The next month went by quickly for Snowflake.

Suddenly,  one day while they were outside playing, the 101 people on the mission came back.

Snowflake was looking for her father when suddenly, someone picked her up from behind.

"Daddy!!!"

"Hey baby girl, did you miss me?"

"Yes! Lots. Never leave again. Never, ever, ever, ever, ever-"

"Ok, I get it sweetheart. "

"Good. Cuz you left me. And they're weird. "

"Hey!!!" Thorin exclaimed,  looking up at the little girl who had become like a sister to him.

Her father chuckled at the exchange.

Time Skip:

One day, many years later, Snowflake was with her father and Prince Thorin. The two men were discussing battle tactics and such, so she kind of zoned out.

"Well aren't you a pretty one?" one of the dwarves in the vicinity, Balin commented.

"Thanks," she replied blushing.

The first they heard was a noise like a hurricane coming down from the north. The pines on the mountain creaked and cracked in the hot, dry wind.

“Balin, sound the alarm. Call out the guard. Do it now!” Thorin ordered. Snowfalke was scared. She still didn't like storms, and this sounded like one.

“What is it?” Balin asked.

“Dragon. Dragon!!!" Thorin yelled, stepping inside.

A roar sounded, and torrents of fire rain all over Erebor; Thorin pulls Balin behind a pillar just in time to save him from being burned. Snowflake's father, Will, did the same for his daughter.

He was a fire drake from the north. Smaug had come.

The kites from earlier suddenly burned away. The people in the town of Dale screamed in fear and panic as Smaug destroyed their city, setting fire to many buildings and demolishing others. They only see slightly glimpses of Smaug as he swoops about, breathing fire and destroying buildings by smashing into them. A little girl cried as she watched her doll burn in the street.

Such wanton death was dealt that day, for this city of men was nothing to Smaug; his eye was set on another prize. For dragons covet gold, with a dark and fierce desire.

Thorin and Thror, along with many other Dwarf soldiers including Snowflake's father, waited with weapons ready behind the gates of Erebor. Fire bursted through cracks in the gates as Smaug tried to smash his way in. Smaug soon broke through the gate of Erebor and started killing dwarves left and right, trampling them and burning them. Thorin was nearly stepped on by the dragon, but he escaped. Thror fearfully ran to his throne and detached the Arkenstone, running away with it. As he ran through a doorway, he saw Smaug in front of him; tripping, he drops the Arkenstone, and it rolled into a massive pile of gold.

“No!” Thror yelled.

Thorin took him away from the gold and dragon.

Erebor was lost, for a dragon will guard his plunder as long as he lives.

As the dwarves ran away from Erebor, they saw King Thranduil and his elves approaching the mountain. Thorin and the others screamed to the Elves to help them, Snowflake being the loudest, even though she was injured, but Thranduil, astride his elk, turned away.

Thranduil would not risk the lives of his kin against the wrath of the dragon. No help came from the elves that day, or any day since.

Thorin glared in anger at the retreating elves. The remnants of the Dwarf kingdom slowly journeyed across vast, swampy lands. Thorin, at the front, stood on a mountaintop as his people come to him.

Robbed of their homeland, the dwarves of Erebor wandered the wilderness, a once mighty people brought low.

The young dwarf prince took work where he could find it, laboring in the villages of men, but always he remembered the mountain smoke beneath the moon, the trees like torches blazing bright, for he had seen dragon fire in the sky, and his city turned to ash. He never forgave, and he never forgot.

Snowflake never quite recovered from her injuries of that day. She would never be the same.

Her father revealed to her that they never were really from this world. He and her mother had come from somewhere called Arulen where he had previously been a King's Ranger called Will Treaty, and her mother had been a courier, Alyss Mainwaring.

When the army left to fight the Battle of Moria, Snowflake was distraught as she spoke with her father and Thorin.

"This time you both are leaving me." she told Thorin softly the night before.

"Hey, it'll be ok. I'll make sure he doesn't get killed, ans he'll make sure I don't."

"I still don't like this idea. It's not going to work."

"Come on, it's just a couple dumb orcs." he grinned.  Evidentally he shouldn't have joked.

"Thorin, it's not funny! My father is the only family I have left, and I could lose him! I have abandonment issues you know." she scolded, hugging him all the same.

"I'm sorry Snowflake. It eases my nerves."

"It's ok."

The next morning,  the army departed.
