AFTER THE first meeting, the group had progressed on to Impedimenta, Stupefy, and Reducto. Out of everyone, Jade noticed that Ginny was doing the best, followed closely by Neville Longbottom. Though she wasn't surprised by Ginny's ability, Neville shocked her. No one ever really seemed to pay attention to him during meetings except for Luna, Jade, Harry, and Ginny, who all complimented him on his skills.
"You're getting a lot better, Neville." Luna said, smiling at him. "I'm really impressed."
Neville just smiled back, rubbing his arm nervously.
Eventually, the four of them began to work in a group whenever possible, letting Mandy, Anthony, and Michael join every now and then.
"Why are you so determined to help Neville?" Mandy asked Jade one night after the club disbanded.
"He's really improving, Mandy. I know he's considered the laughing stock of our year, but he's not a bad kid." She answered, shrugging her shoulders.
As they entered the Common Room, Mandy nodded in agreement.
"You're right, he is a nice kid."
And so, things had begun to get better for each member of the club. Everyone was slowly improving, slowly learning more about hexes and jinxes, and slowly trying to learn how to not harm their peers in the room. Anthony had left with a bloody nose more than once, especially during the nights of Stupefy practice. Mandy hit him once when he wasn't looking, which led to him falling face first on the stone floor. The other time was from Ron, who accidentally aimed the wrong way and hit Anthony, who was also in the middle of casting the spell.
Despite his injuries, Anthony was still supporting Gryffindor at their Quidditch match. In fact, the majority of Ravenclaw was supporting Gryffindor at the match, especially Luna, who had been working on a special hat for the game.
"You're gonna leave an impression." Jade said the night before the game. They were sitting in Luna's dorm, on her bed, and she was watching her put the finishing touches on the hat.
"I know. A lot of people aren't going to understand, but that's okay, I just want to show my support for my friends."
As Luna anticipated, most people weren't fond, or understanding, of her ginormous lion hat. Despite the words being whispered behind her back, Luna wore it proudly for the rest of the day, sitting proudly in the Gryffindor stands.
"That's, uh, unique, Luna." Mandy told her, raising an eyebrow.
"Thank you Mandy, it took a lot of work."
Mandy nudged Jade, her eyes widening in shock.
"You're lucky I love both of you, Jade."
The game was inducing anxiety in the entire Gryffindor side. Despite most of the team playing well, Ron had been performing shakily, making everyone nervous. Ginny was on the edge of her seat, her hands holding her robes in a tight grip and her jaw clenched. Anthony and Mandy sat behind Jade and Luna, and every now and then, Jade could hear Anthony mutter under his breath.
When Slytherin scored, a song rose from their section of the stands. Slowly, but surely, their voices began to rise and came over any other noise in the Quidditch stadium. When Jade looked into their stands, she saw Pansy Parkinson waving her arms in a wild fashion, followed by lyrics ringing in the air.
"Weasley cannot save a thing,
He cannot block a single ring,
That's why Slytherins all sing:
Weasley is our King."
"Oh, no." Ginny muttered, her brown eyes shooting daggers at the Slytherin section. "This is not happening right now."
Luna poked Jade's arm, her finger pointing at a figure by the goal posts. It was Ron, who appeared significantly less confident as the song continued on. More points were scored by the Slytherins, raising the tension in the other sections of the Quidditch stands.
"Weasley is our King!" The Slytherins yelled out, followed by a large amount of cackling from their students.
"This is ridiculous." Anthony mumbled. "Pansy needs to shut her smug pug face before I-"
"Anthony, shush." Mandy replied.
Jade sighed, looking at Luna, who began to look more uneasy about the match as it continued on. Her wide eyes began to show signs of nervousness, and her mouth was pulled into a firm, thin line.
However, much to their surprise, Gryffindor had managed to secure the win.
"It was all due to your hat Luna, I'm telling you that right now." Mandy told her, giving her a warm smile.
"I sincerely doubt that's why they won, but if I boosted anyone's confidence at all, I'm happy." She answered, slowly pulling the lion hat off her head.
"I'm sure you did something, it's a pretty impressive piece."
"Well, I hope I did. I'll wear it to the next match too."
"Maybe we can match in some way next time too?" Jade suggested, grabbing her hand as they stepped out of the stands.
"Oh, possibly, though I don't think I'll be able to produce another hat for you."
"That's okay, I'll borrow something red and gold of Ginny's, maybe something with a lion on it, then we can show our pride."
Luna beamed, her eyes lighting up with happiness.
"I won't wear it if they play Ravenclaw next, though."
Jade laughed and put her arm around her, pulling her in closer.
"That's alright, they know you're still supporting them at heart."
