one month seems like a long time, but when it comes to putting a performance together, it goes by too quick. that was taehyungs favorite part, one moment it's 31 days until night one and then all of sudden it's 31 minutes before showtime and everyone is running around backstage in a panic to make sure it all goes smoothly. that's why they planned so well, so nothing would go wrong and no one would be running around in a panic.
taehyung still enjoyed it. he liked being the one to go on stage and face those screaming faces with staring eyes all on him, and then people behind the safety of a stage feel like they should be the ones feeling nervous. he didn't think much of it, no one knew the difference. maybe if they experienced what it was like to feel those spotlights burning skin and screams so loud it drowns out any other sounds or thoughts — maybe they'd want it too. all it took was a little taste, just a sip of that pretty flavor called attention and soon everyone would want it like a drug.
it's like he could picture it already, all those faces that looked identical when in a crowd, just open mouths screaming and tears falling down cheeks. they adored him — and it made taehyung smirk just thinking about it.
he stood on the stage, the one he would be performing at in a month. they were suppose to be bringing set pieces and equipment over, today wasn't soundcheck day but he still wanted to come and look. taehyung closed his eyes for a moment and tried to imagine it was already showtime, it's been too long since the last show. he's addicted.
"fantasizing?" it was a single word, hard to tell much from few syllables as well as having eyes closed, but taehyung could tell who it was. his electric guitarist was very unique, not quite the personality one would expect to see from a member in a rock band, but the stage always unleashes something in people.
taehyung grinned and turned to his band mate, and friend, giving the slightly shorter male a hug. "i'm always fantasizing, yoongi." he said before separating from the quick hug.
"not too long now." the male said, the two of them standing beside each other and staring out at the sea of empty seats just waiting to be filled and never left. taehyung just nodded but neither spoke after that, it was too nice of a thought and a sight to ruin with words.
taehyung broke it, that deep voice breaking through the fantasy. "did you meet the new members." he had asked his friend, receiving a nod that wasn't surprising. "yeah, at that meetings like a week ago." yoongi said.
when it came to the tour, kim taehyung was the main attraction. he was the star and the prime jewel that had people opening their wallets and spilling cash like it was nothing, but his band meant everything to him. they were just as much a part of the show as he was, literally. there would be no real rock without those guys. it was their energy that gave taehyung his, what had his heart pumping and soul coming alive at the sound of them playing the music they all lived for.
he looked over at the male, all these thoughts going through his head. yoongi just knew, and he shoved the rockstars shoulder, "don't get sappy. not yet." he said, not really meaning to come across rude. taehyung just chuckled as the guitarist walked off. there was always a night that came, after a show somewhere in the middle of tour where it becomes too much. sometimes things got sappy and there may have been tears and sometimes confessions of love and gratitude for one another. it was all from emotions flying too high, no one talked about it the next day.
taehyung finally left the stage and passed by crew members hustling around and putting things in place so they'd be easier accessible when the date gets closer. there were soundboards and trunks everywhere, chords and equipment that taehyung knew were useful but for what, he had no clue.
"you ready?" his manager came from nowhere, like a ghost that sent shivers down taehyungs back when he spoke so close. the rockstar jumped at the sound and turned around, glaring at the male in a playful way almost. "that's not cool." taehyung said.
"i breathed." namjoon said, not looking up from his phone. they had driven here together, well namjoon drove and taehyung jumped in the passenger seat without asking. the young rockstar didn't have a car, not when he had drivers and tour buses and jets. "i'll drop you off." the manager said, already walking off through the backstage area towards the loading area where trucks and staff vehicles were parked.
taehyung followed of course, knowing very well he didn't have the patience to wait for his driver to come when he had a ride right now. "actually i need to go back to the offices. i left my bag." it was true. he had gone there this morning for vocal lessons, and then dipped as soon as he could when he got too bored. that accidentally meant leaving before he grabbed his bag that sat so neatly on the table.
"i'm not surprised." namjoon said, a small grin hinting on his face when he got into the car. taehyung just grunted some response, a jab that would be directed more towards a friend rather than a manager. they had that type of relationship, and taehyung got into the passenger seat knowing they'd probably throw some remarks back and forth until they were in public again or around other coworkers. it always got professional then.
the drive was sorta long, only half an hour and namjoon slowed down outside the entertainment building for the boy to get out. "thank you." taehyung said, waving goodbye and standing on the sidewalk until the car disappeared down the city street. he has a mask pulled up over his mouth and nose, sunglasses as well hiding most of his face and blending in with others out today.
he didn't stay outside long though, the bottoms of his shoes echoing with each up to the front doors and through the lobby. taehyung nodded to the front desk lady, routine now and barely meaning anything besides habit. it was getting late, no one was here since most of the team was at the venue or not working today. that's why the light underneath the door had his steps halting, staring at that strip of yellow and wondering who would even be here now.
taehyung pushed the door open with the front of his shiny shoe, glancing in and seeing the designer room. he expected the tables and mirrors and trunks all lined up ready to beside the clothing racks holding various outfits for him. what he didn't expect was a certain ravenette to be sitting in one of the chairs, leaning over and sketchpad and barely paying attention to whoever was walking in.
"you're still here?" taehyung asked. he had taken off his sunglasses and pulled down the mask, walking over to the table and looking over the mans shoulder.
jungkook was surprised that someone walked in, but he didn't show it. that didn't mean he didn't feel his stomach drop and blood go cold for a moment, staring down at the drawing in front of him — long black hair, flowy fabrics on a small frame and a pretty face soon being obscured by his hands as he closed the notebook. "yes." jungkook simply said.
"why though." taehyung asked, he saw the sketch partially, something odd and peaking his interest when it was clearly not something meant for him to see, not by how it was hidden from his eyes. the stylist rubbed his eyes, not realizing until now how they had started to ache from staring at the paper for so long. "you wanted some changes to your outfits." jungkook said plainly, remembering when the rockstar came in and was only partially pleased by what his team came up with.
the rockstar frowned, a churn in his stomach following. "that didn't mean do it right away." he pointed out, knowing very well the man could have waited a few more days when the whole design team would be in to help out. jungkook just shrugged and looked back at the now closed sketchbook. "i had time. it's okay."
taehyung just nodded then and pulled out the seat beside the ravenette. "can i see?" he asked, looking at the males side profile and feeling his stomach churn again when they made eye contact.
"you're the boss." was all jungkook said, and the young rockstar thought he'd be able to peek at what the male was just now drawing, whoever that woman was. instead, he frowned again when jungkook took the sketchbook from underneath that one and slid it over. it was the one from last time they were in here with hoseok and the rest of the team, the old designs still there with notes scribbled all over the sides and markings made on models.
apparently the one the man had been drawing in was his own, which taehyung now saw him shove deeply into his backpack sitting on the floor beside him. he didn't realize he was staring, very obviously being nosy, until jungkook looked over and rose an eyebrow. "uh y-yeah well i'm sure i'll love them this time." taehyung cleared his throat and started flipping through the new ideas and stage outfits for his show.
he definitely liked them better, and on a normal night he might have checked them out a little more to be super sure. except tonight wasn't a normal night and he felt stupid for staring. "i love them." taehyung said shortly, leaving the book and standing up again. "send them to print and tell namjoon it's a go. hoseok can order what we need tomorrow and have someone write up the receipts for budgeting." the boy wasn't dumb, he knew what he was doing and was clearly involved in his own production. it's not like the rockstar just had everyone do everything for thing — even though he still kind of did, according to jungkook that is.
"no problem." all his replies seemed to be short like that, nothing extra or personality added to the words leaving those thin pink lips. it sucked. not being able to read someone so easily. it had taehyung frowning again and standing there for a moment, still staring.
he stopped when jungkook looked up, realizing the guy was still there and not saying anything. so he rose his eyebrow again, and taehyung just awkwardly waved before dipping out the room almost as quick as he came the first time. "weird kid." jungkook mumbled to himself, now feeling more exhausted but happy that he didn't have to sit again for some hours planning more outfits.
what he didn't know was that weird kid was now beating himself up out in the hall, a string of mumbles and profanities escaping while he rolled his eyes at himself. "he's so annoying." taehyung thought out loud, for some reason feeling that way towards the guy he barely knew. normally it didn't take long for people to like taehyung, or for him to like people.
people generally fell in love with him pretty quickly, but for some reason jungkook wasn't one of them. taehyung didn't realize something like that would bother him, being who he was he tried not to let things get to his head too much — whether that be the praise which could lead him away from the want to be humble, or the hate that only came from those too unfortunate and too jealous of his success. what he realized was that jungkook fell into neither of those, the man was fucking neutral and seemed to have no emotions what's so ever towards the rockstar.
he's like a statue. taehyung thought, pushing open the studio door and looking for his bag from earlier that day. a fucking attractive statue carved from stone from the finest lands in some country no one could pronounce.
but it's only been a few days, and the two would spend a lot of time together over the following months. taehyung picked up his bag and smiled at that thought, making a silent deal with himself to get the handsome raventte to come out of that stoney persona and be more comfortable around the rockstar.
