CHAPTER 13
It was Monday again.
It was traditional attire day. Everyone was dressed in their traditional way. I wore a creamish oleku, with a army green purse and Aso Oke alongside gold heels, wristwatch, bracelet, and necklace. Everyone was to converge in the hall after breakfast, a full traditional program had been planned out for us. The entire squad and myself had all gathered in the hall and had already been seated. We had sat down at our usual spot at the back. I felt that we had unconsciously began to make ourselves know, because we always sat there, and also always tried to keep our space at the dining also. I felt that, one day, some people would intentionally go seat there.
The hall was a little rowdy and noisy, when all of a sudden silence fell and people began to turn back. As presumed, it was Khalid that had walked. I had never seem him in such light before. He was dressed like an actual Yoruba prince. He had his royal beads on, white Agbada, with white fila. He looked so pure. He even had beads on his ankle, but he had shoes on. Wine suede shoes. I could almost swear that my jaw dropped. The noise arose again as people began to side talk. It was that moment that it struck me that, he did always have his wrist beads on. Omo Oba!
"Show off," someone had said in the roll in front of us.
I really didn't want to react to what anyone had to say about him, but I found myself being unconsciously protective. "Shut your jealous broke arse, ugh." I thought I had mutter, but the person seemed to have heard me, as a group of girls turn back to my direction.
I looked away like I wasn't the one who had spoken, making them turn face their front. "Isn't that the girlfriend?" one said lowly.
"Yes, it's the wannabe girlfriend," another replied in such a way that it was obvious she wanted me to hear.
I scoffed. "Less privileged," I replied, making Toyosi and Esse who were seating beside me to chuckle.
"You're mean," Toyosi commented, making me shrug like I didn't know what I had said.
The girl was seriously pained, so she started to throw abusive words, but I shut her out and acted like no one was speaking, which only made her madder. She was about to turn back and start abusing me to my face, when someone tapped me gently, making me turn back. It was Khalid.
"Hey," he whispered with a smile.
"Hey," I replied with a smile.
"Meet the guys," he said, seating back a little so I could see the guys that were seating beside him. They were the guys who always hang around him. They were really good looking. One was really light skinned, with light freckles. While the other was brown skinned. I almost drooled like a fool at the sight of them. "This is Samuel," he said, pointing to the brown skinned one.
"Hey." His voice was really deep I almost melted where I was seating.
"Hey," I replied in a calm voice, with a smile.
"And, this is Emmanuel," he pointed to the other guy.
"Hey," he replied with a smile.
I smiled back. "Hey."
"Nice to meet you," Samuel said.
I nodded. "And you too."
"He won't shut up about you," Emmanuel added, making Samuel laugh.
"Shut up," Khalid jumped in, trying to hide his blush. "Can I come seat beside you? Would your friend allow me?"
Esse didn't let me reply, as she quickly replied, "Sure."
My eyes went wide as I chuckled. I didn't even know she was listening. "You this girl," I said with a smile.
She shrugged and stood up, so did Khalid, and they exchanged seats. Immediately he settled down beside me, I almost wanted to hug him and never let him go. He smelt so nice. Ugh! The girls who were blabbing before turned back, quickly turn to their front back. I could see a frown on the one who had almost faced me to abuse me face. I scoffed. Jealous thing. The guys had begun to pass me glances, making me realize I had to do my own introduction too. "Guys," I said in a clear voice, drawing their attention – which was already drawn before I attempted. "This is Khalid." I pointed at him. "And Khalid, this is Toyosi, Soma, Amarachi, Science, Aisha, Alimah, Adijah. And the one who stood up for you is Esse."
He smiled, then waved. "Nice to meet you all."
"And you too," Toyosi replied for them all with a smile.
He turned back and then waved to Esse. She smiled at him and waved back. And it was then I began to feel really bad for her. She wasn't really social, so I didn't know how to socialize or talk to new people. I turned to back to see if she was okay. Samuel was already engaging her in a conversation, making her smile. He seemed like a really funny guy.
Khalid's soft and warm palm dragged me back into reality as he took mine hand and intertwined it with his. I smiled to him, as he smiled back at.
The captain came on the podium, and the program began. Traditional dances were entertained from different cultures. After that, there was a performance for the history or different states or cultures. There was random dramas also. We laughed, felt sad during the history part, and experienced a lot. It was a really nice program.
Khalid didn't leave my hands all through, even when snacks was brought, he used his left hand to eat. He was so cute. He didn't let me go until the program was over and we had to leave for lunch. So, we parted.
The guys didn't let me rest about how cute he was, how good looking and friendly he was. And they're words, only seemed to deepening my feelings for him.
A part of me what scared, but another was really glad that something so surreal was happening to me. Maybe there was hope.
Maybe, just maybe.
