Five and a half years.
spencer had spent five and half years in eichen house.
it had also been five and a half years since she had last seen her parents. well, the people who abandoned her in this nuthouse.
she didn't consider them her parents one bit anymore. they were just the people who had witnessed her first steps, heard her first words. the people who feared her, sending her off to a psych ward, hoping it would fix whatever was wrong with their daughter.
she remembered the day vividly.
she watched the soft eyes of the man who had taught her to ride a bike and taken her to every daddy daughter dance, turn horrified within seconds.
she heard the comforting voice of the women who had bought her, her first doll house and had driven her to every single soccer practice, turn bitter.
and the next thing she knew, she was sitting in front of a check in desk, both her parents sitting as far away from her as they could.
when a new woman took her hand attempting to take her out of the room, spencer told her parents an innocent goodbye, as well as telling them that she loved them. but when both of them stood there in silence, with blank stares on their faces, spencer had a horrible feeling she'd never be attending another daddy daughter dance or one of her soccer-practices again.
she didn't cry over her "parents" though.
something about this made her realize their was no reason to be crying over any of this.
eichen house had become her new home, whether she had liked it or not. and over the years, spencer had gotten used to the rock hard mattress she slept on eachnight. she had tried making friends, but to her, everyone in the place actually had a reason for being here.
as for spencer? well, she had no clue why her parents sent her here. to her own knowledge, there wasn't anything wrong with her.
so, the idea of friends to her, didn't come easily. despite the fact that each room was assigned to two people. so, of course, spencer had to share the little amount of her own personal space with another person.
in the course of five and a half years, she saw so many different girls come and go. a few of which she managed to somewhat connect with-but it didnt last long, because before she knew it, her new roommate was being discharged, and another girl was being assigned a room.
there was no point to get attached. she shouldve learned that the second her parents ripped her away from the only people who understood her.
she didn't cry over her parents.
but she did cry over scott and stiles.
she had met the two boy's in the sandbox when they were four years old. spencer had reached for a shovel that some other boy was using, and in return the boy shouted at her, telling her it was his shovel, and that girls weren't allowed to use his shovel. spencer ignored the boy's rudeness, and turned back to her small sand castle she had been building. but just as she went to use her hand to dig something up, another arm extended out in front of her, holding a small shovel. she glanced up at the person, finding a boy with buzzed brown hair. beside him, another young boy with longer and messier brown hair. the boy held out the shovel, telling her that she could use his shovel if she wanted too. and spencer happily accepted the offer.
she learned the same day that the boy who had given her his shovel was named, stiles. the boy next to him, scott.
spencer can't recall one day of her childhood that she didn't spend with the two boy's after that.
and in the third grade, the three had signed a best friend contract, stating that the three of them would never leave one another's side, and that they would always be there for each other. no matter the circumstances.
and the three of them did exactly that.
when scott's dad's absence became permanent, spencer and stiles sat on his bed, and gave him all the time he needed to let everything he was feeling out. even if it left a few tears stains on either of their shoulders. spencer doesn't think she's ever hugged anyone tighter than how tight she hugged mrs. mccall.
and when stiles' mom passed away, spencer and scott sat front row of the funeral, sitting on either side of stiles. spencer even hand picked a bouquet of flowers to bring to mr. stilinski.
when she first arrived at eichen house, she was eleven years old.
she was almost seventeen now.
she had missed five and a half years of their lives. when she had left, they hadn't even started their first year of middle school yet. now, the two boy's would have just started their junior year of high school. the thought of everything she had missed out on in both of the boy's lives while she was stuck in this place haunted her. she so desperately held onto the vague memories she made with them, praying she wouldn't forget anything about them. but she knew eventually, all she would be left with was the ghosts of them.
she wondered every day what their life was like without her now that she was gone. were they upset that she had left them? were they upset that she had broken the contract they had signed? did they know where she was? did they even care that she was gone? were they even the same people they were before she left?
she never thought she would make a friend again. that was until about a month ago when a girl with light brown hair showed up as her new roommate. spencer wasn't interested, that was until the girl began talking, and slowly she realized, her new roommate was in the same position as her.
she was thrown into a psych ward by her father in hopes of it being able to fix her problems, when she didn't really seem to have any to begin with. none that spencer was aware of just yet at least.
soon, spencer learned her name was malia.
and within a week of knowing her, that hope of her being not crazy like her past roommates, quickly faded.
i mean, being a coyote practically half your life and murdering your family doesnt sound crazy in the slightest!
but, even though malia's apparent life story was quite interesting to say the least. there was something refreshing about the girl's personality. she was more down to earth than the rest, despite her obliviousness, spencer enjoyed her company.
she knew better than to grow too attached though, because within another month, she knew that malia would be discharged, and she would be starting the whole roommate process over again. it's what has happened every single time to spencer.
she had come to terms with her life. she was never going to have a true childhood. and she was never going to see beacon hills, ever again.
or so she thought.
