EIGHT

HE WAS back in the office again but this wasn't to discuss about college opportunities, this wasn't for a lecture on how he should take his future more seriously. Keon was back at the office for deeper reasons that Mr Walter didn't know of till now.

Walter leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table. He stared down in deep concentration, he seriously wondered how to proceed with a topic like this.

"Di - di - did you do it?" Walter struggled before he could get the words out.

Keon blew out a sigh and leaned back in his chair, "does it look like I did it?"

"This is not a joke, Keon!" Walter's eyes flashed with rage and concern but Keon couldn't understand that. He couldn't understand why anyone would care for him, really.

"It's my choice."

"It's a damn stupid choice!" Walter said, getting more enraged.

"I don't care what you think." He said that but was unsure of the truth that lied in the sentence. Unsure whether he cared or not.

"Well, I care about your life! You are not like most students I have gotten."

"Yes, because most have problems on not being admitted in college or what bloody college to go to while, I'm the freak, who wants to die!" He yelled at Walter.

"You are not a freak. Keon, tell me of you need more help."

Keon squints his eyes at Walter, really not believing him. "More help? I should tell you whether I need more help?" He chortled. "I will tell you this Mr Walter, you should do your damn job better!" The chair scraped the ground as Keon stood up abruptly and stepped out of the office.

He walked out to the hallway that was empty, save from the familiar black haired girl that leaned against the lockers.

"Cora," he called out for her as he neared her with each steps. Her head snaps up at him and he stopped seeing the tears in her eyes. She wiped at the furiously and forced a pretty impressive smile that would have convinced him if he didn't just see her clean her eyes.

"Why are you crying?" He closed up the gap between them.

"Oh nothing. Stupid teenage girl problem." She waved him off.

"Is it Jamey?" He asked, remembering her cousin that was like her brother.

"What?" Her eyes widened.

"Today's the day he..." He paused for a minute before finishing his sentence. "Died."

"Uhm..." She racked her brain for answer to give him.

"You remember?" She digressed away from his question.

"Yes. It's kind of a hard thing to swallow, can't imagine how hard it would be on a relative." He placed his hand on her shoulder.

"We don't talk about him. My aunt doesn't want to touch the topic, it's too sensitive and my mom just falls along."

"Do you want to talk about it?" He asked her.

"I don't know." The tears began to slip out once more.

"It's okay if you want to, it helps." He pulled her closer to him and all she could do was nod.
