CHAPTER 2
I was woken up by gentle tapping, making me open my eyes abruptly. It was Tosin who was waking me up. "What's wrong?" My voice was raspy.
"It is time for morning workout, hurry or you're going to be late," she said in a low voice as she went back to her bed.
"Morning workout?" I asked with a frown.
"Yes. It was announced at the 'welcome meeting' yesterday."
I groaned and began to stretch. "Ughhhh! I wish they wouldn't."
"Your tracksuit is in the bag by your bed." With that, she grabbed her phone from her bed side, leaving the room without another word.
I sighed as I sat up on my bed, stretched my body very well, before I put my legs on the floor and got up. There was a white 'Kabiyosi Suites' bag by my bed. I figured it was going to be the bag she was talking about. So, I lazily got up, checking what was in it. She got a royal blue tracksuit, what was I given red? I groaned as I lazily slipped them on, grabbing my phone from under my pillow. I wore the white sneakers that were beside my bed and left the room. I quickly checked the group chat as I did. The girls had actually been counting down to when I was going to wake up. I smiled to myself as I joined the group of people who were heading out. I figured we were all going to be together. I followed the crowd to a field, besides the building. The building was really long, and looked endless from where the really long field was. I called the girls, and as directed found them gathered around; jesting, laughing, and talking. Toyosi and some other girls and a guy were gathered with them also. "Hi guys," I greeted them as I slightly entered the middle of the circle, facing the unfamiliar faces and wrapping my left arm around Collin's right arm.
"Oh, look, she's alive," Toyosi said with a smile, making the others burst into a laughter, especially 'the girls'.
I shook my head with a smile. "I don't like you guys," I said with a smile.
We all had wide grins on our faces, as I tried not to look awkwardly at the strange faces who were smiling with us. But, I was obviously doing an awful job as Toyosi cleared her throat and began to introduce them. "This here, is Soma," she said, with her palm stretched to the tall dark really good looking guy with a glowing skin that was standing beside her. His dark was so fine I was about to start eye flirting with him, when she added, "He's my boyfriend and best friend."
I couldn't help reflectively clearing my throat as I questioned, "Your boyfriend?" She nodded. "Seriously sis? You like never told us. That's so against the sisters' code," I said with a slight frown, as I was slightly pissed, but also happy for her.
"Seriously Tee," Esse said in a low voice, with a slight confusion on her face. "That's not right."
'The girls' also looked confused, except for the strangers amongst us. I sighed.
Toyosi shook her head a little. "No, it's not exactly like that. Honestly." I nodded, and hmm-ed. "I'm serious. We're still like in the late dating times, he hasn't asked me yet." She spoke like he wasn't there.
We all mouthed a 'oh', as my lips spread into a wide grin.
She nodded. "I don't know why he wouldn't just do it. I don't know what's holding him down, maybe he's found someone else he'd rather be with." Her voice got higher. Like she was then directly speaking to him.
We all giggled, while he rubbed the back of his neck shyly. "Oh come on," I tried to make him feel better.
"And these are Alima, Aisha, and Adijah," she said, pointing to a group of girls who mostly looked alike. The only difference was their color. One was brownish-dark, the other was brownish, while the last was darkish. I quickly figured out they were triplets, as we all nodded.
A whistle was blow, drawing everyone's' attention. It was the young looking guy from the 'Welcome Meeting' of the night before that day. "Since the population is enough, lets' begin out morning exercise." With that, he blew his whistle one more time and began to jog.
We jogged two laps, and then jogged back to the building, where we all split up and promised to meet during breakfast.
Tosin was in the room when I got in, she had had her bath and was drying her body when I walked in. "Wow, that's so quick," I said to her animatedly, which she didn't reply to. "How was it?" I tried again. But, she still didn't reply me as she got dressed and fell on her bed, as she began to read a novel.
I sighed to myself as I got undressed, throwing my cloth in our laundry box as I grabbed my towel and made my way to the bathroom. She made me feel really awkward. Well, I should have shut my mouth too after all. It was not everyone, one should try to be too friendly with, I tried to advice myself. I had my bath, and got dressed also. I wore a boyfriend jean, with a mustard colored turtle neck long sleeve and black baggy t-shirt, that had 'Jiggy' printed on it in mustard color, tucked in. Alongside a white Nike sneakers. When I was fully satisfied with how my outfit turned out. I sat down to do a little bit of makeup, apply an unhealthy amount of lip gloss, making my lip really pop. I laid my edges, making sure the curly tips of my short hair ware still intact. I smiled to myself, through the dress up mirror in my cupboard. With that, I got out of the room, dialing Esse's number. She picked on the fourth ring, telling me that they were waiting for me at the edge of the hallway. I nodded as I replied her, "Okay." And then began to make my way for where they were.
Joseph was also just arriving, when I arrived.
"Let's move ugh," Amarachi complained as she rubbed her belly, bending a little.
We chuckled. "You just like food, that's all," Toyosi commented, making us laugh.
"Oh please, who doesn't like food?" Amarachi tried to defend herself.
We all laughed.
We got to the dining hall in almost no time all. It was on the ground floor, but we had to use the lift to it. It was like the rest of the place were. We got seated, occupying two table – six per table. A menu was brought to us, while we were still trying to figure out what we were supposed to do. They had up to six different breakfast meals. I settled for toast, scrambled eggs, beacon, and tea. We were served our foods with golden ware. It was beginning to seem like I was the only one that was seriously fazed by how things were been handle or how we were being treated, so I tried to tune it down and act like I wasn't too fazed.
We chatted bit by bit as we ate. While we were eating, it was announce through a speaker that all students were to be gathered together in the hall, for the 'Socializing' session. I wasn't really excited about it, remembering how Tosin had put me in my place earlier. After begin seated aimlessly for a while, we decided it was high time we left and went to the hall.
When we got to the hall, it was crowed and loud. People were talking to each other here and there, actually really socializing. There was a bar section, but I was pretty sure there weren't any alcohol there. We were all still hanging out together and talking, it was like we weren't interested in socializing at all. "It's like Ebun's got herself an admirer," Alimah said with a smile, making my brow furrow.
"Huh?" I asked in total confusion.
She smiled and nodded toward the bar, making the entire group turn. I sighed to myself as I saw the guy from the night before. Gosh! We had made it so obvious. He smirked, as he striked a wide grin. My hand went to my head with a sigh. "Seriously?" I asked. "Why did we have to make it so obvious it was him we were looking at?"
They all began to laugh at me. "It's so sweet to see you embarrassed," Collins said with a laugh, making the rest join him.
I scoffed. "Embarrassed? Me? Pfft, I'm not."
"Oh no, you are Dear. It's so obvious," Joseph added, making me scoff again.
"If you're so sure you're not embarrassed, then go talk to him," Toyosi confronted me, making everyone face me, expectantly.
After hesitating for a while, I replied with so much confidence, "Challenge accepted." Forgetting all about the pep talk I had had with myself, after Tosin had put me in my place earlier. I began to walk towards where he was, without stealing glances at them.
I sat down on the stool next to him. He had a wide smile on, as I sat down. I was about to speak, when he said, "Jiggy uh?"
Realizing what he was talking about, I looked down at my t-shirt and smile. "Jiggy, yeah." I replied with a smile, making him smile even wider, that I began to assume the side of his lips hurt.
"You look really good," he commented. "And smell really good too," he added, making me blush. That was the best comment a person could ever give me, and he did perfect at that.
"Not at good as you look and smell though," I said with a smile, making him smile more.
We were a smiling mess, when the bartender said, "What would you like to have ma'am?"
My eyes involuntarily went to what he was having, it looked like a mix of different things and had a brownish color. "What do you guys have?" I asked as I looked up at the bartender.
He smiled. "We have different type of soft drinks, different type of lemonade, and you can ask for a mix of whatever you want."
I nodded to his words. "Chill," I commented with a chuckle. "I'd have plain lemonade," I said.
He nodded, he then grabbed a jar, added ice into it. He poured lemonade into it, adding mint leave to the top of it, he placed cucumber by the edge of the jar, slipping a small straw into it. He then, dropped it right in front of me with a smile. "Enjoy."
I smiled. "Thank you." I nodded to him as I sipped from it. I hmm-ed as it coldness hit the inside of my throat, almost moaning out load. It was then I realized I actually needed that. "So, your first time here?" I asked him, as I took a longer draw from the drink.
He chuckled and shook his head. "No, for up to two to three years now."
"Ah." I nodded my head. "So, how is it like?"
"It's actually really fun and exciting. I anticipate it, to be very honest," he said with a wide grin, showing his excitement.
I smiled at his excitement, while he continued talking. We conversed for a really long while, that I didn't know when time had passed. I was engrossed, and I enjoyed every bit of it.
It wasn't until my phone began to vibrate in my pocket, and I had brought it out to pick up the call, that I realized time had gone. It was already 2:30 p.m, and it was Collins who was calling me. "It's lunch time, Lover Girl," he said at the other end of the line, making me smile widely.
"I have to go now," I told him with a smile.
He nodded. "See you later ..." he paused, giving me a questioning look, showing he wanted to know my name.
I smiled, realizing we hadn't asked each other for our names the whole time. "Ebun."
"Ebunoluwa," he paraphrased, making me nod. "Khalid," he said as he stretched his hands for a handshake. I smiled and took it, but couldn't withdraw as he held on to it. His palm were so soft, I almost melted where I stood. "So, see you around?"
"Maybe."
I chuckled.
With that, I withdrew my hand and had begun to walk away. I was about to call Collins, when I sighted them and smiled.
They all had wide grins as I approached. 'The girls' all hmm-ed when I arrived. "Nice one sis," Collins commented.
"Oh, please," I tried to dilute the situation, but they were not having it. We began to make our way to the dining hall, but they didn't shut up a second about how this or that, and how they had been watching me. About how I was blushing, and was engrossed in his face rather than the talk. I couldn't help smiling as they teased. They were clowns.
But maybe, just maybe. I could give feelings another shot.
