I feel it now
Alex
I can feel it.
The hum vibrates in my bones, a low, constant thrum that won't let go. Every step I take seems to draw me deeper into its pull. It's almost like the world itself is breathing, exhaling this sound, a whisper of something ancient, something that's been waiting. At first, I thought it was just my mind playing tricks on me. We've been through so much, and I'm no stranger to the feeling that something's watching, something's guiding us. But now, it's undeniable. I know I'm supposed to follow it. And I'm not alone.
Kai's right beside me, his presence a comfort and a weight all at once. We've been through too much for me to ignore how much I need him, but it's different now. There's a quiet understanding between us, a kind of peace that settles in my chest when we're together. But there's also the tension of what's coming—what we're about to face.
His hand brushes mine, just for a moment, before he pulls away. I feel the familiar ache of wanting more, of needing him, but this isn't the time for that. Not with everything we're walking into.
"Alex," he says softly, his voice barely above a whisper, but I hear it loud and clear. "You're sure about this, right? We're not just chasing shadows?"
I meet his eyes, and in them, I see the same doubt I feel. The same fear. But there's something else, too—something I can't name. Hope? Maybe. It's a strange feeling for me. I've never been one for optimism. But with Kai here, by my side, it feels... possible.
"I don't know what's at the end of this," I admit, my voice tight. "But I have to believe it's leading us somewhere important. Somewhere we're supposed to be."
Kai doesn't respond right away. He just looks at me, his lips pressed into a thin line, eyes unreadable. It's one of the things I love and hate about him—how impossible it is to fully figure him out. But I think he's always felt the same way about me, and that understanding, that connection, is something we've never talked about, but it's always been there.
"We've come this far," Kai finally says, his voice quiet but firm. "We keep going. No turning back now."
I nod, even though my heart is pounding in my chest. He's right. We've come this far. We've survived everything the world has thrown at us, and we're not about to give up now.
The hum grows louder, more insistent. I can feel it thrumming in my veins, in the air around me. It's almost like it's calling me, pulling me forward. And with each step, I can sense that we're getting closer to something, something big. I just don't know what it is yet.
Ahead of us, Finn and Lyra are walking together, their backs straight, their movements synchronized. There's something about them—something calm, something steady. Even with all the chaos in the world, they've found a way to hold on to each other. To survive.
I can't help but glance over at Kai again. He notices, of course. His eyes flick to mine for just a moment, his expression softening in a way that makes my heart ache.
"We're almost there," I say, more to myself than to him. "Whatever it is, we're close."
Kai nods, but he doesn't seem convinced. I can't blame him. There's too much uncertainty ahead, too much unknown. And as much as I want to believe in this—believe in what's ahead—I can't shake the feeling that something's wrong. That maybe this hum, this pull, is something darker than we realize.
"Do you feel it?" I ask him, trying to keep the edge of fear out of my voice. "Like... this pull? Like the world is drawing us in?"
Kai looks at me for a long moment before answering, his voice almost too quiet to hear. "I do. But I'm not sure what it means."
Neither am I. But I know we have no choice but to follow it. To see this through, no matter what.
We keep moving, the path winding in front of us, the air thick with tension. The hum is louder now, almost deafening, a constant presence that fills the silence around us. It's both comforting and unnerving, like something ancient is reaching out to us, trying to communicate in a language we don't yet understand.
I don't know how long we've been walking, but I can feel the weight of every step pressing on me. It's like we're marching toward something inevitable, something that we won't be able to stop. The ground beneath my feet feels different, shifting under my boots in a way that unsettles me.
And then, without warning, the ground shakes.
It's not just a tremor; it's a deep, rumbling force that seems to come from the very heart of the earth itself. I stumble, grabbing onto Kai's arm to steady myself, my heart racing as the world around me shifts.
"What the hell is that?" I gasp, my voice strained as I try to stay upright.
"It's Mother Nature," Kai says, his voice grim. "She's waking up. Everything we've done, everything we've faced... it's all led to this."
The ground shakes again, harder this time, and I can feel the hum shift in the air, as if the earth itself is responding to whatever Mother Nature is doing. It's a force greater than anything we've ever encountered, and it's coming for us. Coming for all of us.
The trees around us start to bend, their branches snapping in the wind, their trunks groaning with the weight of something huge moving beneath the surface. The sky darkens, the sun blotted out by a sudden storm that seems to form from nothing.
"Get ready," Finn's voice calls out from ahead. "This is it."
I know he's right. This is it. We've made it this far, but whatever comes next is going to change everything. And as much as I want to be ready, to face whatever this is head-on, I can't help but feel the weight of everything we've already lost, everything we're still fighting for.
"Stay close," I tell Kai, my voice barely a whisper, but I know he hears me.
He nods, his hand reaching for mine, the warmth of his touch grounding me in the chaos around us. Together, we face whatever comes next.
The hum is deafening now, and I know this is just the beginning.
