Chapter 7

-Lucy pov-
After the dream about Natsu I never fell asleep. I was afraid I would slip into a nightmare like that again and I just can't handle it. I was spending an unhealthy amount of time going through old books and spells, trying to figure out a way to help Natsu. The others were starting to get worried.

-Erza's pov-
I had my head in my hands. Gray and I had been going through some of masters old books. So far we had found nothing and it was stressful. Fairytails mood had totally changed. It was quiet.

The silence shattered when Lucy burst through the guild doors followed by Happy. She ran up to Gray and I.

"Guys I was going through one of the books at the library and found this." She said setting an old book down on our table. It's cover was made of leather and it was bound by a few strings.

"What is it?" Gray said picking he book up.

"It caught my eye so I grabbed it. It was hidden behind many books in the history section." Lucy said quickly.

"It looks like it hasn't been touched in years." I said closely looking at the book.

"That's what I though too so I checked it out and started reading it. Turns out it's a diary from a mage from a long time ago. I think the year was 300 and something. His brother had been possessed by something and he was trying to figure out how to cure him. He tried lots of different things but nothing seemed to work." She said. She took the book from Gray and opened to a page and began to read.

My work has finally paid off. I've found away to cure my brother. Finally I can see him for what he truly is. A human being. It took along time but I've finally figured out the secret. It is...

Lucy quieted down and stared at the page. We all leaned in.

"Lucy what does it say?" Happy said flying above us. Lucy looked away. She looked sad.

"It stops. There's nothing left." She said in a small voice. Gray slammed his fist on the table causing it to brake.

"Dammit. We need to figure out what to do!" He yelled. Many people from the guild turned their heads toward us. Gray just stood there looking at the broken table. Without saying another word he walked out of the guild.

-Grays pov-
Dammit! Why can't we figure out why as wrong. Why doesn't anything work! I hate this. We need to get flamebrain back!

-Lucy pov-
After Grays outburst we all had made our way home. Happy has been staying with me because Natsu isn't here.

I looked at the diary in my hand. I had decided to take it with me and look through it again. Just in case.

I examined the blank pages. I wracked my brain for any information that might help. Nothing.

"God I'm so damn useless." I said out loud putting my head in my hands. A tear fell down my cheek and hit the old parchment of the journal.

"No you're not useless Lucy. We just need to keep trying. You'll see. I'm sure we can find some way to help Natsu." Happy said from behind me. If forgot he was living with me. I turned around and tried to give him a smile. He hopped up on my desk.

"Umm Lucy I think you need to see an eye doctor." He said all of a sudden.

"Happy this is no time to joke around. I'm trying to figure out a way to save Nat-..." I stopped talking when I saw it. The blank pages from the diary were now filled with scribbly writing. I stood there dumbfounded, my mouth hanging open.

"I swear there was nothing there a minute ago." I said. I frantically put on my glasses to read the tiny, messy writing.

So you have figured out a way to read this. Congratulation are in order. But I must tell you that this is a fake. You're at a dead end. It's over. There is no possible way to save the friend you love so dearly. He is mine. And only mine. I'd like to tell you to stop trying. Natsu will become the king of this world. He, in time, will have the strength to even defeat me. I thank Fairytail for raising him to truly fight with spirit but I will be his master now.

Please send my regards to Mavis. Tell her my offer still stands and she should consider it. Good luck... Fairytail.

Zeref

I finished reading the message out loud to happy. All I could do was stare at the paper. It was a fake?!? The only thing we had that could clue is in on how to save him was just a scam thought of from zeref? No it couldn't be. I flipped though the rest of the pages. Blank. I cried again, my tears staining the paper. Nothing. The old, ripped parchment now stained with my tears stayed exactly the same.

I started to breath in short heavier breaths. I passed around my apartment not knowing what to do. Happy, who had been trying to be optimistic about the current situation just sat there staring at the fake journal.

Words from his letter echoed in my head.

Dead End.
