JADE FOLLOWED Luna to Madame Puddifoot's tea shop on the next trip to Hogsmeade.
"I can't wait for Harry's interview, Jade, I think this is really going to help." Luna was beaming as they walked down the street, her arms swinging by her sides.
"Are you sure this interview is going to go as well as you expect?"
Luna stopped in her tracks and whipped her head around to look at Jade.
"Of course. Hermione and I have some tricks." She huffed, stamping her right heel in the ground and taking off again.
Jade had a harder time keeping up with her, she was almost sprinting to Madame Puddifoot's at this rate. Her long hair bounced against her shoulders, which were covered by a purple sweater. Jade wasn't entirely sure how she was running so fast, she was in a pair of black flats with no socks and a knee length white skirt.
She had stuck with a simpler outfit today. It was a white sweater and her nicest pair of blue jeans, with a gold necklace on a short chain. There were two charms on it, both of which Luna had gotten for Jade. They were two crescent moons, and both had a small diamond in the middle of them.
It was her Christmas gift for Jade.
Luna was already inside the building by the time Jade caught up to her. She knew Luna was in a hurry to meet Hermione, but she didn't think it was necessary to be moving as fast as she was. Inside the building, Luna was placing a quick to-go order of two green teas, with light sugar. It wasn't Jade's favorite type of tea, but she would have to deal with it.
The two sat at a table closest to the doors. It had a centerpiece, a red rose in a vase that was nearly full of water. Luna was twirling her hair around her finger, humming quietly to herself. Jade stared outside, looking at the couples walking through the streets of Hogsmeade. Mandy and Anthony walked by, their arms full of candy, laughing and joking with each other.
"What tricks do you have up your sleeve?" Jade asked, turning to face her girlfriend.
Luna stopped humming and her eyes moved up to meet Jade's. She had a look in her eyes, one that was cold and determined.
"I didn't think you'd want to know, considering you don't seem to be convinced that we have this under control. It feels like you don't trust me."
Jade sat up straighter, her eyebrows raising in confusion. She felt her mouth drop open a bit, and, before she knew it, or before she began to think about her words, she started to speak.
"I never said such a thing, Luna." Jade exhaled, closing her eyes and trying to calm down. She didn't want to say anything she would regret.
"It seemed like it," Luna's voice began to rise from its normal dreamy, quiet state. "It really did seem like it, Jade."
Jade's eyes opened slowly, and all she could see were Luna's gray eyes staring into hers. They were narrowed, making them appear far less friendly, and not as big as they normally were. She almost looked intimidating, it nearly scared Jade out of her black, mud-covered boots.
"Luna, I trust both of you, I really do, but-" She was cut off by their teas being set down on the table.
Luna picked hers up and stood, pushing her metal chair into place and taking off towards the door.
Jade stood and ran after her, nearly spilling her tea on herself. Luna was strutting down the street, her head held high and her stride almost double Jade's. She was trying to get away from her on purpose.
"Luna, wait, please!"
Luna slowed, her shoulders slouching slightly. Jade hadn't noticed until then how rigid she had been walking, it was like she was as stiff as a board. Her stride grew smaller and Jade began to catch up, slowing down as she neared her girlfriend.
"I'm sorry, I do believe in you guys. I think you have it under control." Jade could feel her throat closing as the tears began to well up in her eyes.
"If you need me, I'll be at the Three Broomsticks with Hermione, Harry, and Rita." She gave a small smile, one that didn't seem to have much malice, if any at all, behind it.
Jade stood in the middle of the street, tea in one hand, and the other rubbing the back of her neck. She felt two hot tears fall from her eyes, dropping on to the pavement in front of her.
That was when the rain hit.
Luna had disappeared from her sight, leaving her in the rain on a cobblestone road. It had been their first actual fight, and it left Jade in tears.
She began her trek up to the castle. She wanted to follow Luna to the Three Broomsticks, she wanted to see their tricks and she wanted to see how they were going to interview Harry, but she didn't want to make her even more enraged. Luna had seemed okay with her coming, but she knew she would slip up and say something that would piss someone off.
The rain came down harder, soaking through Jade's white sweater and drenching her curls, making them flatten and stick to the side of her face. It was just like the day we met, Jade thought, except with an unhappier ending.
She pushed a lock of hair from her eyes and continued to walk, her steps slowing as she approached the entrance to the castle. She was irritated, not just with herself, but with her hair. Jade wanted to dry it, but she knew it was pointless when she'd be showering as soon as she got back into her dorm and grabbed her belongings.
I guess I'll figure everything out later. She thought to herself, walking into the castle and leaving a trail of water behind her.
Jade had never felt so alone in her entire life, not even when Terry abandoned their friend group. At least then they had each other and were able to comfort each other. Now, she was all by herself until everyone returned.
