Here are some fun and interesting facts you might not have known about Ear to the Serpent:

• Maya was based on me in terms of her timid
personality, her habit of overthinking,
and her luck with love. I have not been so lucky
to meet a Lorenne yet though, ha.

• Lorenne was in fact based on a girl
I had a crush on in high school.

• Lorenne is pansexual; though it wasn't
mentioned explicitly.

• Valdez wasn't intended to play such
a significant role.

• No one was supposed to die at the end,
but the idea popped into my head after
I realised that not everyone gets
a 'happy ending' and I didn't want any
chance of a sequel.

• Valdez was reincarnated after
everyone died, so maybe he'll pop up again
somewhere else, who knows...

• Huehuecoyotl will never forgive
Maya, nor get over her.

• Quetzalcoatl will never stop looking for
Maya's mother's soul.

• They never found the bodies, obviously,
but many years after the incident a mysterious
labyrinth-like system of tunnels was found to
lead to an almost empty room,
except for an intact fountain in the middle.

• Lorenne and Maya would have started
dating if they had lived on, and later mothered
two cats —and a golden retriever.

• Lorenne and Maya exist between nowhere
and somewhere. And are happy.
