way better than Chocolate Frogs!" Selene shook her head looking disappointed "Who else agrees with me?"
The short blonde boy sitting in the corner raised his hand in agreement, "I agree with you, Selene." He said quietly.
"Yes! Finally someone with taste. Peter, I love you." Selene said blowing him a kiss.
Peter's face went red at this. Which everyone seemed to notice. Soon they all started to laugh.
