episode 23: it's not over yet

💎

"What the fuck took you so long?!"

Jisoo's voice echoed from her hospital suite as she screamed in pain because of her contractions. Jin winced in pain as his wife immediately pulled his hair the second he stood next to her.

"I'm sorry yeobo. I had to file a report at the police's station—"

"That can wait but the baby can't!" She screamed again making the CEO flinch.

A few minutes later, some nurses came to take the pregnant woman out of the room and transferred to a different one for labor. The only reason why they couldn't transfer her was because she refused to go until his husband was present.

Jungkook—who was sitting next to his wife on the couch, grimaced. Poor Jin hyung.

"I pity him," he said. "Were you like that when you were in labor?"

Lisa—who was the only calm one in the room, nodded without taking her eyes off the magazine she's been reading.

"Imagine being kicked in the balls for... I dunno, a hundred times maybe?" she tried to explain. "Yoongi almost lost their hair."

Jungkook felt a slight stab on his chest. So he was there. Not only did he take care of her but he also stood as the husband when she gave birth to our son. He's thankful that Yoongi took care of his wife while he was gone but, he's clearly jealous. It should've been him who took care of her. It should've been him who almost lost all hair because of Lisa. He was the husband. Not Yoongi.

"Retract your claws, Kookie," Lisa said as though she had just read his mind. "Jimin was there too and suffered the same thing. Nayeon was taped the whole thing."

"Nayeon?"

"Yoongi's girlfriend."

"Oh."

Lisa can't hide her amusement anymore. She put down the magazine she's been reading and turned towards Jungkook. He looked cute carrying A sleeping Junghyun over his chest.

It was actually a good thing Mingyu and Minghao—tech experts of The 97, found Jisoo and Junghyun as they ran away. Jisoo was already in labor and experiencing contractions every few minutes while carrying Junghyun. How she managed to was still a shock to everyone. The two guys immediately took her to the hospital and took us a while to follow her.

But as soon as we arrived in the hall and Jungkook saw Junghyun—who was awake and playing with his Uncle Taehyung, he sprinted towards them and hugged his son. She almost cried when Junghyun smiled and called him 'Appa'.

He's usually not a fan of strangers but with Jungkook, strangely it was as if he knew who he was.

Now, their son was sound asleep in his arms as though nothing had happened.

"You can put him down, you know," she said patting the empty couch space next to her.

"You had two years with my son. He's only been with me for ten minutes and you want to take him away? That's not fair, doll," he whined making her roll her eyes at him.

"Calm down, drama queen," she spat. "I was just wondering if you're getting tired. It's been a long ass day, you know."

"You sleep on my chest for hours and you weigh a ton. Surely I can handle our son without breaking a sweat—"

Lisa smacked his arm violently.

"Are you telling me I'm fat?!"

"I'm making a point. I'm not saying you're fat but, you did gain some... in all the right places," he smirked while wiggling his eyebrows. Again, he got smacked.

"Will you two stop flirting in front of my salad?" Mingyu spat at the two who was sitting on a chair a few feet away from them. "I can't concentrate on tracking your crazy brother."

Realizing the presence of Yuqi in the room, he immediately retracted what he just said.

"I mean, no offense. But he did some crazy shit."

Yuqi just smiled. Forced, to be honest.

"It's alright. He's clearly not in the right state of mind," she said. "But... I guess his mother—I mean, when the woman who took him, died, he changed. Like something inside him snapped."

Lisa walked towards her and sat beside her. Holding her hand and lightly patting it, she gazed at her eyes.

"Can you..." she started but trailed off.

"Tell you about him?" Yuqi supplied. "He's a wonderful man, Miss Kim. He's a resident at one of the best hospitals in Shanghai. He's actually regarded to as a prodigy of the Chinese medical field as his studies regarding neurobiology was outstanding."

"But he's too young to be a doctor—"

"He got accelerated twice," she explained. "He skipped preschool as well. Lucas was a very smart man. Chivalrous. Kind. And a loving son. He valued family more than anyone I know."

Lisa observed her. She understood why Yuqi tolerated him for years. To Yuqi, Lucas hung the moon and stars. He was the center of her universe. But... what changed?

She turned her attention to the girl's belly.

"Yuqi... are you?" She asked turning back her attention on the girl's face. "Are you pregnant?"

Instinctively, the young girl placed her hand on top of her belly.

"How..."

"You tolerated him for years," Lisa stated. "The only reason why you've changed sides was because you now have someone else to prioritize. And in this case, your child."

Jungkook turned to the two. Even Mingyu's attention was drawn towards them.

"I..." Yuqi's eyes watered. "I know there were people in the neighborhood looking for Jungkook. But I didn't report it until I got to talk with the guy. He kinda told me that his wife was looking for him for two years now. And he also told me the story of how you had to raise your baby without him.

"It was too much for me to handle since I just recently found out I was pregnant too. I grew afraid of what might happen if Lucas' plans don't work out. I didn't want my child to grow up without a father so I decided that this had to stop. So I told the investigator that I knew where he was and gave him the picture. I thought that if Jungkook manages to return back to his family, Lucas would stop and we'd be able to live peacefully."

"You do know that if Jungkook escaped he could put Lucas behind bars—"

"I thought of that but we're good at hiding," she continued. "We could just hide in the countryside and change our names. I didn't want our child to grow up knowing that his father's a criminal."

Yuqi was now crying. Lisa squeezed her hand gently and rubbed her back slowly.

"You're such a strong girl," she said to her smiling. "How far long are you?"

"A month..." she said then sighed. "He'll be in big trouble, right? You'll lock him behind bars?"

Lisa turned to Jungkook who just sighed. She has to be honest.

"Yuqi... Lucas did terrible things," she started. "Even though he's apparently our brother, we can't just turn a blind eye. But, he can plead for a lower sentence. And judging by his current mental state, he'd be sent to a mental institution instead of jail."

"I understand," she said as she rubbed her belly. "We'll be patient. I know the old Lucas is still there. He's just angry and lonely. But maybe with your help, he can go back. We can go back to what we were before."

Lisa wrapped her arms around the girl. She's so pure and innocent. She trusts that whatever Yuqi described Lucas to, that's her real brother. The girl wouldn't hold on to him that much if he's the monster they all think he is.

Suddenly, the hospital suite's room opened and her grandmother—in a wheelchair pushed by Namjoon, came in.

"Halmoeni!" Lisa exclaimed as soon as she saw the old woman. "Why are you up? The doctors—"

"I'm a bad weed," she cut her granddaughter off. "It won't be easy to kill me off. But that's not what I'm here for. Namjoon, dear. Please tell them."

The bedimpled man nodded before heaving a sigh.

"Li. The Mr. Choi is up to no good," he started off. "He's calling for an emergency board meeting to replace your brother."

"Replace him? Why? And with whom?" she immediately asked. "Not to be that type of person but, no one else is fit to run YK other than him. Except me, of course but I have no interest in running that old place—no offense."

"Mr. Choi wants his son to run the company," Chairwoman Daesom said making the girl more confused.

"Son? Does he have one? Did his daughter finally get a dick or something?"

"Lalisa..." the old woman warned making her roll her eyes.

"What? Everyone knows she's into girls anyway..."

"It's her," the old woman cleared before turning to Namjoon. "It's Namjoon."

Lisa's eyes grew wide before snapping her head at Namjoon.

"What?! You're related to that old pervert?!" she blurted out making Namjoon sigh and nod.

"Unfortunately," he said. "As soon as he told me his intent on making me Chairman, I immediately contacted Jin. But his phone was out of coverage so I thought of heading straight here. It's a good thing that the chairwoman's already awake."

"We dodged this bullet but I'm not getting any younger," the Kim matriarch said with conviction. "As much as I want the eldest Kim to be the head of YK, the board still doesn't trust Seokjin enough to lead the company."

"Then what do you propose, Grandma?"

"You, Lalisa. You are what the company needs right now."

💎

Lisa let out a sigh as she let her body fall on to the soft mattress. After everything that has happened today, a nice long sleep was what she needs. But as she was about to close her eyes, Junghyun's laughter echoed from the outside.

Walking out of the room towards the apartment's living room, she felt like crying as she saw Jungkook happily playing with his son. They where playing with blocks and Junghyun kept throwing them at his father—which he enjoyed very much.

Two years. Two fucking years wasted apart just because of what grandma chose to do more than twenty years ago. Not that it was her fault but, she could've handled it better. She could've tracked down the woman and taken Lucas. Even if father didn't know who he was, at least our brother wouldn't have been this psycho out for revenge.

A lot of people say that she's like her grandmother. More alike than even her father nor anyone else in the family. But she wants to prove them wrong. She won't make the same mistakes she did and compromise her family again.

"Eomma!"

Junghyun's call made her snap out of her trance and smile. He raised his arms and made 'grabby hands'. She smiled as that meant he wanted her to come and play. So she did.

"Grabby hands," Jungkook said as she sat beside him. Junghyun busy stacking up his blocks so he snuck a quick peck on her neck. "I think I wanna try those grabby hands on you, wife."

"Jungkook!" she whisper-shouted. "In front of Junghyun, really?"

"Junghyun wouldn't mind, right buddy?"

The kid then threw a block towards Jungkook hitting him on the face. Junghyun laughed.

"You were right though," he said trying to find his inner patience. "Our offspring would give Satan a run for his money."

"You did not just call our child a devil!"

Jungkook chuckled as he planted another chaste kiss on her lip. Again, Junghyun threw a block at him laughing.

"Looks like you have a tough competition, Kookie," she teased him. "Junghyun's pretty much whipped for me."

"You know what they say, doll," he said as he tucked the loose strands of her hair behind her ear. "Like father like son."

Lisa managed to crack a smile before her husband's lips devoured hers a his free hand cupped her face. Little Junghyun giggled as he covered his own eyes playfully.

What her grandma wants was for her to take over the company. To be the face of the Kims' dynasty. But she's not a Kim anymore. She's now a Jeon.

And they will create their own dynasty.

💎

"Your dad's furious, Joon," Yoongi said as he handed him the glass of scotch. "You know Mr. Choi won't stop 'til he gets his hands on this company."

"You know where my loyalties are, Yoongi," he said looking over the view of his apartment's window. "It would always be on the Kims."

"Joon..."

"The chairwoman... she was the only one who was there for me. You know that. And my loyalty is the only thing I can give to repay her."

"It wasn't your fault, Joon," Yoongi told his half-brother as he patted the younger one's shoulder. "It was an accident."

"Yes it was but..." he trailed off as the most regretted incident in his life flashed in his head again.

The party. His drunken ass getting inside the car. The blinding light. Her scream.

The sound of shattering glass made him come back to reality.

"Joon—"

"I killed her," he said as he started to cry again. "I killed her and if not for the chairwoman, I'd be behind bars. I... I..."

He felt his brother's grip on both his arms.

"It was an accident, Joon. You have to forgive yourself. Jin's happy now and let's just leave everything in the past, okay?"

Namjoon helplessly nodded.

"Sooyoung..."
