~Chapter 13~

Gus scouted out the facility on multiple occasions, trying to devise a plan to get Dutch out when Quinlan and Fet returned. After he had done all he could do for the day he returned to the safe house, collapsing on the couch. He rubbed his face hard almost as if he was trying to rub away all the worry and guilt he felt inside. As he did he released a low groan of frustration.

Eph had heard him come in, "you alright there?"

"Not really, no. First Lianna and now Dutch. I want to think think they are safe but I know they are not. And there ain't shit I can do about it!" As he talked his voice filled with frustration, he could feel his stomach turn and the back of his neck burn with panic. "I just want them back with us....safe."

"I know...me too...", Eph could not find any other words. He felt the same as Gus, helpless. Two people that they had grown to care about were out there somewhere, having god knows what happening to them.

Dutch played their game and grew closer to having an escape plan. She had arranged for one of the delivery boys to sneak her out of the facility in a fridge system. She only had 24hours before she would be on the truck to freedom. She just need to lay low for time.

Her heart sank as she saw Eichorst enter the glass office overlooking the room she sat in. "Oh bloody hell, this is the last thing I need right now!" She hurried to be out of sight of the office, and she had hoped she was successful in going undetected by him.

A guard approached her a few minutes later, "follow me, someone would like to speak with you." Shit. She followed the guard and as she climbed the stairs to the glass room she felt her cheeks burn with worry. The guard pushed her in and shut the door behind her.

"Miss Velders what a pleasure", her heart raced as she heard his cold dead voice. "What a pleasure it is to see you." Dutch refused to respond she knew what he wanted, he wanted to see her tremble in fear. "I bet you have missed Lianna", Dutch's eyes went wide, "she is such great company!" A wicked smile crossed his lips and it made her skin crawl.

"What have you done to her?!"

"Oh nothing", the same wicked smile crossed his lips, "she's very hard to crack, she won't even give me a scream when I whip her." He walked closer, "I bet you'd scream for me, wouldn't you Miss Velders", he twisted her hair in his fingers now.

"You're a sick man....no monster!"

"Yes I am a monster", he nodded for he guard to re-enter, "it's been a pleasure truly. But unlike Lianna you are not of much use to us." Her turned to speak to the guard now, "take her to the draining room, I want her blood to me within the hour."

As the guard grabbed Dutch and dragged her away she screamed, "no! No! Please! Please stop!" She grabbed at anything and everything, she was not prepared to die. The guard shoved her into a room where other people awaited there cruel fate. A video playing over and over again about how everyone has a part to play and this was the greatest part. She knew that the people waiting had no idea what was waiting for them on the other side. She yelled with fear and anger in her voice, "don't you guys see what is happening?!"

"Shut up and wait your turn", one of the guards shouted.

"They are warping your minds! This a a draining room, do any of you know what that means?"

"I said shut up!" The guard walked towards her now. She saw the others swell with fear.

"They want us to willingly go to the slaughter! Are we sheep or are we survivors?" And with that the room erupted into chaos! The guard that had been walking towards her was soon tackled to the ground by one of the men who had occupied the room. She knelt down and quickly swiped his key card and made a break for it. It was now or never!

After weeks Quinlan and Fet finally found a nuke it was located at Minot Air Force Base, in North Dakota. There weren't many men still protecting the nuke, but they were heavily armed. Quinlan was the only one fast enough to get close. Him and Fet worked out a plan, and soon they put it into play.

Quinlan ran as fast as he could, he appeared like a blur. As he came to an abrupt halt he drove his blade through the first man. As he retracted his blade he replaced it in the sheath. Pulling out his two uzis as the other men began to fire at him. He felt several shots strike his chest, but he was unmoved by them. If anything he found them to be annoying. As he attacked the next man Fet and the others charged towards them. The men were so distracted by Quinlan and his abilities they had become so focus on him they didn't realize the others until it was to late. Soon all of the men were dead but one.

He fell to his knees as Quinlan aimed his uzi at his head, "please...please I surrender! Please I don't want to die." Quinlan looked at him blankly, "please I can help you!"

Fet spoke now, "Quinlan, we could use him. He most likely is trained on how to use this thing."

Quinlan grunted but before he could speak the man on his knees spoke in a hurry, "yes! I am I know how to use it! I can make adjustment whatever you want!"

Quinlan spoke as he lowered his weapon, "you show any sign that we cannot trust you, then I will kill you." The man shook his head to show he understood as he stumbled to his feet. "What is your name?"

"Roman", his teeth still chattered in fear.

"You have no need to fear me, as long as you do not try anything that would displease us", when Quinlan finished he turned and walked away.

Fet and the others loaded the nuke into the van and after he helped them load the other supplies they found into their vehicles. Fet thought it best to camp there for the night. Fet and Quinlan went to collect wood to help keep them warm through the night.

Fet noticed the bullet holes in Quinlan's coat. "Hey you all right there?"

"I'll be fine", he knew the bullets needed to be removed but figured he would do it himself after they had gotten the fire started for everyone.

Fet knew not to press anymore, "you excited to see your girl when we get back?"

"She is not my girl", he wanted her to be but when he returned he wasn't sure if she would still feel the same now that she knew his fate.

"Right? Then Lianna, you excited to get back to her?"

"I will be pleased to see her, yes", Quinlan picked up the last log he could find, "this should be enough. It will be dark soon." They turned and walked back in silence to the others. Quinlan quickly lit the fire and sat on the log removing all of his top layers. The cold didn't bother him, he was warmer than ordinary humans. He took out his smaller knife and began to dig at his wounds to remove the rounds that still sat in his body.

The woman in the group came up and gently pushed his hand away gesturing for him to stop, "please let me help you." Quinlan did not say a word but laid his knife on the log and sat there. The woman took this as his permission to remove the bullets. "Fet says you have a girl waiting for you." Quinlan did not answer but stared into the fire. "She must be special."

Quinlan did not look away from the crackling flames, "what do you mean?"

"I just mean...you have lived for over two thousand years, it has to take a special girl to catch your eye." Quinlan simply nodded, "tell me about her."

"What would you like to know?"

"Hmm...what does she look like."

"Beautiful", Fet yelled in a drunken state, clearly listening in on their conversation.

"Yes beautiful, she has long brown hair and her eyes..." he pause as he thought, "they posses so much passion..."

"Like there's a fire lit deep in her soul?" The woman smiled as she waited for his response.

"Yes, a fire that cannot easily be extinguished." A small grin crossed his lips as he imagined her face. Quinlan and the woman continued to speak as she removed the last of the bullets. Tonight was a night of celebration for them, they were finally able to return to the ones they loved. Little did they know...

Eichorst entered the room where Lianna was held. He walked up to her in anger, "your good friend Miss Velders escaped today, so disappointing I would have very much liked to taste her." Lianna's eyes were glued to the ground, "look at me", she did not, "I said look at me!"

Lianna looked up unable to hold her head with pride now. She could not take anymore. She had lost track of the time and no longer knew if it was night or day. She had not seen the light of day since she was dragged to this room.

Eichorst smiled with pride, "finally after so much pain I see the fire in you going out. All I see now is coals, and those coals will soon turn to ashes. Tell me will your beloved Quinlan still want you then?" Lianna put her head down, she did not want them to win but she was not sure how much longer she could hang on. Eichorst had what he wanted and left her in the dark to her thoughts.

"My soul burns as bright as it can my love, please hurry. I do not know how much longer I can hold on for you to come." Her only comfort now was to speak aloud to Quinlan as a Christian would say their prayers to God.
