HIGH INQUISITOR Umbridge had put out a decree banning the formation of new clubs, teams, and other groups without her permission. All existing groups had to ask for permission to reform, which made it even worse.

This made Jade even more anxious at the prospect of joining Dumbledore's Army. In their dormitory, Jade, Mandy, and Padma were the only members, Su and Lisa had to be left in the dark.

"Su's mother works for the Ministry, if she found out Su was a member she would remove her from the school immediately." Mandy said that night, while the three girls were sitting at a chair in the Common Room.

It was the next morning that they saw the decree, the one that filled Jade with so much anxiety. Someone had snitched on Dumbledore's Army.

In the Great Hall, Anthony, Michael, and Terry had attempted to ask Hermione, Ron, and Harry about who potentially snitched, but they were shooed away under the guise of raising suspicion. Anthony sat down, huffing, and Terry folded his arms across his chest.

"I want to know who ratted us out," Terry said snidely, sitting next to Anthony. "I'll give them a nice dose of Weasley products."

"You won't do any such thing." Mandy scolded, giving Terry a glare.

"Try me, Amanda."

She sighed and resumed reading the Daily Prophet, the corner of it falling into her bowl of cereal. Jade moved it, but the corner was already drenched in milk.

A figure had come swaying towards the table, long blonde hair flowing behind her. Jade looked up at Luna and smiled, patting the spot on the seat next to her. Luna sat, giving Jade a big smile, and grabbed a muffin from the center of the table. Soon, Ginny Weasley made her way over to the table, making a beeline right for Michael.

"We're still doing it." She muttered, leaning her head into the group.

"We are?" Jade asked, her eyes wide and her face twisted in disgust.

"Yes, we are. We don't care what Umbridge says."

Luna placed her hand on Jade's, trying to reassure her. Her face changed back to a vague smile, and she resumed eating her muffin. Ginny stayed at the table for a while, talking to Michael about plans for the night, but eventually she left and rejoined her friends at the Gryffindor table.

"I feel like a fool, believing in our peers to lead us in defending ourselves." Jade said later that night, while she and Luna sat in the Common Room.

"I believe in Harry." Luna replied in a quiet voice. She was beading something, it looked to Jade like it was a necklace. She had purple and blue beads spread out on the table in front of her, and her fingers were quickly tying knots in the rubber.

"I believe in Harry, too, but, I'm nervous. What if we get caught?"

"If we get caught, we'll at least know how to protect ourselves from those attacking us."

Jade placed a brown bookmark in her History of Magic book and shut it gently. She placed it on the table, next to Luna's pile of beads, and turned to look at her. Luna was right, they would know how to protect themselves from those that attacked them, but at what cost? Their education?

"I-I guess that's true." Jade cocked her head to the side, pulling her legs up on to the seat and sitting cross-legged.

"It's best that we do know how to protect ourselves, I want to keep myself safe. I want to keep you safe, too."

She paused and looked directly into the fire illuminating the room. Suddenly, it felt a lot closer, and a lot more warm.

"I want to keep you safe." She replied on instinct, and she thought she could see Luna smile out of the corner of her eye, even as she focused so intently on the fire.

"Then, you need to be in Dumbledore's Army. I know you're anxious, I'm even a little anxious, but I think we will be fine. There's no way Umbridge could have found out, Ginny told me that Hermione put a jinx on the paper."

This made Jade curious, so she turned to face Luna, who was still beading her necklace.

"What kind of jinx?" She inquired, leaning in closer to her.

"I'm not sure, Hermione wouldn't say." Luna replied, yawning afterwards. Her beading had become sloppier and slower, an indication she should probably head up to the dorm.

Jade wasn't sure if it was weird to be obsessed with everything someone did, and to love everything someone did, but that was how she felt when she watched Luna. Her yawn was adorable, it almost sounded like Su's cat's meow, and her determined concentration on the necklace despite her exhaustion was admirable. Her platinum hair had fallen across her face, shielding it from Jade's view, until she pulled it back with a swift motion and tucked it into her colorful sweater.

She understood what her friends had meant by loony. Luna was absolutely out there, she was the most eccentric person in Hogwarts, but she was eccentric in a lovely way. Maybe it was her bright clothing, or her loud accessories, or even the bright red shoes she liked to wear on weekends. People didn't seem to understand her, but Jade felt she did.

"I think you need to go to bed." Jade suggested, picking her book up from the table.

"After this knot." Luna said, in a quieter voice than usual. She had also sounded more stubborn.

Finally, she slowly tied the final knot on the necklace and attached the clasp to the end of it, hooking it around her neck.

"I have to add a charm to it, but father hasn't sent it to me yet."

"What kind of charm?"

"You'll see. Good night Jade."

Luna stood swiftly, grabbing her jewelry making items in her arms and leaning over to kiss her on the forehead. She gave her a big grin, and floated up the stairs to the fourth year girl's dormitory. Jade sat there, staring into the fire, until her legs began to grow numb from sitting cross legged for so long. Slowly, she stood, still thinking about the mysterious charm Luna could be adding to her necklace.

The next morning, Luna had received a package from her father Xenophilius, and she disappeared to put the charm on her necklace. Jade hadn't noticed what it was until Mandy nudged her in the ribs, her eyes flicking in the direction of Luna's neck. When Jade saw the charm, she felt a chill run up her body and her entire face turn red. Of all the details Luna could have remembered about her, she remembered what flower she loved.

In the middle of the beads that did not match its color too well sat a red tulip, dangling right below Luna's shirt collar.
