Introduction
"How disloyal we were, or rather, —
How true to ourselves we were."
— Marina Tsvetaeva
Mandalore: called home by many, it is planet that has always been torn apart by war—if not by an outsider's hand, then their own. Once the breeding ground for great warriors—warriors so skilled they were capable of killing even Jedi—Mandalore is now ground zero for a new era; one of peace¸ not war. Carried on the shoulders of the fair if not mercenary Duchess Satine Kryze, the pacifist movement has begun.
Meanwhile, the Clone Wars rage on across the galaxy, and the Jedi Council—in its efforts to maintain power, order, peace—have forced padawans upon their Knights and Masters. Fallon, pride and joy of House Kryze, is the precocious padawan of Mandalorian Jedi Master Kil Vizsla. A prodigy of pure skill and natural intellect; she is divided in her loyalty, an iron heart split in two. One half of her belongs to Order and always has, despite their part in the war—while the other yearns for her home, Mandalore, and for her aunt, the Duchess. Fallon anxiously awaits the day she must choose a side: the day she undertakes the Jedi trials, shedding the title of Padawan and asserting herself as a knight.
But that day never comes.
Mandalore has always been torn apart by war. And it has always been a hollow planet, a husk without a heart. Now, Mandalorian loyalists have returned from the dark, bent on filling the space with blood, guts, gore and glory. Having spent a lifetime exiled to Concordia, Mandalore's moon, those dedicated to the old warrior ways have resurfaced, sensing a crack in the new regime's façade. And Duchess Satine, whose beliefs are the very antithesis of theirs, is in their crosshairs.
Having completely missed the warning signs, Fallon is thrust into the firefight and, before she even realises what is happening, she and her fellow Mandalorian padawans are given sets of traditional Beskar-steel armour and gold-bladed lightsabers—relics of a time long past that haven't seen the light of day since the fall of the Old Republic. Before Fallon can realise how she has been betrayed, she is dubbed a neo-Mandalorian Knight, and sent to commit acts of destruction—treason—against her own people. Against her own family.
Before Fallon even realises it, she has become a member of Death Watch.
The truth comes after the terrorist group's brutal introduction, and Fallon, despite all her training, is not ready for it. The truth is that her beloved master Kil is a murderer, and a man so wrought in his loathing of the Jedi that he has come to hate himself. The truth is that he has been grooming Fallon for a fate she wasn't even aware of, a fate forced upon her by a family she's never even known. The truth is that he too is a loyalist, and he will stop at nothing to aid Fallon's long-lost parents Pre Vizsla and Bo-Katan Kryze in their hostile takeover of the Mandalorian government.
Fallon is en route to Coruscant to stand trial before the Jedi Council when she is reunited with a familiar face: Lux Bonteri, the son of a recently-deceased Separatist senator, a boy who is conflicted himself, a boy who is broken, a boy who the young padawan has been drawn to since the day they met. Lux is privileged, political, and devastatingly naïve in his attempts to survive the cosmos—but to Fallon, he is a path more well-lit, more welcoming, than any other she has been offered. He is a choice, one she is allowed to make all on her own.
For the longest time, Fallon has only known Mandalore. She has only known what has been forced upon her, by Satine, by the Order, by Kil. She has only known war. Now, all she wants is rest.
Redemption.
Trusting Lux is the easy part. Trusting herself, and regaining faith in a galaxy that has done nothing but let her down, is what will prove to be difficult.

✶ satine kryze—more like satine dies, am i right? welcome to DYNASTY, a star wars story set during the clone wars. DYNASTY begins in 21 BBY and continues through to the end of the clone wars in 19 BBY.
✶ this story was taken down earlier in the year because i didn't think i would ever write it again—for both personal reasons as well as the typical lack-of-inspiration ones. however, following the D23 announcement of tales of the jedi as well as the release of enola holmes 2 (starring my lux fancast, louis partridge), i felt a sudden desire to revamp everything and put DYNASTY back up. i've missed this story tons. i'm glad to have it back.
✶ people who are not familiar with this story... brace yourselves. you're about to read the longest chapters of your life. i am warning you now!
✶ DYNASTY explores the extremist mandalorian ideology we see throughout the clone wars show, mostly employed by death watch. fallon, one of this story's main characters, embodies the conflict between mandalore's past and present: the question of whether as a young jedi she should encourage peace, or as a young mandalorian she should do what is best for her people and planet (even if it involves violence).
✶ the story also examines pacifism in the form of new mandalore, as well as the separatist point of view through fallon's primary love interest, lux bonteri.
✶ it also features mandalorian and old republic canon, expanded upon and repurposed for the story's sake. still, there isn't much to go on so please do not use DYNASTY as an encyclopaedia for your own fic; chances are the canon referenced at any given point in the story has been heavily altered/expanded upon by me.
✶ psa: this fic is heavily oc-driven, and follows four padawans of various mandalorian clans from the outset of the clone wars to its end at the siege of mandalore. lux himself does not show up for a while. so please keep that in mind as you read! everything is purposeful and the wait is long for a reason.
✶ dedicated to darkduets, whom without their support this fic wouldn't be possible; kycshis, the best enabler i could ask for; sweetjawregui for being part of my support crew since what feels like day one; and gardenskies, for being an incredible friend.
✶ the layout of this fic is by candela / artemistics, but the character cast layout for fallon and lux is inspired by emory / entrywounds. please do not use these without asking the original creators' permission first.
MAKE DEATH PROUD TO TAKE US.
