episode 29: of lies and alibis
💎
"Li, listen to me. You shouldn't let your emotions get to you. Think logically. Jungkook might be a crook but he is faithful. We've known him since forever."
All Lisa could hear were mumbles. She barely even felt Eunwoo's hands on her shoulder as he tried to talk to her.
Yes, it was Jungkook and Irene. They both looked all fucked up. Like they ran a mile or fucked each other's eyeballs out. But that's not the case.
Someone else was using Jungkook's phone to facetime with her. To show her what her husband has done. It was planned. A plan to destroy her marriage.
But why? And Irene? Jennie trusted her. And she trusted Jennie with her life. How? Why? And fucking hell, how did Jungkook even end up there?
"Li, the video was taken at least a few steps away from those two. Jungkook wouldn't do that to you—"
"I know," she whispered but clear enough for the rest to hear. "I'm not a fucking retard. I know someone has his phone. But that doesn't—"
She couldn't even say it. Not because her head was all scrambled up but... it's because there was nothing. Pure nothing. It's like in one snap, she became hollow. A shell with nothing in it. Lifeless.
"Bammie..."
"Li?"
She locked gazes with the guy. Her eyes empty.
"Can you please handle the launch project? I don't think I can be able to handle it..."
"Li..."
Ignoring the guy's plea, she turned to DK.
"I'll be taking an indefinite leave. Take care of the company, okay?"
"Lisa—"
She forced a smiled after heaving a heavy sigh. Her attention fell towards the boys of the 97.
"Thank you for you help," she said while standing up. One by one, she gave her friends a hug. "I'll be fine. I'll always be. But I just... I just need some time away. Maybe bond with my son away from this place. I just... I just can't face him yet."
"Li, I know it may seem like he slept with her but—"
"Whether or not he stuck his dick in another woman, he's still in her bed," Mingyu suddenly said voicing out Lisa's unspoken words—which she deeply appreciated. "I mean, how did he even end up with her in the first place? But he hurt her regardless if it was intentional or not. Can't you guys see that?"
"Maybe he was drugged?" Yugyeom defended his best friend. "Gyu, we have to think logically here. I know you're pissed too but we all know Kook. He won't do something like this."
Mingyu was about to argue on her behalf but she stopped him.
"I'm not leaving him," she stated. Their conversations the past weeks echoing inside her head. How she was abandoning her son and husband. On how she can't seem to get her priorities straight. Maybe... Maybe it's her fault. "I love him and I'm willing to fight for him. But not right now. I... I... I just need to clear my head or something. I haven't told you guys but Kook and I... we've been having problems lately. And I was... I was considering leaving the company and just be a silent partner or something--"
"No," Eunwoo said and held her by her shoulders. Their gazes lock and she saw how serious he looked. "Li, you're the strongest girl I know. Don't let this get to you. If you trust him, trust yourself too. Trust that your love for him is enough to fight this."
"Eunwoo--"
"Lisa!"
Her eyes grew wide as a panting Chaeyoung suddenly entered her apartment. She was expecting someone to be with her--namely Jung Jimin, but she was alone. And she only had her pajammas on.
"I came as soon as I saw the news," she said and wrapped her arms around her best friend. "That bastard is dead to me, I tell you. I'll kill him."
Lisa's brows furrowed. "What do you mean, Chaeng? Who's dead? Who are you going to kill?"
Chaeyoung froze. Then bit her lip as she took her phone out and showed her the number one trending news on almost all news sites in Korea.
[BREAKING] YK Heiress' husband photographed with an unknown woman outside a famous restaurant out on a date. The two were seen by some witnesses exiting the establishment with the man's arm around the woman's waist. They were also caught kissing out on public with photos to support this claim. After said incident, they were spotted getting in a cab together. It seems that YK's heiress' marriage is on the rocks. Is this the reason why she's been spotted around with her personal lawyer? Is divorce currently in talks?
For the second time this day, she felt helpless. Like life itself was being sucked out of her whole being.
"Li..."
"I... I need to be alone..." was all she could say before walking straight towards her room.
It's all my fault...
💎
Jungkook felt like shit. His head pounding like he just had the most dreadful hangover his entire life. He opened his eyes and the crisp sunlight flooded his eyes. A groan managed to escape from his throats as he adjusted his sight. He carefully sat up and he gently massaged his temples. Carefull pulling the tangled sheets off his body, it was then he realized he wasn't wearing anything.
He didn't recall anything apart from leaving the restaurant and helping out the clumsy drunk woman. Did he pass out or something? Then he felt something move from beside him.
"What the--"
"So you're finally awake."
Staring at the figure who suddenly walked in, he recognized her immediately. She was that clumsy drunken woman he helped last night.
"Who--What the hell happened?" He managed to add a couple of curse words here and there as he grabbed yesterday's pants and slipped them on. "We didn't--"
"I have no clue," the rave-haired girl said innocently. "All I remember was being ditched by my sate last night and the next thing I know is that I'm already back here in my apartment with no clothes on. Imagine my surprise seeing you sleeping next to me. If someone should be upset, it should've been me. I don't even know you."
Jungkook cursed louder. He looked away from the peering brown orbs of the girl and stood up.
"I'm leaving," he said walking straight pass the girl towards the door. "I don't know you and this did not happen."
"But what if--"
"Nothing happened," he insisted. "I don't blackout. Even with roofies or whatever drug it is inside my drink. I would know whether or not I did something to you or not. So nothing happened. As far as I'm aware, we don't know each other and we'll never see each other again."
The door slammed shut behind him as he stepped out of the apartment. Again, he cursed. His watch showed it was almost noon so Lisa must've been worried sick. It took him just a minute or two to hail a cab.
Fishing out his phone from his pocket, his forehead creased when he saw Lisa's number in the recently facetime-d list on his phone log.
"What the hell?"
He immediately called the number. He's not the the type of person who usually calls first. Even with Lisa, she's the one who would call him first as they have agreed upon to not disturb her whenever she's busy or in a meeting.
But today, he's willing to take his chances. Something in his gut tells him to.
The number you have dialed is either unattended or out of coverage area. Please try again later.
He tried again.
The number you have dialed is either unattended or out of coverage area. Please try again later.
And again.
The number you have dialed is either unattended or out of coverage area. Please try again later.
He uttered a curse as he tried and tried again. But only the monotonous pre-recorded voice kept answering him.
"Answer the phone Lalisa..." he muttered as his patience ran thin. He peered outside the window a couple of times to check if he had already arrived at their apartment complex.
To no avail, Lisa didn't answer.
She's pissed, he thought. Handing the cab driver a few bills, he immediately got out of the cab and sprinted into the building. There he spotted a familiar figure.
"Taehyung!" He called sprinting towards his brother-in-law. But as soon as he was only a few steps away, the guy's fist met with his jaw. "What the—"
"You have some nerve showing your face to me after what you did to my sister," Taehyung hissed.
"What I did?" he managed to blurt out. "I missed our anniversary, yes but she cancelled on me first. And me not coming home doesn't give you the right to punch me—"
"Right?!" Lisa's twin roared in fury. "Her missing out on one fucking dinner date doesn't give you the right to cheat on my sister!"
Jungkook froze.
"W-What?" he choked. "Cheat on Lisa? I would never—"
Another blow hit him square on the face. Taehyung's eyes clearly full of rage.
"Fucking asshole!" he yelled. "If you're gonna go out kissing another woman, have the fucking decency to at least hide yourself from the paparazzi. Jerk."
Recalling the events of the other night, Jungkook stood up tried to stop Taehyung from leaving without hearing him out.
"It's not what it seems, Taehyung!" he insisted. It seems like someone might've seen the accident that happened involving that clumsy drunken ass woman outside the restaurant. "I would never cheat on your sister. I love her."
"Then how would you explain the photo of you and some girl making out outside a restaurant?"
He cursed.
"What? No! We weren't making out! I was just helping her get a cab since that woman was drunk! She just tripped and happen to fall on me. That kiss was purely accidental. I pushed her almost immediately."
Taehyung clicked his tongue—clearly not believing his ex brother-in-law.
"Wow. Such a cliché excuse. Shouldn't conmen have better excuses? At least a more believable alibi."
"I swear, Taehyung. I would never cheat on Lisa—"
"It's okay Tae..."
Jungkook's head snapped towards the direction of the familiar voice.
"Lali—"
Lisa smiled. He felt his insides churn as her smile seemed forced. He hated that.
"I'll be fine. We need to talk about it anyways."
"But—"
"I can handle myself. Please."
With a sigh, Taehyung nodded. But the guy threw him a glare before leaving. Lisa turned to him. Her brown orbs free from any kind of emotion.
"Let's talk about this upstairs."
💎
It was the most nerve-wrecking elevator ride in Jungkook's life. Neither he nor Lisa spoke a single word until he vacated the elevator.
"Jungkook," she called out making his heart thump loudly. Like there was something wrong judging by the tone of her voice. "Heads up."
He blinked as she threw a small box neatly wrapped. Thanks to his quick reflexes, he caught the parcel.
"Doll—"
"Open it," she commanded—still not stepping out of the elevator.
With his forehead in a knot, he did as he was told. His mouth flew open when he saw a familiar ring inside of it. Her wedding ring.
"Lis—"
His reflexes actually suck. The elevator closed and he wasn't able to stop it.
"Lalisa!"
He immediately pressed the buttons for it to open but he was too late. Turning to both directions, he ran to the fire escape hoping to catch the lift before it successfully landed on the lobby.
Uttering curse words as he ran down the never ending staircase, he held the ring tightly in his hands. But as soon as he walked out of the door, Lisa was already long gone. With no traces of her nor her twin brother.
"Fuck!"
Fuck this shit. Fuck that woman. Fuck this fucking life!
He brushed his fingers through his hair as his eyes roamed the area—still hoping to find his wife so that he could explain everything. That it was all a big misunderstanding. That those photos were nothing. That...
He remembered the facetime log. He immediately fished out his phone and checked the timestamp of the call.
11:36pm
It couldn't have been him. The last phone call he had with Lisa before blacking out was at nine. It couldn't—
"Fucking hell!"
The woman. That woman. It was too much of a coincidence that a paparazzi would be present in that particular area of Seoul. He made sure to make reservations at a restaurant where not much people would come since he didn't want their anniversary ruined by reporters flocking his wife asking for updates regarding her company.
And he pushed her quickly. The only way a paparazzi would manage to get that shot is if he were already waiting to capture that particular moment. And with the facetime call... it was planned. Why? He had no idea. But he was sure that woman planned it all.
He clenched his fists as he marched out of the building and back to that certain stranger's apartment.
Someone's gonna die today.
