THE FIRST Dumbledore's Army meeting went better than Jade had anticipated.
Harry had found out about a special room on the seventh floor, thanks to his house-elf friend Dobby. The room, which they learned was named the Room of Requirement, could provide anything they needed, as long as it followed the rules of Transfiguration. Hermione had charmed special coins that would display the time and date of their next meeting, which fell on a Thursday night after dinner.
Jade met Luna in the entrance hall, where she stood in her robes and pointy witch hat, staring out at the night sky.
"Hey, Luna, what's up?" She asked, approaching her quickly. She rubbed her hands together nervously, wanting to reach out and grab hers.
"Just waiting for you. I haven't been here for long, don't worry." Luna turned towards Jade, giving her a small smile.
The sun had begun to set behind her, illuminating her entire figure with a ray of bright oranges, reds, and pinks. Though it really should have clashed, it matched her platinum blonde locks, making them seem even paler and more radiant.
Jade smiled back, and extended her left hand for her to grab on to. Her smile grew bigger, and she latched on to her hand. Jade let out a small gasp, Luna was cold as ice, maybe even colder than that, especially compared to her warm body temperature.
"Why are you so cold?" She inquired as they walked down the hallways.
"You haven't noticed? I'm cold all the time. I'm used to it by now."
Jade made her stop, in the middle of the fifth floor hallway, and shrugged off her own robes. She put them around Luna, and she slowly put her arms through the holes and wrapped them tightly around her.
"It's not a jacket, but it's the best I can do."
Luna let out a quiet laugh, nodding her head in appreciation. The two continued their trek, traversing two more flights of stairs and wandering around the seventh floor until they walked through the corridor the room resided in. Slowly, the two of them walked up to it, hands still gripping each other, and spoke at the same time:
"Dumbledore's Army."
They had both been informed that they had to think about what they needed, but Jade knew that it couldn't hurt to say it out loud either. Slowly, a door manifested from the wall, and Jade reached out for the handle. She could hear noise coming from the bottom of the door, mainly laughter and people clapping. The meeting wasn't supposed to start for another ten minutes, so she figured Harry hadn't started yet and everyone was just trying to entertain each other.
Jade turned the handle, and the door swung inwards, revealing the two of them to the other twenty-three members within. A few people had turned, looking around nervously, out of fear they had been caught, but their faces dropped to relief once they saw who it was.
"Hurry on in!" Ginny said, ushering them inside. "We can't let anyone see our door, or our location."
They ran in, and Jade shut the door as fast as she could. She could hear it disappearing as she walked away, and let out a sigh of relief.
With over five minutes to spare, the group had continued to laugh and joke around, watching the Weasley twins throw mini fireworks into the air and play pranks on members of the club. Ron watched them from afar, trying to seem annoyed at his brother's actions, but even he couldn't help but crack up at some of their jokes. Hermione and Harry had been discussing in the corner, presumably details about the meeting, right until the meeting was supposed to begin.
The three of them gathered at the head of the room, and everyone moved from the floor and wall to stand around them. Jade felt her leg begin to shake, and she felt a hand wrap around her upper right arm.
"We're going to be okay." Luna whispered, moving up to stand next to her. "Don't be nervous."
Though she tried, her leg would not stop quaking. It was like the floor was shaking at an astounding rate, but only beneath her legs.
"Uh...hello, everyone?" Harry stammered slightly, flashing a nervous smile at the club. "Welcome to the first meeting of Dumbledore's Army."
Someone in the back, presumably Fred or George, whooped. Harry's smile grew a little more bold, and he began to gain more confidence as he spoke. He led the club into the Disarming Charm, his personal favorite, as stated by multiple people, practicing on Hermione and Ron.
"You have to be quick, or else you'll b-"
"Expelliarmus!" Hermione yelled, flicking her wand and knocking Harry's out of his hand.
"Case in point."
Everyone broke up into groups of four, with Jade sticking close to Anthony, Mandy, and Luna. Padma had joined Terry, Parvati, and Zacharias in the corner, where all but Zacharias was enthusiastic to participate. Anthony and Luna faced each other, and Mandy faced Jade, holding her wand close to her side.
"I'm sorry if I hurt you." She said, her lips forming a thin line.
"It's okay, we kind of have to for this exercise." Jade shrugged, moving her wand to the front of her. Mandy caught and and pulled her's up immediately, getting ready to strike.
"Just don't be caught off-guard."
"Oh, I know Mandy."
The two grinned, staring each other down. Out of the corner of her eye, Jade watched Anthony's wand fly from his hand, clattering to the floor behind him. She turned to congratulate Luna, only to be greeted with a red bolt heading straight for her hand.
Her wand flew, landing five feet to her right.
"I told you, don't be caught off-guard."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, shut your mouth." Jade laughed, picking up her wand from the stone floor.
Jade waited, staring her best friend down, until she watched her eyes dart towards Anthony, who dodged a stray charm from across the room.
"Expelliarmus!" She shouted, casting the charm from her wand and sending it to Mandy.
It rocketed out of her hand, flying a few feet from where she stood. Luna and Anthony glanced over, Anthony laughing at Mandy's misfortune, and Luna beaming at Jade.
"Hey, good job!" She exclaimed, her eyes lighting up with pride.
"You too, I saw your spell earlier. That's when Mandy disarmed me."
"I saw. You recovered pretty quickly though."
"I try, I try."
The two laughed, and Jade gave Mandy a small glare, as if to say "don't you dare try and charm me right now."
"I know not to charm you, just don't get caught off-guard again, lovebird."
"Shut up Amanda Brocklehurst."
