Moira usually didn't like speaking through the phone. She felt like she sounded weird and she liked being face to face while talking. You could see what people wasn't telling. If what they were saying was sincere, otherwise through just voice you couldn't tell honesty.
But somehow with Lois Lane, Moira could tell her emotions through just her voice.
"I know we are competition, but she's a good reporter and won't get a congratulations from me" Lois, Clark's long term girlfriend said through the phone as Moira rearranged some paperwork, "You work for her. Couldn't you say something to her?"
"And risk losing my job?" Moira asked as if thinking about it, "I love you. I truly do. But, you don't know her as a boss. You'd have to email her a 'congrats, you beat me for the first time in years for the Siegel Prize' email'. I won't be a messenger dove"
Lois chuckled, "Had to try. So, how things are in National City? I heard the alien attacks rate has increased since Supergirl made an appearance"
Moira paused, "To be honest, I kinda feel a little relieved. Things here aren't as different from the ones in Metropolis. I like the familiarity"
"Of alien attacks" Lois deadpanned; Moira could practically picture her raising an eyebrow.
Moira laughed, "Oh, shush, you know what I mean"
"I know, but can't your friend worry about you?" Lois asked.
"Sure you can, when said friend's not a spy for the brother to check on his sister" Moira replied.
"Okay, you caught me" Lois admitted, "Clark trusts you in there but he worries sometimes"
"I can take care of myself" Moira told her.
"I know" Lois agreed, "But I missed you. So this was a selfish call. Just for myself and to check on my own baby sister"
"Lucy's fine" Moira reassured, placing a bunch of photos on a folder. "She's trying to win James back though"
"Ah" Lois clicked her tongue. "Figured"
Suddenly the ground shook making everyone shout in alarm and panic.
Moira grabbed the table to keep herself standing, "Woah"
"What was that?!" Lois exclaimed. "An earthquake?"
The rumbling stopped slowly.
"Maybe" Moira answered, discreetly lowering her glasses as she used her X-ray vision to try and find out the source. It was a building not too far away that was crumbling to the ground. A bomb had exploded it. "Lois, gotta go"
Without waiting for a response, Moira hung up, pushing her glasses upwards, turning around, seeing Winn making his way to her, holding his phone.
"Supergirl's on it" Winn informed. Moira got closer, watching the live news streaming. "It was a bomb"
They exchanged a look, looking down at the phone.

"Wait, so Kara's a babysitter now?"
Moira and Winn were sitting by Winn's desk, watching Cat's son Carter being in her office.
Kara had offered to watch him over while Cat received her prize. Kara had been late after stopping the bombed building from collapsing and being at the DEO and brought him to CatCo's.
"Yup" Winn had a teasing smile as they both watched Kara try to connect with the teenager.
"Ooh, someone has a crush" Moira smirked when she heard Carter say Supergirl's name with a longing sigh.
Winn frowned as he couldn't hear them or see them properly, "What? Crush on who? Uh, Kara?"
"Supergirl" Moira answered, listening intently at Carter and Kara, sniggering "How cute"
Winn shook his head, "Seriously, how can you hear them?"
Winn stood, walking closer to them.
Moira's smile faded, realizing late her mistake. She was practically exposing herself to Winn. However he wasn't still getting it. She didn't know wether to feel offended or not for that. She cleared her throat, following after Winn as Kara realized the same Moira did, smiling slightly.
"Carter, do you maybe have a little crush on Supergirl?" Kara asked, smiling.
"You got good taste, kid" Winn told him.
"This is my friend Winn" Kara told him, then looking at Moira "And my cousin, Moira"
Moira waved slightly. "Hey"
"You're Supergirl fan, huh?" Winn asked, lowering his voice to whisper "You know, I know her"
Moira raised her eyebrows, giving Kara a look.
"No, you don't" Carter told him, skeptically.
"No, you don't" Kara told him pointedly, widening slightly her eyes.
Winn realized what he said, stammering "I mean, like, I feel like I know her" Kara nodded. Moira smiled in amusement, looking down "Because she's always there for people. You know, she's helping out. Saving those who need saving"
Kara smiled sweetly, sarcastically, "Yeah"
Winn smiled sheepishly, chuckling "Uh, especially those who, um, have run out of staples"
Winn was staring toward Car's office.
Kara, Moira and Carter followed his gaze, curious.
James was slamming the stapler harshly on the desk.
Kara immediately walked inside to stop him.
The sigh coming from Winn made Moira look toward him sympathetically.
"I'm glad I don't have an important job like James does" Moira told them, nodding slightly "That way I don't get so stressed like he is"
"Hurrah" Winn murmured, turning around, sitting back on his desk, leaving Moira alone with Carter.
Moira smiled awkwardly when Carter turned to face her "So, do you like video games?"
Carter tilted his head, "Yes"
Moira nodded, biting her lip, "Cool" When Kara walked out of Cat's office, Moira brightened up in relief, "Kara, hey. Look, I have work to do-"
"Could you help me watch him? Pretty please" Kara pleaded. Moira deflated, pouting, slightly nodding. Kara smiled brightly, "Just for a few minutes while I go to Digital and Finances. I won't take too long"
"Fine" Moira murmured.
Kara walked away.
Moira tilted her head upwards, taking a deep breath, turning back to a curious and slightly amused Carter.
"Those are your friends?" Carter asked, raising his eyebrows. "They're bossy over you"
"And I thought you were shy" Moira countered making the teenager blush. "Come on, my brother downloaded this game the other day I think you're gonna like"
Moira placed her hands on Carter's shoulders, turning him around, leading him inside his mom's office.
~8~
To be honest, Moira had no problem on babysitting Carter. He was well behaved but slightly annoying with his questions once he warmed up to her and felt confident about it. She took her work from the Art office to keep an eye on him while Kara helped James in covering Cat's work for her.
When Kara walked in, Carter was talking to Moira about the game with Moira answering the questions and guiding him where he got stuck.
"Normally I don't like puzzle games" Carter commented as he found an object on the game "They're boring but, surprisingly this one is stimulating and hasn't bored me yet"
"The Lost Land games may be old but they get you entertained" Moira told him, smiling, pointing to an object he hadn't seen. Carter sighed in thanks, clicking the object. "Trust me, I've spent hours on a scene just to get a puzzle done because I didn't want to try out the hints"
"Hints make it lose the essence of the game" Carter replied.
Moira nodded in agreement. "Exactly"
"Look at you two" Kara told them, smiling in slight amusement, placing some papers and folders on the desk in front of them. "Friends already?"
"She's cool" Carter replied, not looking up from the screen, seeming a little more shy with Kara.
Moira nudged his shoulder when she noticed Kara's smile falter slightly. Carter turned to Moira, questionably.
Moira smiled slighlty. "Thanks. Kara's nice too, you know?"
Carter shrugged, glancing up at Kara, "I guess"
Kara sighed.
Moira gave her an apologetic look.
That's when James walked inside the office, a little hurry and frantic. "Kara, do you have the live..."
Kara turned to him, picking up some papers, giving them to him "Oh, uh, live, plus seven-day ratings for the Midwest satellite stations. There"
Carter looked up, impressed for all she managed in less than hour.
"Thank you" James told her, glancing at Carter. "Um, how you doing?"
"Handling" Kara answered. "Digital called, sounds like you are, too"
James winked, smiling slightly, walking away.
Kara nodded slightly, awkwardly.
Carter looked between Moira and Kara, "That guy knows Superman, right?"
"Yes, he does" Kara answered.
"Do you think he could get Superman to introduce me to Supergirl?" Carter asked hopefully, looking up at Kara.
Moira looked at Kara, pursing her lips to hold back her chuckle.
Kara tilted her head, chuckling "You are definitely your mother's son" Her phone rang, answering it "Yeah, what's up?"
Moira could hear Alex at the other line "I am at Lord Tech with a bomb that is gonna go off in a minute"
Kara looked at Moira, knowing she was listening.
Moira nodded, mouthing 'Go'
"On my way" Kara told her, hanging up. "Carter, um... I have an emergency errand to run"
Carter shrugged, "Moira's gonna stay here, right?"
"Yeah, I am" Moira answered.
Carter nodded, waving at Kara. "I'll be fine"
Moira raised her eyebrows amused, looking down.
Kara walked away, leaving.
"Don't be so harsh on her, she helps your mom a lot" Moira told him.
"I know" Carter nodded slightly, putting pause on the game, putting up the newsfeet of Max Lord's new train. "It's weird though"
"Your mom's my boss too" Moira pointed out, "Isn't that weird too?"
"Weren't you hired like a week ago?" Carter asked.
"Yes" Moira answered, frowning slightly.
Carter shrugged, watching the news on his laptop "Then you're not afraid of my mom that much to treat me like a normal kid, not like a kid that needs to be treated like royalty to get my mom's approval"
Moira raised her eyebrows "That's what you think?"
"You're not the first of my mom's emplooyes to babysit me" Carter told her. "Kara may be nice but she's still mom's assistant. And I can't yet find that neutral ground between us"
Moira nodded slowly as if understanding, "What if I tell you there's someone else here who could treat you like a normal kid?"
Carter looked at her curiously. "There is?"
Moira looked toward where Winn was siting. Carter followed her gaze.
As if sensing their eyes, Winn looked up from his computer.
Moira gave him a pleading look, flickering her eyes at Carter.
Winn looked between her and the kid, briefly shaking his head, widening slightly his eyes in panic.
"Wait here a moment" Moira told Carter, standing, making her way to Winn. Winn immediately whirled his chair away from her when he saw her coming. "Winn-"
"I'm not good with kids" Winn told her immediately.
Moira picked up a toy from Winn's desk, raising her eyebrows in disbelief "You're like a kid yourself. Your desk is covered with toys"
"They are not toys" Winn told her defensively, grabbing the toy from her hands. Moira raised her hands in innocence "They are adult collectibles"
"Come on, for me?" Moira placed her hands together "Well, do it for Kara. I'll tell her you were really good with Carter and that may get you a dazzling bright smile from her. Just for you"
Winn paused, considering. After a moment, he groaned, standing up "You're evil, did you know that?"
Moira smiled in victory though she hid it from Winn, nodding seriously "I've been told, yes" She grabbed his arm, dragging him toward where Carter was still watching the report about Lord's event that night of his train. "Carter, remember Winn?"
Carter looked up, nodding "Yeah"
"He also loves games, don't you Winn?" Moira asked, giving him a smile.
"Yeah, yeah, I do" Winn nodded, slowly turning to face all the screen on Cat's office, "In fact. I have an idea"
Moira and Carter looked at him curiously.
Winn smiled.
~8~
Winn's idea had definetely entertained Carter. Winn had put up a game on Cat's screens and they both played for several rounds.
"Thank you" Moira whispered at Winn as she walked past him.
Winn glanced at her over his shoulder, flashing her a thumb up "No problem. We're gonna crash them all, aren't we, boy?"
"Yes!" Carter exclaimed happily, his eyes stuck on the screen.
Winn laughed, shaking his head, "You can rest easy. I got this"
Moira smiled, knowing he did as she walked away, toward her office.

Moira helped James in what she could which earned her some free hours. James told her to leave early and once she made sure Winn and Carter were okay, she left home.
She was having dinner while watching the news about Lord's super train when her phone rang.
Without taking her eyes off the screen, Moira picked it up, answering "Hello?"
"Carter's gone" Winn's voice came from the phone.
Moira chocked on her food, coughing out, punching her chest, "What?!"
"I went to get pizza and when I got here, he wasn't here anymore" Winn told her, sounding panicked.
"Winn" Moira snapped in worry, standing up. The news feature caught her attention. They were talking about if Supergirl could be in the launching because of the bombings. "Do you remember how much he wanted to meet Supergirl?"
Winn sucked in a deep breath in realization, "Oh, no" Moira picked up her jacket and shoulder bag. "Do you think he went there to meet Supergirl?"
"What do you think?" Moira asked, opening her door, walking out of her apartment, "I'll meet you there" She hung up, "You're gonna be the death of me, kid"

Moira for once in a long time wasn't afraid to use her powers, flying to the train station making sure to stay out of the light or possible cameras, landing on an alley close by the station, fixing her side braided hair and her glasses as she made her way inside, realizing she had gotten in time to see the people boarding the train.
She lowered slightly her glasses to try and find Carter with her X-ray vision when his voice reached her ears. She looked around to see him walking with Max Lord to the electrical stairs to board the train.
"No, no, no" Moira murmured to herself, looking around, walking toward them, on the way pickpocketing a woman for her ticket, murmuring under her breath "I'm really, really sorry" She made her way to Carter and Max. "Carter!"
Carter turned around at her voice, looking nervous, glancing at Max "Moira?"
The woman at the stairs stopped her, "Ticket?"
Moira handed her ticket, "Here"
The woman stepped aside to let her in.
"You're with him?" Max asked as Moira reached them.
"He's my brother" Moira answered before Carter could. She had heard them talking so she used Carter's excuse so Max wouldn't suspect them "Our parents had his ticket. They called me to let me know they lost sight of him"
Carter frowned.
Max nodded slightly, looking down at Carter "Well, at least you found someone of your family"
Moira nodded, passing an arm around Carter's shoulders, "Yeah, they were very worried. I was running late, that's why they called me to make sure he boarded safely"
Carter knew he had to follow up if he wanted in. After all he didn't really had a ticket nor his parents were up there. Moira had just saved him. "Yeah" He leaned against his babysitter, wrapping an arm around her as well.
It was when they boarded the train and the doors closed when Moira heard Winn's voice trying to get inside.
"I'm sorry" Moira murmured, glancing back at the doors.
Carter frowned up at her, whispering "Why are you here?"
"Are you kidding me?" Moira whispered furiously, "I'm your babysitter, well tecnhically it was supposed to be Kara but I was looking out for you. You ran away, that's my responsability to make sure you're okay"
"Or my mom will fire you" Carter said bitterly.
Moira stopped making him stop as she grabbed his shoulders, "Listen up, kid. I don't care if your mom fires me. I was working on my own before I was hired by her. I could easily get back into solo working and I have no problem with that. I'm not doing this because it benefits me, it's because I care about you" And that's when she realized it. How heroic she sounded. How easy it came to her. She shook her head to get rid of those thoughts, "We can still get out of this train and return to CatCo's before your mom gets a heart attack that you're not there"
A doble door opened in front of them and Max Lord turned to them before Carter had the chance to answer, "Welcome to the future, kids"
Carter shrugged off her arms as he walked past her and toward Max.
Moira stood at the door for a couple of minutes, enough for a man who stood from his seat to walk past her. He looked eager and somewhat shady that got her to follow him with her gaze. She narrowed her eyes, lowering slightly her glasses to check him over only to freeze when her X-ray vision caught a bomb under his large jacket.
"Oh, God" Moira murmured in alarm, turning around, stalking forward, grabbing Carter's arm, turning him to her.
"Hey" Carter complained, struggling against her surprisingly strong grip.
"You want to meet Supergirl, don't you?" Moira asked.
Carter stopped struggling, perking up "Yes"
"I know her" Moira told him, leaning closer. "Not like how Winn told you. Like how James, the guy from this morning knows Superman" Carter's eyes widened in awe. "I'm a photographer. I've taken Supergirl's photos up close"
"You have?!" Carter whisper shouted, grabbing her arms.
Moira opened her shoulder bag to show him her camera, clicking it on for him to see her latest Supergirl's photo. She hadn't given it to Cat or James yet as they had been busy.
Carter gasped in awe, grabbing the camera from her hands to see the photo better.
"Listen, if you get out of this train with me, I'll give you that photo just for you" Moira told him. Carter looked up in shock, his eyes widening in awe. "And next time I have to take Supergirl's photo, I'll try, not a promise but I'll try for Supergirl to meet you"
"You promise?" Carter asked.
"I said I'll try" Moira repeated, nodding "But only if you leave the train with me"
Carter nodded eagerly, returning her camera "Okay. Let's go"
Moira sighed in relief, putting her hand on his mid back, leading him to the entrance of the train. However, the doors were already closing.
They tried to get out but the door was about to click shut. Moira reached her hand out, considering using her super strenght to push it open when Carter pulled her back.
"We can't go out now" Carter pointed out, slightly freaking out.
Moira sighed in frustration, "Great"
Her phone beeped. It was a text from Winn. Carter's at the train. Couldn't stop him.
"We should get back to Mr. Lord" Carter told her. "After all, he still thinks I'm lost and he said he'd help me find my parents. If he realized I was lying..."
"I know" Moira told him, shaking her head. "Go ahead, I'm right behind you"
Carter nodded, starting to walk away, turning, walking backwards, "Are you going to give me that photo?"
Moira half smiled, "We made a deal, didn't we?"
Carter's lips stretched in a grin as he walked away to find Max.
Moira returned her attention to her phone, texting Winn. Yeah, about that...I'm on the train too. Found Carter. Couldn't get him out of there on time.
Moira locked her phone, following Carter. Immediately, another text came through. She looked down to see it was from Winn. There's a bomb!
"I know" Moira murmured, texting back. Crap. I guess it's up to Supergirl to save us.
Moira walked to where Carter found Max again and walked by their side. "Sorry, I had a call to make"
Max nodded slightly, "Just tell me if you two see your parents somewhere"
"With all due respect, Mr. Lord" Moira began, fixing her glasses up her nose, "I'm his sister. I'm an adult. I can take care of him and find our parents by myself"
Max gave a chuckle and a shake of his head, "Maybe, but what kind of host am I, if I don't help you two? Besides, I promised him. Promises shouldn't get broken, don't you think?"
Carter and Moira exchanged a look. The latter forcing a small smile, "No, you're right. I'm sorry, Mr. Lord. I appreciate your help"
Max smiled, "It's no problem"
The comport above them cracked open making the three of them turn around to see Supergirl getting inside, landing on the floor.
People gasped in awe and surpise, standing up to see the superhero.
Moira's relief was visible. "Supergirl"
Carter's eyes widened as he tightened his grip on Moira's hand.
Max laughed in slight shock, "I'm starting to think you have a thing for me"
"Ethan Knox is on board" Supergirl told him seriously.
Max's smile faded slightly, walking closer to her "No. That's impossible..."
"You have to stop this train" Supergirl told him lowly so people wouldn't listen.
"I can't" Max told her, "It's automated"
Moira could hear them without no problem, placing a hand on Carter's shoulder.
"Something's wrong, isn't it?" Carter asked.
Supergirl and Max turned to them.
Supergirl raised her eyebrows at Moira slightly.
Moira pursed her lips, sheepishly.
Supergirl looked at Carter, "There is a problem, but I'm here to fix it" She walked closer to them, grabbing Carter's shoulders, leaving the kid stunned and speechless, "You look brave and strong, can you help me?" Carter nodded wordlessly. "Good. I need you," She glanced at Moira, straightening, backing away "Her and Mr. Lord to get all of these passengers to the very back of the train. Are you ready to be a hero?"
Carter took a deep breath, squaring his shoulders, "Yes"
Supergirl nodded at him proudly.
Max gestured at the people around them to follow him "Let's go"
The people began to move, following Max.
Moira turned to Carter. "Go"
"But you heard her" Carter told her, "You have to help too"
"And I still have a job to do, don't I?" Moira smirked slightly. Carter looked at her incredulosly. "Okay, no. I'm not risking my life. I promise. I just need a quick word with her. Maybe a photo. But I need you to stick by Mr. Lord's side, okay? I'll be right behind you"
Carter frowned in concern but nodded, wrapping her arms around her neck, "Be careful"
Moira nodded, returning the embrace. "I will. Go"
Carter pulled away, following the evacuating people.
Once he was out of sight and there was no more people around, Supergirl grabbed her arm, turning her to face her. "You okay? What are you doing here?"
Moira pushed her glasses up her nose, "Making sure Carter was okay. I didn't know about the bomb, not until it was too late. I saw him, this Ethan Knox you mentioned. I tried getting Carter out of the train but it was too late to get out"
Despite of the situation, Supergirl gave her a small smile "Trying to be a hero, aren't you?"
Moira gave her a look, "Seriously? There's no time for that. You have a train to save, don't you?"
"Yes, and you have to make sure Carter's still safe, for the both of us" Supergirl told her, then groaned, "Ms. Grant will kill me"
"Supergirl" Moira snapped, giving her a pointed look.
Supergirl shook her arms and shoulders, "You're right. Not the time. Go"
Moira nodded, backing away as Supergirl walked toward to the other door. However, she pulled out her camera, snapping one photo before she walked away.
~8~
The train suddenly stopped.
Moira was trying to listen but Carter had his arms around her, feeling scared and needed comfort she couldn't concentrate.
All the people had been taken to the back of the train. The bomb exploding make a few of them jump and Moira to put a hand on her ear for the sudden sound that hurt her enhanced senses.
They looked toward the window where they could see the light of the flames.
Carter pressed his face on Moira's shoulder, "She did it. She saved us"
"She did" Moira agreed.
~8~
Next morning, at CatCo's. It was time for Carter to go home.
The rest of the night, he had spent it with both Moira and Kara, playing some games. Kara was so grateful with Moira for helping her that she gave a super hug to her adoptive cousin.
Kara and Moira made their way to the mother and son duo when it was time for Carter to go to school.
"Bye, buddy!" Kara told him, smiling "It was fun hanging out with you"
"Bye, Kara" Carter told her, hugging her tightly surprising the three women. He pulled away and hugged Moira too, "Bye, Mo"
Moira smiled, hugging back, pulling away, "Bye, kiddo"
Cat was looking at them, eyes slightly squinted.
Carter looked at Cat "Oh! Mom, Kara, Moira and I had an epic Nerf gun battle"
"Yeah, we did" Moira told them, smiling.
"And Kara knows how to play Settlers of Catan almost as well as you do" Carter told her. "Oh, and Moira gave me a Supergirl's exclusive photo from when she saved us on the train"
"Oh" Cat said, giving them both a look.
Kara and Moira smiled awkwardly.
"Can they watch me again?" Carter asked hopefully.
Cat smiled sweetly "I think you should hold on to those happy memories, sweetheart" Kara and Moira exchanged a small, nervous smile. Cat hugged her son "I love you. Have a good day at school. Go on. Bye!"
Carter walked away, waving at them, using Cat's elevator to leave. The three women had smiles on their faces, waving at them. As soon as he was gone, their smiles faded.
"Ms. Grant, I am so, so sorry" Kara told her as Cat walked away to pick up her purse and coat she dropped to greet Carter. She turned to them, lips pursed. "Suddenly, I looked up and he was, he was just gone"
"I never should've let you take him in the first place" Cat told her and glanced at Moira to let her know that was directed to her as well.
Moira cringed, licking her lips nervously.
Cat walked away from them toward her office.
Moira and Kara followed.
"It was very hard" Kara told her. "Really, really very hard. There was work, and watching Carter, and then all the crazy stuff happening around the city. That's why I asked Moira for her help and why she was there on the train with Carter, watching him. It's just..." She sighed overwhelmed "I, I just don't know how you do it, Ms. Grant. I don't understand how you juggle it all"
Cat looked up from her desk, scoffing, turning to her assistant "Oh, Keira. You have just stumbled upon the most annoying question of the century, and you are so young that you do not even realize it. 'How do you juggle it all?'." She walked closer to them, hand in her hip, rolling her eyes in slight boredom, walking around her desk to sit down "You learn, that's how. You start with two balls before adding another. I figured out how to be brilliant in business and then I added being a brilliant mother. Far too many women burn out trying to do too much before they're ready"
"So you can have it all?" Moira asked this time, because she had seen Kara work like crazy for Ms. Grant since she was hired and she didn't know she could handle it either, being an assistant and a hero and not screwing up on either. She wanted to know this, just in case she was ready to put on a suit and help with the hero stuff.
"Of course" Cat told her, not seeming as angry at her because wether she liked her son had been in danger or not, she had kept him safe and out of harm. She could, just a little respect that. Just a little "Just not all at once, and not right away. And not with that hair" She pointed at the two of them with her pen. Moira touched her braided hair as Kara touched the hairs of her ponytail "Use conditioner, for God's sake"
Given their talk ended, the kryptonians walked out of Cat's office, feeling both relieved and insulted on their personal higiene.
"I thought she was gonna kill us" Moira murmured as they left the office.
Kara chuckled nervously, nodding "She has that effect, for sure"
"Yeah" Moira agreed, walking toward her office.
What a day.
