Chapter 2 - A new shadow
Another sun is raising, cold air warming by the minutes, alltogether giving a new breath into the brand new but dead silent city -New Home-.
The place was huge, in the center was erected a huge obelisk in memory for the dead during the space war. No names were engraved on it but as you get closer multiple dots on its surface will project on your lens short videos of the war, names of lost ones, and if you touch it you will hear their voices.
Now five shuttles were parked around the place, a table was set at the front of the bar. Captain Oro arrived in last after locking down the HOD.
"At least! Fresh air! My brain and lungs are in ecstasy!" says Captain Oro slowing walking toward the table his arms stretched, feeling the wind between every crook of his old body.
Jane, Mag and Soro were sat at the table, enjoying the fresh breeze. The bar's door slid and Nikos came out with a few glasses and one bottle that he placed on the table. After sitting down he says: "Hi Captain. I hope you like the place. For the drink i would like to keep it simple. I don't want to power up a capital just to have a drink, so here is a bottle of my own alcohol"
"Nice initiative Nikos" answers Captain Oro who was now standing in front of the table.
"As a first i would like to thank you all, again and forever, for your hard work all theses years.
My great-great-great grandmother started this dream called HOD, and now here we are on a new soil, a new start for humanity and hopefully not the last! In a few hours our compatriots will land and we will be finally relieved of duty for a long and deserved vacation. Until then, let's enjoy the moment!" closes Captain Oro before taking a seat back against the statue blocking the raising sunlight.
Everything started slowly and shyly. It was the first time in years they were so close to each others, but the alcohol succeeded in melting the walls. Jokes, swears, laughs the crew was venting all their stress.
"Take another glass guys. You guys always hanging with spares brains? A little more alcohol won't kill you? Or are you afraid to lose your heads?" laughs Jane, drunk, to Mag and Soro while Nikos was chuckling in his beard.
"They are not spare brains, they all are part of my whole intellect. That is the power of brain clustering!", answers Mage his eyes glowing with passion.
"Yep! Without this technology, my little drones wouldn't have created these huge cities out of dust" chains Soro with the same glowing eyes, while one of his drones start dandling in the air behind him.
"Arh! Drop this ugly thing out of my sight!" yells Nikos at the sight of the arachnoid looking drone.
"Come on old man, it's not that ugly" says Jane.
"Don't talk about defining beauty with me Jane! Most of your creation are just fuel for nightmares!" yells Nikos with a serious look.
Everyone laughs loudly, closes their eyes. Captain Oro looks down on the table and suddenly see his shadow, intrigued he gives a quick look behind. The obelisk had disappeared. He jumped off his seats, turns back immediately to his crew and all the shadows were now overwhelmed by the obelisk.
"Did you see it? The Obelisk disappeared!" says alarmed Captain Oro. He stands up, breaths loudly.
The smiles on the crew faces slowly fade. They knew Captain Oro and when he was losing his shit everything was bound to be a wreck.
