Wildpaw's heart thudded uncomfortably against her chest. It was the half moon that she got her full medicine cat name. She'd been training with Amberfeather for ages and it was one day until her siblings' warrior ceremony. She glanced around at her fellow medicine cats. Ivywood, Brickslash, Jasminetail, Stripewhisker, Batheart, Stripedpaw, Dovepaw and Amberfeather.
They headed into the cavern.
"Before we begin, I would like to give Wildpaw her full name as a medicine cat,"Amberfeather declared.
"Come forward,"her mother beckoned.
Wildpaw tripped.
"I, Amberfeather, medicine cat of ThunderClan, call upon warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. She has trained hard to understand the ways of medicine cat, and with your help she will serve her Clan for many moons,"
She hardly dared to breathe, hoping if she kept her breath the moment would last forever.
"Wildpaw, do you promise to uphold the ways of medicine cat, to stand apart from rivalty between Clan and Clan, and protect all cats equally, even at the cost of your life?"
Wildpaw said the final words that she ever would as an apprentice,"I do,"
"Then by the powers of StarClan I give you your true name as a medicine cat. Wildpaw, from this moment on you will be known as Wildfern, in memory of the fern that saved you when you were a kit. StarClan honours your calm-mind and skill,"
"Wildfern! Wildfern!"the cats chanted.
I can't believe it...I'm a full medicine cat! Great StarClan I'm so happy!
"Well done!"
"You earned it, Wildfern,"
"Thank you!"

"Whiteface! Muddyleaf! Badgerclaw! Poppyheart!"yowls exploded from the Clan. Redstar and her deputy Berrythorn gazed down at their former apprentices with pride, while Birdfly had turned his head away, small sniffs suggesting that he didn't want his Clan to see him crying.
Pride burst through Wildfern.
"We should just...give up on trying to prove our loyalty,"
"No! You need to stop trying!"
And now look at them...
"Amberfeather, when's Dandelionshade coming?"she heard Oddeye question.
"I don't know...but I'll go find out,"she plodded out of camp, congratulating her kits as she went by.
Well, I'll get something to eat and then check our herb supplies.
Wildfern padded over to the pile, picking out a plump rabbit.
After savouring the flavour for a minute, she padded into her den. She shuddered. That rabbit might be the last piece of fresh-kill that I ever eat.
The thought brought shudders along her spine. No, that's not going to happen...I hope.
