True cross

(Your point of view)

It's been a year since I moved to Japan and I'm still trying to process what I saw that day.

*flashback*

I had just moved to Japan to get a better education at a prestigious private school and because I was not welcome in my home country. I was an athiest and, by nature, was naturally curious about the word. That had made me want to pursue a career in science.

I was just leaving a local market when I saw a sudden burst of blue from the nearby monastery. It wasn't that far away, so I ran. I ran all the way there to get a peak at the chaos. There was fire emitting from the monastery. Blue fire flickering in every direction. I approached a window, trying not to get burned. I looked inside and saw something unbelievable. The man that ran the monastery was dead - stabbed himself with a small ornament. I had talked to the guy a few times when passing by; we mostly discussed religion and he was insistent on the fact that demons and the devil were real. I never believed him.

On the ground was some kind of gate that moved. It was also the source of the blue flames. There was a boy who looked about my age, maybe a bit older, engulfed in the blue flames. They roared all around his body, most prominent on his head. It was like the flames had formed horns on his head. He held a sword in his hands and plunged it into the gate. I had seen enough. I ran. I ran and ran. All the way back to my apartment.

I began to pray at the monastery from that day forth. I heard rumours that the blue flames were a sign of Satan. Although I was an athiest, it frightened me. And you can't argue with facts. That was a primary source right in front of my eyes. I had encountered the devil. The men who worked there laughed at me, they thought it was comical how I became religious so quickly. I never told them why. At one point, they heckled me enough to get an answer out of me. I told them I was scared of demons, that I saw them and that I'd kill them if I knew how. They didn't laugh at me. They believed me and suggested a school called True Cross Academy. Supposedly it teached you exorcism.

I also saw demons from that day forth.

I got burned outside the window.

I could see them everyday.

*flashback ended*

It's been a year since that day and nine months since they suggested the academy. I had finally decided to go there. I had just boarded the train and was making my way there. The image of the boy crossed my mind. Was he possessed? Killed? Is he a demon? I shook my head. Hopefully he's not possessed, not a demon and wasn't killed. That would be the best outcome in my opinion. I looked out the train window and was greeted with the view of True Cross Academy. I still can't believe all of this. Well I can but I can't. It's insane. Everything has just been a mess ever since I moved to Japan. Demons, exorcism and Satan. I never would have thought.

The train came to a stop. Guess we're at the station. I departed the train station and wondered towards the school. There was a girl with short blond hair waiting for me. "Hi, I'm Moriyama. Shiemi Moriyama. Nice to meet you," she greeted. She lowered her head. "(L/n). (F/n) (l/n), nice to meet ya." I greeted in return. I held out my hand to her. She gave me a confused look. "Sorry. I'm not from Japan. I moved here about a year ago and I never really engaged with people," I apologised. I followed her example and bowed my head. "Oh no, it's okay! Don't worry about it," Shiemi hastily said. "I'll take you to our room. We're sharing Ms (l/n)." I followed her to the dormitories. "By the way, you can just call me (y/n). No need to be so formal because we're going to become great friends!" I proclaimed. She gave me a smile. "Yeah, I hope so." Shiemi murmured.

"Don't just hope. I know we will. You seem like a really nice, great person! Of course we'll become friends," I told her. "You think?" She asked. I shook my head in response. "No. I know so," I stated with a grin. "I have cram school right now. I'm sorry. I'll see you after," Shiemi explained before rushing out the room. Five past... she must be late. "Bye Shiemi," I chuckled. I started to unpack. Clothes, books and other things I need. I placed my books on my bed and began to study. I was an athiest only a year ago. I barely know anything about exorcism. Better start studying hard because everyone else my age will probably be... I glance at the hierarchy of exorcists in my book. Exwires. I want to catch up as quick as possible.
