Chapter 4: Castle Of Cobwebs And Blood, Part 2: Trickery Is In Our Veins

Suddenly feeling a burst of violent bloodlust, I happily run with immense speed throughout the dark, broody halls of the Vampire King's castle. I've only spent a few hours here and already has an attack taken place. Personally, I could care less if Lucien gets injured or worse, killed, but as the Protector I made an oath to protect my citizens, wether they be assholes or not.

I turn a sharp corner and slide against the walls to increase my speed. I follow the trail of blood and eventually come across Lucien's bedroom. Blood drips from the walls of the bedroom and pools of it scatter around the floor. I find the room empty and the quietness clinging to the air brings suspicion to my thoughts. I peer my eyes through the darkness and quietly scan the room for Lucien, but the blasted King isn't around.

I sigh and turn on my heel to exit the room, but I suddenly catch a whiff of a peculiar scent. At first, the blood may have been enough to mask the grotesque odor, but now, thanks to a gush of wind blowing from the shattered window in the background, the blood isn't nearly half as bad as the newfound horrible stench.

My eyes widen and I stand in the same spot without daring to move a muscle. I summon a sword and my enchanted belt materializes it in midair, the sword appears with a beam of light surrounding it as it gracefully drops into my hand as if it was meant to be there. I clutch the gold encrusted handle and slice at the air in front of me, as if an enemy was already standing before me.

"No need to pretend you're not here, foul demons. I sniffed out your scent the moment I stepped into the room."

I smile triumphantly to myself and wait patiently as hordes of demons drop from the ceiling, landing on the floor with a thunk and showing off the prey they just captured. I snort when I see the demons clutch Lucien threateningly against them, and the sight brings me amusement. It's also certainly entertaining to see Lucien gagged.

"Hmph...how foolish you are." I raise my sword and allow the demons to see the blade's menacing glint. I chuckle maniacally and a bloodthirsty expression overcomes me as I swiftly handle the demons. They snarl and growl like animals and pounce on me all at once, however one demon stays behind to continue imprisoning Lucien.

I lash at the demons and leave severe wounds on their chests, every last one of them squirting blood in the process. I hum happily as their blood smears on the side of my face and makes it seem my cheek is bleeding. Yeah, right. I swiftly dodge the demons and land on my feet with grace as I kill off my enemies.

I've kept my vision pinned on the demon holding Lucien and I can tell that my excessive smiling has freaked him out, well the demon of course. Even during this sort of situation, Lucien doesn't seem to be shaken up or at least afraid. He's stayed composed and calm this entire time and his expression is really starting to bore me.

After striking a demon, I press my foot against his chest and struggle to rip my sword out of his heart. The sword slowly slithered out of the demon's flesh and every moment I saw blood drip elegantly from the blade, satisfaction was clearly demonstrated on my face. After my enjoyment, I slowly walked toward the fear-sickened demon shaking nervously, but still restraining Lucien, and I put on a deadly glare.

Once I came face to face with the demon, I raised my head and whispered diabolically into his ear. "I would be more than happy to let you kill him, however my Queen would be quite disappointed in me if I did, so why don't you put him down and run along now." After grabbing on to a hidden dagger inside my boot, I raise and place it threatening against the demon's neck.

Of course, he didn't give in too easily, so I decide to stop wasting time and slit his throat already.

The demon instantly fell backwards and landed on the floor, dead. Lucien gracefully took the cloth from his mouth and clasped his hand behind his back, walking toward the door as composed as ever. "Excellent work, however you were sloppy and left a mess." Ignoring the smart remark, I roll my eyes and walk past Lucien.

"Why are the demons attacking? They haven't paid attention to this district in decades." I stand protectively in front of Lucien as I guide him through a safe path. "If I knew I wouldn't need you here, now would I?" I forcefully plaster a calm expression on my face after second-guessing myself for saving this vampire.

"You make a good point, your highness". I roll my eyes as I sarcastically speak towards the vampire and usher him quietly towards the entrance of the castle. "Why are we retreating?! My servants are still inside!" I groan reluctantly and shove the king outside. I raise my nose and sniff at the air around us. I find no traces of hidden demons and decide this is the safest place for the royal brat to stay.

"I know! Stay here and hide inside one of the trees while I focus on saving everyone else!" I point towards a huge, sturdy tree and Lucien looks at it confusingly. "Are you mad? How am I supposed to go inside a damn tree?!" I grumble behind grit teeth and point furiously at the tree.

Lucien raises an eyebrow and stares at the tree. A one-way hole forms inside the hallow spot of the tree and I shove Lucien inside. Then the bark of the tree covers the hole, allowing the vampire a safe, hidden place to stay. "Idiot! Like he doesn't know we actually live in a world of madness!"

I grumble under my breath and race back inside the castle's walls. I debate wether I should rescue the servants and throw them outside, or if I should kill off all the demons and get rid of the danger inside, but knowing me I choose the second option.

I smirk and pull out the dagger I had earlier. I take a deep breath and slam the sharp blade into my soft flesh. I howl with pain and slam the dagger again and again into my belly, until I see a reasonable amount of blood pour all over the tile floor. My hands begin to shake and I tremble as I fall to the ground.

I gasp for air and I feel blood rushing up to my mouth. The disgusting copper taste floods the inside of my mouth and I throw it up. My throat begins to burn as the liquid keeps coming back up and I keep throwing it up. Eventually my plan works and demons begin to crowd around me.

They fill up the room with numbers and I can tell every last one of them have left their prey and come for a more tasty meal, me. I grin as my scent has attracted them and put them into a feeding frenzy. I shakily stand up and clutch my belly as I face the demons.

They all race towards me and snarl as they bare their frightening teeth. I laugh at them and let them all jump on me. The demons chew and rip at my skin, but the temporary pain disappears when I set my entire body on fire. I use my magic and a quick spell to turn the flames blue. They become even more powerful and they burn the demons to a crisp.

I chuckle as I watch the demons burn away after falling straight into my trap. My smile slowly fades as I realize the amount of blood I've lost. The color red seems to be the only thing I see as I begin to black out.

Before my eyelids close, I catch a glimpse of a man with light brown hair and beautiful crystal, blue eyes walk towards me. He squats down and lightly cups my cheek. The sensation of his freezing hand is the last thing I feel before blacking out.

~

My eyelids slowly open and I sluggishly move around whatever furniture I'm on. I feel around and notice I'm under warm, fluffy covers. "A..bed..?" I sit up straight and stare confusingly at my body. I'm wearing the familiar crop top with long sleeves and a short skirt, with the same color and pattern: red and purple, with flower and vine print.

"Damn...I remember now.." I groan as I realize the flowers from Lucien's back garden must have slithered and found their way to me, healing me and letting their petals rest on my body to replace my clothing. "At least their petals turn into clothing..." I grumble under my breath and slide off the bed, but something suddenly falls out as I get off.

A sterling silver, swirl-style, three diamond pendent.

"Shit...this looks expensive..!" I quickly pick up the necklace and carefully hold it in my hand. I stare at the diamonds and the gorgeous glisten of the jewelry seems to enchant me. It's absolutely beautiful and deep inside I wish it was mine.

"My lady! You're awake!"

Snapping out of my daze, I raise my head and find a flustered maid blushing beside the door. I raise an eyebrow and realize vampires aren't accustomed to seeing so much skin from a woman. I sigh and jump back inside the bed and cover my body with the covers. "How long was I out?"

The maid opens her mouth but her words never come out when someone else interrupts her. A figure of a stern woman glides from the hallway and into the room. "A day, or 7 hours, 34 minutes, and 20 seconds to be exact." Glasses and a pencil skirt come into view as I realize the woman, now standing next to my bed, is none other than Ida Lucile.

"W..What the hell are you doing here..?" Baffled by her sudden appearance, I can only gawk at Ida as she grins and brings out her clipboard. "I hate repeating myself, but this time I'll make an exception...I am your supervisor, you belittling brat!" I choke back on my retorts and force a smile on my face.

"You're making no sense, you old hag!" Ida twitches with anger and she too plasters a fake smile on her face. We both argue back and forth behind grit teeth and fake smiles. "Now, now ladies, do not waste your breaths on each other if you have nothing of value to say." Both Ida and I confusingly turn around to the voice of Lucien.

Ida flinches and quickly bows to the vampire. I huff and cross my arms as I notice his annoying presence step into the room. "Your majesty..! Please forgive my rudeness." Ida, of course, shrinks back in fear and gives her respect to Lucien. The vampire nods his head and walks towards me with an emotionless expression.

"Protector, you have passed my test and proven yourself worthy of your title and my approval."

Stunned by Lucien's words, my head sharply turns toward the vampire and I stare in awe at his face. My shock fades as anger replaces it after my realization. "You mean to tell me that you just called me over here to do that damn test?! I thought you were actually in grave danger!" Lucien sighs and stares at Ida as she scribbles something on her clipboard.

"Ms. Lucile can provide evidence that the demons used for this test were indeed real. I was truly in danger, but I had a plan B if you decide to go back on your word and leave me to die." I hold back a growl and throw the covers off my body. Lucien takes one peek and an instant blush forms on his face.

I roll my eyes and stomp out the room. Ida chases after me and I have to use my entire will power to keep me from attacking her. "Where do you think you're going?!" I clench my fists and glare at Ida. "Home! I passed the test, didn't I?!" Ida stares at me as she realizes there's no need to follow behind me.

"Y..Yes..but..! But you can't just storm out of the Vampire King's castle like this!" I scoff at Ida and ignore her protests as I make my way to the grand entrance. I hurriedly leave behind an irritating fire elemental as I turned a sharp corner. Blinded by my anger, I didn't realize where I was going and ended up slamming into someone.

"Oh! I'm sorry—", I raise my head and the moment I catch a glimpse at the person's face, I almost growl. "This again?!" I shove past Lucien, but the sudden grasp of my arm halts me. I roll my eyes and turn my head around fiercely as I ready myself to glare at the vampire.

However, he doesn't react to my angry antics and only stares at me with a grin. "Oh dear Protector, what sort of image will you set for your Queen if you rudely barge out of my castle like this, especially while wearing such a skimpy outfit..hm?" My eyes widen and my anger dies down as reason floods mind again.

"Tch..! Forgive me your highness...I wasn't thinking." Lucien's smile widens and I rip my arm from his grasp as I storm back toward the room. On my way, Ida smirks and her obvious taunting expression angers me. I clench my fists and hold back any rude comments.

I jump back under the covers of the bed and drag the bedsheets over my head. "My, you act so childish sometimes—oh wait, that's because you actually are a child." Disgust fills my ears as I head Ida's cursed words. "The only one acting like a child here, is you. Don't you have anything better to do than hang around me?" My retort brings a sigh to Ida's lips and with my impeccable hearing, I can hear her shove her glasses up the bridge of her nose.

I chuckle and hug the pillow beside me. "I can't exactly leave you alone until you've left for yourself, then you won't be my problem anymore." I hear the bed creak and realize Ida must have sat beside me. My eyes wonder to the creases of the bedsheets and I imagine Ida sitting comfortably beside me. "Who assigned you to be my supervisor? Was it against your will, it seems like it."

My anger seems to die down as I begin a casual conversation with the strict woman. "The Queen didn't choose me, it was her steward butler. I was actually given the option to serve this role if I wanted to or not, and as you can see I did it on my own accord." My ears seem to twitch as curiosity perks my interest. I take the bedsheets off my head and sit up straight to face Ida.

"Then why? It's obvious you loathe me, so why would you accept this role?" As Ida turns her head around to face me, the light of the sun shining through the window cast a glare on Ida's glasses, making it impossible to read her expression. "I don't loathe you, but I don't care about you either. I am not your friend, I am simply your supervisor, and as your supervisor it is my duty to reassure all the district leader's concerns of your possible betrayal with cold, hard facts. I provoke you, I taunt you, and I will continue to do so until I have confirmed you will never hurt an innocent bystander in spite of this."

I stare at Ida for a moment and realize I'm a mere project to her. I chuckle as I realize I have more in common with this woman than I thought I did. "I understand, you're not doing this to ruin my life, you're doing this because you care, well not for me but for The Kingdoms that is." Ida nods her head and on the inside I'm praising her methods.

"Now that I've answered your questions, how about you answer mine."

My eyes pop open and dart away from Ida's gaze. "What do you mean?" Ida snorts and brings her face closer to me as she points to her glasses. "An eye for an eye, Protector." I sigh as I realize I'm in a tight position. I rub my head and shrug my shoulders to show her I'm all for it. "Alright, let's start with your power. You're young, inexperienced, and your magic is obviously wasted on you. Why did the Queen think you truly deserved this title?"

My eyes are half open and I'm giving Ida a look that means 'really?'. Ida stands her ground and crosses her arms to usher me to answer. I sigh and stare off into the ceiling as I ponder the question. "It's not a matter of whether I deserve it or not, it was simply given to me because no one else would be able to supersede it." I plaster a bored expression on my face and watch Ida's reaction. She nods her head and places a finger on her chin, and the sudden movement reminds me of Siva.

"I can't argue with that, you have proven yourself quite the unstoppable foe for our enemies, but what I can't seem to understand is why she chose you. Of all the other more capable warriors out there, why did it have to be you? Was it something personal?" My eyes widen and my boredom seems to disappear after hearing Ida's question. I avert my gaze and stare at the floor as a more gruesome response dances in my thoughts.

"Tell me four eyes, could you bear the horrid, excruciatingly retched pain that comes from killing someone so easily? Could you give up everything you love to follow and serve your duty wholeheartedly?",

Silence.

Everything goes silent.

I chuckle as I realize my human features have turned into something more hellish. After memories of my past murders spring into my head, I suppose my magic must have turned me into the monster I really am. My pupils have slit, fangs have sprouted out of my mouth, and claws have replaced my polished nails.

I avert my attention from the silence clinging to the air and return to the trembling figure known as Ida. I'm merely staring at her with a sangfroid expression now. I sigh and feel my hellish features fade away as I turn back into my human form. I rise off the bed and take a few steps away from Ida.

"That is why the Queen chose me, because she knows that without this power and duty she gave me...I..I..", I stumble to find the right words and Ida can only gaze at the floor, unable to meet my gaze...or more like too scared.

"I..I have nothing. Nothing will remain of me if I lose her...if I lose the Queen....I need her." These last few words escape my lips through a faint whisper, but with the way Ida stormed out of the room, I'm positive she heard me loud and clear. After confessing my true feelings toward the Queen, I could only continue to stand still and emotionless.

"Hmph...what a troublesome woman."

A devilish grin spreads across my face as if evil could be an facial expression. I let my hand cover my mouth as I muffle maniacal laughter. I shake my head as I think about the easily manipulative woman and joyfully hop onto my bed. "I must say, with the way you easily tricked Ms. Lucile, you remind me so much of the Queen."

My gleeful state crumbles when I hear a blasted vampire's voice hover above me. "Must you always compare me to my beloved Queen? I find it very annoying, my lord." I open my eyes and find Lucien's beautiful, white hair cascading down onto my cheeks. Lucien has a hand on either side of my head and I feel as if I've been trapped.

"You should take it as a compliment. Having the Vampire King spend so much time thinking about you, well I would find that quite flattering." I raise an eyebrow and question the vampire's every motive for acting this way. "Wouldn't you rather be with one of your concubines instead of with me? They're much more beautiful." I shove Lucien off me and get off the bed to take a few steps away from the vampire.

Lucien stares at me confusingly and his expression changes to a frown. "Do you actually think I'm attracted to you? Oh please don't think such childish things, I am simply looking for entertainment, my dear." Disgust quickly spreads over my face and out of rage I pinch my nose as I address the vampire.

"Then go look for it somewhere else, because it sure as hell isn't here."

I sharply turn around and walk out of the room, but once again I feel a sudden grip on my wrist. "This is becoming cliche at this point." I mock Lucien and he only frowns and narrows his eyebrows at me. I smile and wink at him tauntingly as I walk back inside the halls that lead to the grand entrance.

I grin as I past several trembling servants. Some can't decided wether to feel pity for me or to cower in my presence from the horrid fear they also feel. I muffle a few more fits of laughter as I begin to leave the castle, with or without the king's approval.

As I reach the giant gates, I pull out my phone and call a certain someone. "Siva, forget about sending my clothing. I've killed off all the demons and it's all done and over with. I'll be home shortly." My loyal butler sighs happily and his reaction lightens my mood. "Thank goodness, I'll have a warm bubble bath prepared for you when you come home. I'll make sure to make you cheesecake with your tea as well."

I stop dead in my tracks and gawk at the words I've just heard from my butler. "Who are you and what have you done with Siva?!" I ask jokingly and I can hear my butler chuckle in the background. "I am simply your faithful guardian, Young Mistress. And let's not forget about the rest of your servants anxiously waiting your arrival too." I smile as I realize he's talking about the others.

I say my goodbyes to Siva and hang up. I let a kind smile spread on my face as I quietly forget all the stress and chaos Lucien has put me through. I stop walking as I reach the familiar woods and a sudden thought flickers in my mind.

"Evan."

Just with the way I say his name, a blush furiously spreads across my face as a reaction. I sigh as I realize my urge to see him is far greater than my hurry to get home. I shake my head and decide to pay my lover a quick visit.

"I wonder how's he doing. I hope he hasn't missed me too much." I mumble under my breath as I use my paranormal speed to quicken my pace. I jump over trees and skid past roads as I race to find Evan's mansion. I transform my body and use my wolffish nose to sniff out his scent.

I pick up on his intoxicatingly, alluring smell and pure ecstasy forms on my face. I feel pleasure by just merely getting whiffs of his scent and the feeling is beginning to drown me in it. I shake my head and let reason flood my thinking again as I continue to search for Evan.

My searching comes to an end when I find the mansion hidden well inside the demonic forest. My smile becomes unusually wide and for the weirdest reason, I'm overjoyed to see Evan's face again, to witness his playful, seducing antics, and to finally feel the warmth and comfort of his strong, lean arms around me.

I land on the floor with a thunk and make the ground shake from my tremendous amount of power. I feel complete happiness possess me as I burst through the doors and look for that mischievous bastard. I find one of his demon servants and he points me to the way of Evan's study room. I thank him with a cute smile and race even faster to see my lover.

You can't imagine how much joy and excitement has compelled me to slam that door open and to jump into Evan's embrace. "Hey! Where are you—",

However, the moment I thrust the door to his study open, a vile scene brings shock and remorse to my feelings from before.

I find Evan hovering above a woman, pinning her down on his desk.
