Chapter 1
Laughter rang through a small pocket of woods on a small, secluded beach in the east coast of Australia. This beach was empty of people, atypical to the many popular beaches that habited the same coast side. This particular pocket of beach resided on the side of the great ocean drive in from NSW to Victoria, where the owner of the bright laughter could live without any notice from police and locals.
Within the woods, A young girl with blond curly hair giggled again as a small black cat attempted to stand on their hind paws to reach at something she was raising above the cat's head. This girl's name is Alyss and as she looked up to the sky to gauge the time, she softly smiled to herself and scooped up the small struggling cat in her arms and softly whispered to the cat, "Shhhhhh Toby. We're going back now... Silver probably has something for us to eat."
The yowling cat settled within her arms and Alyss chuckled at the grumpy look on the cat.
They were silent as the pair walked towards a small, quaint treehouse on the edge of the beach and forest. Alyss let Toby onto the lower branches and watched the cat climbed the tree with inherent ease. Alyss scampered after the small black cat via a set of rungs drilled into the tree's hard trunk.
"Where have you been?" A voice from one of the small inner rooms demanded. "I've been waiting for ages!"
This new voice belonged to a smaller girl with bronze skin, who called herself Silver. She stalked, forward her long black hair swishing behind her in its single braid.
"I've already made dinner and Toby's food is in his bowl," she continued, "Oscar has already been fed and is now sleeping because you were so late!"
Alyss knew better than to protest at Silver's worried ranting knowing that the younger girl did care but found it hard to say.
"Sorry Sil, I'll be sure not to worry you next time." Replied Alyss as she walked to the small dining table in the middle of the large treehouse.
At that, Silver hid a small smile by turning away but Alyss saw that small upturn of her lips and smiled to herself.
"C'mon Sil! Admit it! You were worried about me!" Alyss crowed.
"Not at all you idiot, I was worried that my food would get cold," Silver said with a complete deadpan look on her face. The two girls stared at each other for a few more minutes when the both of them burst out laughing.
"Just make sure not to worry me ok?" Asked out Silver from between her laughs, "I was worried that someone found us!"
"Don't worry Sil, I just stayed out a bit longer and got distracted by Toby. Besides, you know for some reason no one can get in here. This place is ours alone!" Replied Alyss after she had calmed down.
The two girls smiled at each other and then sat down for dinner at the small table.
Over their small and simple meal of rice and vegetables, Alyss asked, "Do you ever think that we can find someone else like us?"
Frowning in confusion, Silver asked, " What do you mean?"
For a few minutes, Alyss struggled to convey what she meant, "Like, do you ever think that we could find anyone as... I don't know... Abnor-"
"Don't you dare say that word." Silver's unexpectedly steely voice cut through though she looked smaller than usual as she curled herself into a small ball. "We're not freaks."
Alyss's gaze softened, "Yeah we're not. I meant people who have our kind of powers, see monsters and like that... I mean those monsters haven't bothered us since we moved here, but I can see them lurking in the corners of the beach."
The two of them sat in silence for a while.
Silver lifted her head and smiled a soft smile yet she was still yet to uncurl from the tight ball she had wound herself into. "Sorry for snapping. And... Who knows? We could... one day."
Pulling her arms above her head, Alyss smiled, "That's a story for another day. Let's just watch something and go to bed."
Uncurling herself, Silver said nothing as she stood. The two of them smiled at each other and walked off to their shared room.

Hey!
So I know that I haven't been active at all on wattpad, and that's because I'm entering the really critical years before my Uni so I have to focus on studying. Even so, I decided that the way that I wrote the original Earthhaker doesn't really leave room for a decent plot so I decided to revise it; also my writing style has improved. I am going to have REALLY slow updates from now on, so you can expect better quality updates instead. I will be focusing more on my originals and shorts, so any fanfic will take a while to update out. Even then, My Reading Ranger's apprentice fanfic takes priority (I say as my best friend and I flesh out a new fanfiction). Anyway, I hope you all survived the COVID-19 pandemic and that if you are in NSW right now like me, that you are safe from the floods, and to anyone who lost anyone from any of those, I hope you and your family are doing alright and are coping. I'll see you later!
~ Silver
