Survive like us
"Shit," a twenty three year old man jumped the fence as he had a group of men chasing after him. A scar covering his left eye and majority of the one side of his face, his black hair covered some of the scar and tickled his eyes. He landed in the heavy snow and ran around the corner hoping to loose them.
"Zuko you bastard!" One of the men screamed and he ran faster to find a crowd hopefully.
"Fuck!" Zuko yelled as a car slammed into a stop against him and the young adult landed in the snowy street on his back.
"Really? Again?" His sister walked over from the car annoyed and grabbed his backpack.
"Did you hit me with the car?" He wheezed with his eyes closed.
Azula opened his bag and dumped everything out, clothes, knifes, two guns and ammo, money, multiple ID's.
"Almost looks like your running away Zuzu," azula looked down at him boredly as she dropped his bag in the snow.
"You know why, I'm getting out of this city before it kills me," Zuko huffed as the icy air made his breath visible, pushing himself to sit up.
"You're funny if you think it's that easy, fathers back," she offered him a hand up. The older sibling got up to his feet without her help and brushed the snow off his pants.
"Where is he?" He asked quietly.
"Home," she sighed crossing her arms.
"Fine, but I'm keeping my bag," Zuko went to start picking up everything that fell out.
Azula waited as she looked around sharply on high alert, she held a knife in her hand as she could feel something was changing in the air, she got in the car on the drivers side and Zuko got in the passengers side, they both knew something the world wasn't ready for.
Zuko held his bag in his lap and looked behind him wide eyes seeing their father in the back seat.
"Took you long enough boy," a man in a black suit sat calmly. His hair was silky, jet black and long but half was pulled back to keep out of his face.
"You said he was back at home," Zuko hissed at his sister.
"I lied," she smiled proudly. He looked at her unamused but faced ahead to watch the road.
"I have news for both of you," Ozai glared as he leaned back.
"The avatar escaped,"
Both of his children stayed silent, both surprised, Zuko kept his hands in his lap but clenched tightly, Azulas knuckles were white as they gripped the steering wheel.
"So what does that mean now..?" Zuko whispered looking out the window.
"There's a bounty out on him already but chaos has started, I want his head on a platter back in my headquarters," Ozai glared at them.
"We can't kill him.." Zuko huffed crossing his arms.
"If that what it comes too then yes we can," Ozai barked making him jump.
"Because if he's out there with the virus spreading then you might as well kill your self now, in a week no one is going to be alive, and that fucker alive out there were screwed!" Ozai raised his voice making both of his children stiffen in their seats.
"I want you both to be the ones that get him back, if the avatar is alive he won't be for long," he sneered at them.
"I know at least one of you won't disappoint,"
Zuko glanced at his sister as she kept her eyes ahead, Azula glanced over only seeing her brothers scarred face. It's not the first time they've been sent on a hunt, and not the first time zukos disappointed their father. She refused to disappoint if that's what her punishment would be.
"We're on it father," Azula nodded.
"Good, drop me off here," Ozai looked outside and Azula stopped the car.
"Oh and kids, if I don't see that kid at my office by the end of the week, I'll assume your dead, the end of the worlds coming and people like me are the only ones that are going to survive it," he smiled at them before slamming the car door close.
Azula immediately took off in the car as snow started to fall from the grey clouded sky.
"You know what's coming right?" Azula whispered.
"It's a mutation, I finished my science classes in high school," Zuko spat glaring at her.
"No... Zuko father is right, it's the end of the society, the poor will suffer and die, and the rich will stay fat and happy in a bunker," she sighed shaking her head narrowing her eyes.
"It's a virus, doesn't matter how rich you are, if it's what we've been preparing for then no one can buy their way out of death," he gripped his shirt concentrating on his breathing.
"It's going to be rabid," Azula huffed leaning her head back as she drove.
Zuko looked at the people on the streets and saw a homeless woman drop on the ground with some other homeless seeing if she was okay. Zuko pursed his lips and cussed under his breath, he knew what was coming but no one was ready.
If he had a week left it wasn't going to be under his fathers fist.
"Please, be careful Azula," Zuko looked at her sadly.
"I'm always careful, I'm plenty smarter than you," she scoffed rolling her eyes.
"Good, keep it up," and immediately Zuko unbuckled himself and opened the car door as he rolled out of the car as Azula screamed surprised and swerved the car.
Zuko looked up seeing the car spinning around. He slipped on the snow trying to get on his feet, holding his bag to his chest.
There was a shriek in the distance of pure fear. The screams traveled and more and more people began to follow their instincts, fight or flight.
Because those who collapsed rose again but starving.
This was the beginning of the end. How cheesy. How interesting to see it start.
Zuko ran down the road but it seemed as if the world was in slow motion.
He looked ahead seeing a family walking out of an apartment, their child collapsed coughing up blood as he laid curling in a ball while blood dropped off their chin and lips. The father saw Zuko running as his wife and daughter screamed and cried over the boy. The father held the door open a moment long enough for Zuko to grab it and slip inside the apartment.
He ignored the screams outside and started knocking on any door that might be someone that could hide him for an hour.
"Hey! Hey let me in! I need help!" He yelled banging on a random door.
He gasped when it opened and he forced himself in and immediately slammed the door close behind him panting.
"Thank you so much I-" Zuko gulped but looked to see it was a young girl who must be around his age. She shook fearful backing away wide blue eyes as Zuko fell to one knee trying to catch his breath.
"W-what do you want?" She backed up and grabbed a base ball bat from a boy ish looking room.
"Hiding? I can't breath right now, give me a minute," he held his hand up to her as the girl held the bat tightly.
