There is no dark side in the moon,
really. Matter of fact, it's all dark.

━━━ ECLIPSE, Pink Floyd
Why is the moon so lonely? Because part of her is always hidden, shrouded in the shadows of mystery and darkness, an ethereal enigma that very few understand.
Chaos and moondust are what she's made of. All she knows are scars and stars, but every time darkness falls, she rises and continues to shine bright, alone but strong, wandering aimlessly through the night. Her soul, battered and bruised, is old, far beyond how she appears to be with glowing tan skin, sleek black hair, a gleaming smile, and wide brown eyes that whisper secrets of countless lifetimes she can never fully remember.
Her mind is a wasteland of forgotten memories, scattered and gone with the wind. The few glimpses she does manage to catch in her dreams are full of nothing but pain, torture, and sorrow, warning her of what lurks in the depths of her psyche. She believes that some secrets are better left buried, some parts of her soul better left unseen. So when a mutant who possesses an immense amount of telepathic power by the name of Professor Charles Xavier rescues her and a group of captive mutants, she asks him for a favor—not to restore the memories she can't seem to remember but to rather keep them locked away, afraid of what might happen if she unveils the darkness that has been hidden for so long. She would rather not remember anything at all.
She can't even remember her own name. The only piece of herself that she manages to hold onto is an old silver heart locket she's had around her neck for as long as she can recall, which isn't that far. Inscribed on the back is the name Luna, and inside is a picture of a man she does not recognize, smiling with a grin that's brighter than the goddamn sun.
Why is the moon so lonely? Because she's lost something precious, something irreplaceable—any recollection of the life she once had and those within it.
Luna, as she comes to call herself over time, finds solace at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, where she learns to harness her powers, channeling the lunar energy that courses through her veins into something beautiful and controlled. Music becomes her sanctuary. Through countless melodies and pressed piano keys, Luna becomes a music teacher for the young mutants. Her journey from chaos to calm, from forgotten past to purposeful present, inspires her students to embrace their own unique gifts. She helps them navigate their own darkness, just as she continues to navigate hers.
In the quiet hours of the night, when the school is still, Luna often finds herself gazing at the moon alone, feeling a kinship with its distant, lonely beauty. She is content to live in the present, basking in the soft glow of her chosen life among her fellow mutants. Yet, despite this contentment, there is a lingering sense of loneliness, a piece of her that yearns for something lost in the past she chooses to forget. From time to time, Professor Xavier asks if she is still pleased with their arrangement to keep her memories locked away, and, for years, her answer is always the same; yes.
However, the day her path converges with Logan, the gruff mutant known as Wolverine, when he arrives at the X-Mansion, everything begins to change. The shadows start to shift, and the light of the past threatens to break through the walls built in her mind, illuminating secrets long kept hidden, like the dark side of the moon. Luna feels an indescribable pull toward the mysterious man she can't explain, as if their connection was written in the stars. Perhaps it's his rugged good looks, the way his gaze lingers on her as if she hung the moon and the stars in the sky, or the way he says her name with a raw yearning, like a wolf howling at the moon. Or perhaps it's the fact that Logan is the spitting image of the man in her locket.
Why is the moon so lonely? Because she used to have a lover.

♱ AUTHOR'S NOTE: after watching deadpool and wolverine, it reawakened something in me, something feral lmao i'm back in my x-men era! what a shocker (not really)! logan has always been near and dear to me. and the x-men movies were what got me into superheroes as a kid. so i've got a lot of love for them and my man logan. he was one of my favorites and still is honestly. so here we are! a logan fic! the setting will take place during the x-men and wolverine movies and will include some canon stuff from the comics. a little mix of both worlds! also if the summary was a bit confusing, lemme give some quick background. luna is a mutant who's powers are lowkey inspired by sailor moon. basically logan and luna used to be lovers a long long time ago (soulmatism!!!) but certain events take place in the middle of the timeline that lead to both of them not remembering anything from their past including each other! act 1 will kinda go over their past history together and dive into both their origin stories during sometime in the movie x-men origins: wolverine. then act 2 will take place during the first x-men movie and so on and so forth. you get the idea! i'm so excited to start writing for this fic and i hope you guys are excited to read what i have in store! xoxo
