the stage was dark, no lights and no sound giving away what would come next. there was a hum going over the crowd, nothing but anticipation and hands gripping onto plastic cups of liquor to help calm those energetic nerves for seeing someone they admired.
it started with a glow of red light across the stage, not quite revealing anything yet but adding to the excitement in the arena as the volume increased and people started to stomp their feet. no one was sitting any longer, not as the steady beat of a drum came in and the subtle strum of a guitar on every down beat.
there was nothing like it. the way that anticipation seemed to increase and just waiting for those lights to shoot on and illuminate the stage. the darkness seemed to create this ominous waiting, everyone knew what was coming. that steady beat and strum was so distinct, everyone knew the words that would follow and the shouts that would want to drown them out but stood no chance.
"bought a beat up six string in a second hand store. didn't know how to play it, but i knew for sure."
the way his voice went low at the end of the verse, sending shivers and screams over the crowd. the stage glowed, shining spotlights on the lead singer and all his glory, standing there in a suit no one else could pull off. he felt them too, the shivers that went down his spine at singing the words so familiar to him. his body moved with the beat, his leg jutting out to his each and every one.
it was steady still, that build up to the break in the music where it was all released and had everyone living their best listening to one of the greatest hits. taehyung smirked up there on the stage. he knew he had all them in the palm of his hands — and he was never letting go.
"just one guitar somewhere down low. was a one way ticket, only one way to go."
yoongi loved this part, where he could come in and hold nothing back on the drums, seeing the way his friend hit every beat with either a kick or a fist to the air. taehyung tore off the mic from the stand as the chorus came, leaving never back and wanting his soul to sing everything for him.
"so i started rockin'. ain't never gonna stop no! gotta keep on rockin'. some day i'm gonna make it to the top and sing."
he had made it to the top, but maybe he thought there was more. maybe that's why he kept singing these songs and thinking he never reached his true potential, never got everything he really wanted. those weren't things taehyung wanted to think about now, not when he was in his paradise and letting himself get blinded by the lights and the drowned by the screams of his lyrics and his own name.
they watched from their seats, they watched from the sides of the stage. everyone had their eyes on him and only him. at one point in his life that would have been terrifying, thinking everyone could see what he was doing and point out anything he did wrong. none of that mattered now, not when he built his career around the love people had for him. taehyung was invincible.
he even seemed like it, but so did other people. some people seemed all dark and mysterious, quiet and oddly employed in an area that didn't seem to suite them. they seemed strong and intimidating, like nothing could get past that steely exterior and chip away at what's inside them. jungkook seemed invincible. people looked at him and saw a strong and attractive man, like that's all he was worth. but he wasn't even that much. there was nothing to see inside, nothing to hide there and nothing to chip away at. jungkook really had nothing any more.
but for one night, he could stand there and do his job. he could watch the male tear up the stage and leave people with sore throats and teary eyes. he could wait for the rockstar to come off the side and wipe away his sweat while touching up his makeup and ordering his team to help with cooling the male off and getting him whatever he needed.
it was everything jungkook wanted and needed. he craved that distraction from life, no matter how irritating it was to cater to someone that didn't seem to realize how good his life was. it would only be some months to deal with it, until the tour ended and the ravenette needed to find another job to keep him busy.
jungkook didn't think it would go by so fast. but soon the last song finished and sparks erupted around the stage making it look like it was on fire. the chants didn't die down and neither did the adrenaline running through everyone working backstage. they had made it through one night, and now only had 38 more shows to go before they ended in tokyo.
everyone seemed to agree that it went by so quick, even taehyung would was giving his in-ears and mic back to one of the sound crew guys. "nice job taehyung, and everyone else." namjoon congratulated, and was quick to add everyone else in that as well.
the rockstar grinned, sweat dripping down his back and his temples. "thanks. i'm gonna change and then jungle here we come." he hugged his manager before walking fast down the corridor to get to the wardrobe room.
the jungle was a club in the fancy part of seoul, very exclusive and very aware that he was going to be there tonight. he did a lot of his celebratory after parties there. taehyung was still grinning, even when he shoved open the door and noticed there was only one other person there in the room. they had night two tomorrow, so there was no need to pack up or put things into the tour bus or jet. the stylist however still felt the need to clean up his things some more to be ready for tomorrow.
"hey." taehyung smiled, walking up the ravenette. "what did you think."
jungkook counted his second set of brushes again after cleaning the others. "you did well." was all he said, not looking up from his station.
"do you have a favorite song now?" taehyung asked, sitting in the chair and spinning around a few times before stopping and facing the other male who still seemed to be too busy cleaning up. taehyung frowned at the lack of attention.
"uh, the first song." jungkook said. he crouched to close the makeup case sitting on the floor after organizing the blenders and concealers in their little section.
"are you just saying that or is that actually your favorite song." the rockstar kept pushing that question.
jungkook just sighed and stood up, finally looking at the boy who sat there in the chair with an eyebrow raised. he was still in his last stage outfit, which was just a pair of jeans and a loose black tank top with chains hanging around his neck. he looked fucking good, but jungkook ignore that, "i don't know taehyung, am i just saying that."
"wow." taehyung stood from the chair and walked to where his clothes were, the normal ones he had brought with him from home. "you really suck at answering questions." he said, taking off the tank top with his back to the stylist, tugging on a clean t-shirt instead.
that just seemed to trigger the older male, because he somewhat slammed the top of the case shut as he stood up. "and you suck at asking questions." jungkook shot back.
"i'm just trying to get to know you." taehyung turned now, pausing as he changed. the adrenaline from the show had started to ware off, but it only came back seeing how his stylist was clearly angry. this is not how he pictured talking to the male.
jungkook chuckled and shook his head, picking up his bag and slinging it over his shoulder. "no you're not." he said it calmly, like he suddenly wasn't mad anymore and that little slip of emotion was an accident. "you ask me things, but it's still all about you."
he was suppose to be angry. he was suppose to say something mean back and hurt the guys feelings — but taehyung just stood there and felt his chest rise and fall. "i came to ask if you were coming to the after party." he still wanted to ravenette to come with them.
that wasn't the case though, not as jungkook walked to the door and shoved it open. "no thanks." he wasn't going to spend another night with people trying to get drunk with each other on shit that costs too much. sitting alone in his apartment seemed a lot more pleasing, no matter how much he was starting to like seeing the rockstar.
