episode 28: how to break a bitch

💎

"How long has she been in coma you say? Five years?" Lucas asked as he watched a pale, lifeless girl lying in the middle of the king sized bed with multiple tubes connected to her frail looking body.

As a doctor himself, seeing patients like this is natural but finding out she's been in coma for five long years... it wasn't unnatural but it was applaudable.

"At this rate, if she did wake up she'd either have brain damage or be in a vegetative state," he told her straightforwardly. "But there are cases where she could miraculously recover without any of those."

"I know," she said then sighed. "But I'm not just gonna let this slide. That fucking family did this to her. I almost got them but that Lalisa just had to intervene."

"Tch. I should've known," he muttered letting out a smirk. "That bitch is always getting on my nerves as well. And this isn't the first time she saved her family from ruins."

"Yeah. She managed to swindle SS Group's majority stock position through contract legalities," she let out a soft chuckled before folding her slender arms. "Quite smart actually. She's like a freaking guardian angel or something. I'd love to shoot her in the face."

"I don't think she'd even quiver," he muttered recalling the confrontational incident they had before. "That bitch ain't scared of a gun."

"Everyone is afraid of something," she muttered, deep in thought as she gazed as her unconscious sister's sleeping form. "We just have to figure out what it is. Once Lalisa Kim is out of the picture, her family won't stand a chance at all. We just need to strike her weakness, that's all. I've heard she has a child. I wonder if she'd react differently if it was the kid involved."

Kang Seulgi heaved a sigh as she overheard Joohyun and the Lucas boy's conversation. She had been with the brunette for years helping take care of Sooyoung and making sure they were both safe. She had witnessed everything the girl went through and what she had sacrificed for her sister. She even supported her with her plans as she thought it would help her move on from everything.

But with what's happening now, she can clearly see how anger and revenge had corrupted her best friend's soul and she doesn't even recognize Bae Joohyun now at all. She was a different person—a spiteful, full of anger and confused person.

But she can't do anything nor leave. She can't even tell her off about everything. Irene was neither sane nor in a stable state. She's afraid that if she left, she go as far as killing people for her idea of justice. She's even considering harming an innocent child.

"Joohyun," she said as she laid the tray with two coffees on the table. "YK's stocks are still down. They suffered enough loses, don't you think? You should stop—"

"Suffered enough?" Joohyun laughed bitterly. "They're far from it, Seulgi. I won't rest until they're all on the ground. That family ruined everything—"

"The only person you're ruining is yourself, Joohyun!" she blurted out. The Lucas kid looked genuinely surprised after her scream as she wasn't much of a talker since Joohyun brought him to the apartment.

It was another thing she was worried about. Joohyun just let the guy in to their home like he wasn't a wanted criminal. For all they know he's a psychopathic serial killer or something.

"Can't you see? Instead of taking care of Sooyoung like you should, you're out there running around trying to find someone else to blame," she continued. "Instead of spending your limited time with her, you keep on running after that family you're not even sure if they were really behind Sooyoung's condition. As far as I know, Sooyoung had gotten into an accident. No one actually killed her!"

"You don't know how much it hurts, Seulgi!" Irene shot back shocking the former. Her eyes was full of hate and rage. "You don't know what it feels like to lose someone you love!"

"You haven't lost her yet, Joohyun! She's still here!" she argued back. "So instead of running around plotting against those people, why not spend time with your sister instead? She's in a coma. It's even considered a miracle that she's still holding on. But... but she might not hold on much longer. You're wasting time feeding your anger when you can just spend each day full with her—showering her love and—"

Seulgi took a step back in order to balance herself. Her eyes wide at what her best friend who just pushed her forcibly.

The brunette's eyes darted like she was out to murder someone—in this case it was her. Joohyun's shoulders rose up and down, in-sync with her heavy breathing as her fists clenched tightly.

"You have no idea how much it hurts," Joohyun muttered tight-lipped. "You don't have any family that's why you have no right to tell me not to be hurt."

"I'm not telling you not to be hurt. I'm telling you to move on," she spat back. Then she heaved a sigh. "But whatever. As you've said, I don't have any family. Might as well leave this god forsaken place and live on my own."

With that, Seulgi pivoted towards the door and left. This made Joohyun roll her eyes.

"Fine. Leave! You're not very helpful anyway!"

The door slammed shut making her groan in frustration. Then she turned towards a troubled Lucas.

"What?!" she shot at him.

"You just let her go?" he asked warily. "She might rat us out. Rat me out. I need to get out of here—"

"You're not going anywhere," she stopped him. "She won't rat you out. 'Coz if she did, you'll rat me out and she'll be an accomplice. So relax and help me think of a way to get rid of that Lalisa Kim."

Lucas stood silent as he did what he was told. He recalled every detail he knew about the youngest Kim and her weaknesses.

"I think I can find a way to get the kid," he said stating out her initial thoughts. "I'm sure Lisa would lose it—"

"No," she immediately said. Taking the kid would be a good idea but that would just fuel her wrath. She heard from Jennie that when her husband was taken away and thought dead, she never did stop finding her. So kidnapping either one of them would do nothing.  "She's scarier when you take her family away from her. If you want to get rid of someone like her, I think we should break her."

"Break her?" Lucas' forehead creased. "What do you mean?"

"To break a strong woman like her, you have to break her spirit," she said as a wide grin drew up on his face. "And I know exactly how to do that."

💎

"Seriously, Doll. This is the third time you're cancelling on me. And it's our fucking anniversary! You should've told me earlier—what? Just come home? I'm already at the fucking restaurant—hello? Li? Fuck!"

Jungkook cursed as the line got cut off. For the nth time this month, Lisa stood him up. They were supposed to have dinner together and he had already took Junghyun to the mansion.

She's at it again. She's too engrossed in the company that she's forgetting she has his own family to take care of.

He has had it. She always make empty promises to him and he's tired of it. He wants her to at least sort her priorities out because he needs a wife and Junghyun needs a mother. Neither of which Lisa is at the moment.

Deep in his own thoughts, Jungkook suddenly bumped into someone on his way to the building's main entrance to take his leave.

"Sorry!"

The girl's soft voice exclaimed as her bag fell on the paved floor. On instinct, he grabbed the spilt contents of her bag and helped her.

"No, I'm sorry I wasn't paying attention—"

Jungkook's voice trailed off as he saw the girl's face. Delicate, soft and innocent. Her raven hair in contrast to her milky white skin as it cascaded down her shoulder.

Tucking the loose strands of her hair behind her ear, the woman smiled warmly at him as her cheeks turn a light shade of pink—or were they already there?

"Oh no," the girls said. "It was my fault. I... Well, I'm not much of a good drinker so the wine must've affected me. I'm okay."

Jungkook helped her up but like what she said, she must've had too much wine. He held her by her waist and her supported her body with his, helping the poor intoxicated girl regain balance. Her hand landed on his chest and and their gazes locked. Her lips broke into a soft smile as her eyes were a bit droopy—clearly feeling sleepy.

"Thank you," she said softly as she tried to prop herself up to stand straight.

Jungkook sighed. The girl clearly looked like she's in need of help and he had nothing else to do for the rest of the night. Maybe he can try and be a Good Samaritan for once.

"Did you come here with someone?" he asked. "Are you with some friends I can call put to help you?"

She shook her head "no".

"My boyfriend stood me up again so no," she said slurring a bit. "That good for nothing jerk should've just dated his work if he's gonna do this to me."

Jungkook couldn't help but be sympathetic as she helped her walk outside the establishment. Even being this beautiful can be treated like this too.

"Why are you staring at me?" the woman said then broke into a wide smile. "Hmm. Do you like me? Are you some kind of stalker? Serial Killer? Will you throw me off the Han River after you kill me? Don't. I don't know how to swim."

He couldn't help but stifle a laugh at her mumbling. Her cheeks were a brighter shade of pink and she was almost eating up her words.

"Well, I might do that but you're too drunk," he teased. "I'll just get you a cab so you can go home safely."

"Oh I forgot my—oops!"

As the woman pivoted back to the restaurant, she lost her balance once again and fell towards him. Of course, Jungkook tried to catch her but that's where he went wrong.

The woman's rosy lips landed on his—purely accidental (he hoped), and caught him in surprise. It took him a few more seconds to recover before she pushed the woman back. She almost fell again but it was a good thing she caught hold of a light post.

"S... Sorry," the girl said then she chuckled a bit. "I'm... I'm sorry. It was an... an accident."

Jungkook's forehead creased and he did not like what had just happened. It's a good thing the people around were busy 'coz if someone took a photo or saw what happened, Lisa would be furious.

"You should seriously head home."

Chills can be felt at how cold and serious Jungkook's tone was. It was the first time he acted nice and he's really considering not doing it again. He raised his hand signaling a taxi and helped the drunken woman get in.

And that was the last thing he remembered after suddenly blacking out feeling something hard on the back of his head.

💎

"Are you sure Jungkook's already on his way?" Eunwoo asked as he picked up the excess ribbons Lisa had cut up to decorate the Happy Anniversary Wall in their apartment. "We can stay 'til he arrives."

DK, Mingyu, Bambam and Yugyeom all nodded in agreement.

"I'll be fine guys," she assured them. "I'll just wait for Jungkook to come home and surprise him. You guys can go ahead. And thank you so much for helping me set up the apartment."

"It's not a big deal," Bambam replied. "Jungkook's one lucky bastard to be receiving all these hard work from you, Li. I bet all he had in store for you is a dinner date and a sinful night at some hotel."

This made the dark-haired girl chuckle. She's actually been planning this surprise for her and Jungkook's third wedding anniversary for weeks and she wanted it to be special. But of course, she needed to distract him a bit by ignoring him on purpose. Also, she can't seem to keep that much secret from him so it was best to not engage in a conversation with him.

She set up a "memory wall" with pictures of him and her together hanging on a wire with fairy lights. She also set up a white screen on the opposite side for them to enjoy a good movie or two while they drink the ever so special Italian Amarone—the very kind they drank together back in the wine cellar. Also, she laid some blankets and some pillows on the carpeted floor where they get to enjoy each other's company as they relieve the past years together.

"I never thought you were the romantic kind, Li," Yugyeom suddenly teased. "This set-up looks like it came straight out of a fucking rom-com. Jungkook's a fucking lucky bastard."

Again, Lisa laughed at their friends' comments. A while later, they started to bade goodbye and she walked them to the door.

"Are you positively sure he's on his way?"

"Yes he—"

She was suddenly cut off when her phone rang. It was Jungkook. Is he... facetiming?

"Kook—"

Her eyes grew wide at the sight. Her knees started to buckle—good thing Mingyu was there to catch her.

"Lisa what's wro—what the fuck?!"

The sound of her phone crashing on the floor echoed inside the room but it wasn't enough to overpower the shattering of her heart.

Even with the screen broken, it can still be seen clearly. Jungkook and a brunette together in one bed, their bodies only partially covered.

And the brunette was none other than her new secretary, Bae Irene.
