after the second show in santa clara there were two more in los angeles that following week after taking the tour bus to the new city. taehyung killed it as usual, thanking that crowd for being the best even though it's what he said during every show. they were staying in the states for the next month, traveling to six cities to finish up half the tour and then head to toronto at the end of august.
they were packing up the tour bus now to drive to dallas, two more shows there before heading on to orlando after that. taehyung sat with the martini shaped sunglasses on, scrolling through his phone and waiting for the bus to be ready so he could board. the drive to texas would take nearly a day and they were leaving at night. the rockstar hoped to sleep for most of the trip. except, those plans didn't last long, not when he spotted a certain man jumping off the last step of the second tour bus.
"that's the last one." jungkook said to the head designer, hoseok. they had run out of room underneath the bus for the trunks, they right now the second bathroom was being used to store the makeup cases on the sink.
just by looking at him, no one could tell that he was dreading this drive. jungkook took initiative to help load the buses, even checking out of his hotel room early to do so. "okay i'll tell namjoon and we should be good to head out soon." hoseok said, then walked off.
he stood alone now, hands resting on his hips. jungkook looked up and the boy seemed to stand out against everything else. taehyung was already watching him through those dumb looking pink lenses, and he was sure the older would stay put or walk off. he was not expecting jungkook to start walking over, a small smile even threatening to show. "nice glasses." he said, turning to sit on the curb beside the rockstar.
"i told you to get a pair." taehyung smiled when he said it. he knew something was up with the older, but at least he was still talking to him.
they sat in silence, just watching people move around and finish up readying the buses before finding their rides, whether that be on the bus itself or cars that followed behind. jungkook rested his elbows on his bent knees. "i cant believe after dallas that the tour started a month ago." he said.
"time goes by fast." taehyung said. he knew that better than anyone, sometimes it still felt like he was a child doing auditions and practicing guitar in his dads garage. now he was selling out shows in multiple countries. "we should get going." jungkook stood now, seeing the boys manager coming out and talking to hoseok about whatever.
the first bus for the rockstar, the only other people on that one was the driver and a body guard and his band mates. his manager and team would ride in the second bus. "i'll see you if we stop somewhere." jungkook said, smiling quick before walking off towards the bus.
taehyung just nodded and stood as well, bringing his bag over his shoulder and heading towards his own. he was going to ask if the ravenette wanted to come on his bus, but with the rest of the band and guard they wouldn't really be alone and it might be weird.
once they would arrive in dallas they'd have two days before the first show. only one was a free day, namjoon said they needed to set up and practice more the day before. taehyung climbed onto the bus and went straight for the bunks, just thinking about sleeping and hoping to wake when they arrived. he knew that wasn't going to happen, but he still hoped.
the rockstar slept longer than he thought, chugging some nyquil beforehand and listening to lofi to help him drift away. what woke him was his phone buzzing around 11 am the next day, a few texts coming in from the same person. taehyung sat up as much as he could on the bus, rubbing his eyes so they could adjust faster to the brightness of his screen.
it was jungkook texting him, coming right after the one from his manager saying they were going to stop for lunch at a diner on the turnpike. taehyung ignored that one, hitting the messages from the ravenette and feeling a little flutter in his chest at the words.
don't make plans tomorrow night. that's all it said. taehyung didn't really need to know more, not if it involved spending the night with the handsome man.
the bus slowed down, taking an exit off the road to turn into the dirt parking lot outside a diner and tiny gas station with a convenience store connected to it. taehyung was still in the clothes from the night before, so he swung his legs off the side of the bed and jumped down from the bunk to find something to wear. everyone seemed to get off the bus already, his bandmates not lounging on the sofas but the sports game was still playing on the small television. taehyung pulled out a fresh pair of jeans and a simple t-shirt.
taehyung grabbed his phone and started to head off the bus, a yelp escaping his throat when he ran into a chest he wasn't expecting to be there. jungkook grabbed the boys upper arms and closed his eyes, "jesus you have a pair of lungs." he said, and then let his hands fall back down to his sides. taehyung just glared at him, "you scared me so it's your fault."
"whatever, let's go i'm hungry." jungkook turned to get off the bus. he was just wondering where the rockstar was after everyone else left the bus and entered the diner. it wasn't too busy and they got tables pretty quickly. the two males walked in and spotted their party pretty quickly, walking over and taking seats. taehyung was at the head of the table and jungkook sat to his right, onda beside him.
"taehyung you missed the game." yoongi said, a few seats down and still wearing his hoodie from last night and probably the same sweatpants. his eyes looked a little swollen, probably because he stayed up all night to watch said game. taehyung just shrugged, "i'll watch it later. we still have a few hours." he said, technically more than a few since they were only just over half way to dallas. "do you watch sports?" he asked the ravenette sitting beside him.
jungkook just shrugged, he was aimlessly folding the napkin into some shape. "when i started high school i did." he said.
that reminded taehyung of his phone call with ms. euna, and how jungkook might not have graduated. he just smiled though, and set the menu down, already knowing what he wanted. "do you go to high school in seoul?" he asked. maybe this was his chance for small talk.
jungkook seemed more interested in the menu though, just humming now with eyes scanning the items. "busan." he said. "i only came to seoul when i was seventeen. what are you getting?" he changed the subject, looking up at the boy already watching him.
"uh," taehyung trailed off and looked back down at the menu to find what he wanted. "a monte cristo." he said, knowing he's had that before and it was to die for. jungkook just nodded and continued to read the menu, even turning to start talking to onda beside him. taehyung frowned a little.
he shouldn't have felt down now, not even when yoongi started to talk to him about the game and how they could watch after they ate and just talk about all the best parts. he even said they had snacks hidden in one of the wardrobe cases so their dietician didn't find them. taehyung wanted to laugh and look forward to that quality time with his band, but even when he tried to ignore it he just heard how onda would occasionally laugh and then jungkooks would follow. he wanted to laugh with them too.
"is the bar stocked on the bus." taehyung asked his drummer. yoongi just shrugged and sipped the water from his glass, "most likely."
the rockstar just hummed, watching as the waitress made her way around their table and took orders. he pulled out his phone, still feeling that ugly emotion sitting in the pit of his stomach and somewhat curbing his appetite at the moment. taehyung opened his text messages again, going to that one he got just as he woke up.
don't make plans tomorrow night. he read it a few times until he felt a little better.
then it was his turn to order and he did, smiling politely to the lady until she continued on with the rest of them at the table. the service here was pretty good, things coming and going pretty quickly and no one had an empty glass before a refill was placed beside it. taehyung was hungry when they got there and he was thankful he didn't have to wait much longer for his sandwich. he was nearly drooling when he say it come around the counter from the kitchen. there were two more people accompanying their waitress to help carry it all.
when his monte cristo was placed in front of him, even jungkook leaned over a bit. "that looks good." he said, sitting back once a plate was placed in front of him.
taehyung nodded and didn't wait to take a bite, closing his eyes and just savoring the flavors on his tongue. "want a bite?" he asked, holding the sand which over to the man. typically he would take him up on that offer, considering it wasn't the first time taehyung fed him something. the only difference was that they were normally alone, but jungkook still leaned forward enough to take a bite and taste for himself.
"i'm gonna have to get that next time." he said once he swallowed, making the rockstar smile and nod as well as he continued to eat his sandwhich. "so you want to come here again with me?" he asked the older, seeing how jungkook just nodded. he wasn't even blushing or seemingly embarrassed, he just wanted to hang out with taehyung at this point.
everyone seemed to enjoy what they ordered, empty plates following not too long after they got to the table. namjoon paid, using the company card of course and soon they were all ready to head back on the road. as much as some wanted to stay and chat, they had a schedule keep.
taehyung was so bad with schedules though, he's glad he had people telling him where to go and what to do or else he'd be a mess on the road. it was the complete opposite of jungkook who enjoyed the schedules and knowing that his day's were busy and packed without time being wasted, but even with all that he still grabbed the boys arm before he left for his bus. "hey," he said to taehyung, the two of them standing in the dirt parking lot as everyone else got ready to leave.
"what's up?" taehyung asked, looking up at the ravenette and trying to read his expression. jungkook was chewing on his bottom lip, looking down at the dirt. his hand was playing with the necklace around his neck. "did you get my text?" he finally asked.
taehyung knew he didn't text back, because it wasn't really a question and he figured he would talk to the man before tomorrow night anyways. "i did, and i'm free and i'm looking forward to it." he said, smiling too with hope that one would form on the others lips too.
it didn't. he just nodded and looked off towards the buses. yoongi was waving for them to hurry up, and taehyung just flipped him the bird.
"it's not a date." jungkook said. he was quick to place his hands on taehyungs arm too, right when his face seemed to fall just the slightest, "not that i wouldn't want to, it's just-" he cut himself off, "tomorrow isn't about me, i just have to- do something. and even if it's not a date that doesn't mean i take back anything we did-" he didn't seem to know what to say.
"it's okay." taehyung cut him off and smiled again, holding onto the mans wrist that stayed on either side of his arms. "i get it, sorta." he said. "whatever you need, i got you."
jungkook seemed to relax at that, nodding and reaching up to run his hand through his hair. he looked good right now, and not in a way that had taehyung wanting to jump on him or just drool over his good looks. jungkook just looked pretty right now, with the blue sky behind him and the sun shining down on such nice features. maybe that's why taehyung stood on his toes and hugged him, or maybe because he knew something was in the mans mind that he didn't know how to get into words.
jungkook hugged him back, arms wrapping around the boys waist in a firm grip. they separated only when hoseok yelled at them too, causing both to blush and blame it on standing in the sun too long. the stylist walked over to his bus and glanced once more at the rockstar disappearing onto his. "take a picture, it lasts-" hoseok didn't even get to finish the cheesy and cliche line before jungkook hit him in the stomach before climbing onto the bus. it was a light punch, just enough to shut the man up.
jungkook walked back to the lounge area, sitting back on the couch and leaning his head against the headrest. six more hours and then he could eat dinner and go to sleep. it was so simple, a basic routine followed by millions of people around the world — but jungkook felt himself swallowing hard, holding that seashell in his hand as it hung around his neck and only thinking about tomorrow.
