chapter two

On the hunt

SOMEHOW MAXON GOT WRAPPED INTO HELPING go get supplies from Mount Weather. They had been dropped onto the wrong mountain, and while he was happy he was on Earth and it was survivable, he was hungry as hell. He was also hesitant to leave his best friend after they had just reconnected but, she reassured him it was okay.

Which is how he ended up in the middle of the forrest with a group of a few other people.

"Think this flower would look pretty in my hair?" Octavia questioned with a sly smile, looking up towards the blonde boy as they walked side by side.

"Hm, I don't know. Let's see." He snatched one of them out of it's place before pushing her hair back slightly.

She took a breath in as he slid it into her hair, both of them smiling lightly at each other.

"I'd say it does." Maxon finished, before sliding his hands in his pockets and continuing to walk. He couldn't help but admire the way the trees were shaped, and how beautiful the moss looked upon them.

"That flower in your hair is poison sumac." Monty noted as he caught up to them, Jasper not far behind.

"What?" Octavia questioned, quickly smacking it out of her hair.

"The flowers aren't poisonous. They're medicinal, calming, actually." The boy informed her, obviously knowing quite a bit about plants.

"So essentially, I gave you a present and you threw it away." Maxon placed a hand on his chest, closing his eyes with a laugh. "I'm hurt."

"Next one you give me i'll cherish forever I promise." Octavia responded sarcastically as she shoulder bumped the blonde boy, both of them laughing in response.

"Hey, guys, would you try to keep up?" Clarke questioned irritably, making everyone else roll their eyes.

They figured if they were going to have to save everyone, they could at least have a bit of fun doing it.

"Okay, buzzkill." Max mumbled to himself, lightly shaking his head.

"Come on, Clarke. How do you block this all out?" Finn asked simply, gesturing to the forrest around them.

"Well, it's simple. I wonder, why haven't we seen any animals? Maybe it's because there are none. Maybe we've already been exposed to enough radiation to kill us. Sure is pretty though, come on." The Griffin girl spoke, turning on her heel before walking away from them.

"If we're already dead, why rush?" Maxon raised his brow as he followed after her, everyone else doing the same.

"Someone should slip her some poison sumac." Octavia added on, everyone laughing in response.

"That could be arranged." The Reeves boy picked a sumac flower from its place, waving it around. "Oh, Clarke! Want to take Earth's chill pill?"

She simply turned to him for a few seconds with a glare and went back to walking.

"Hm, okay. Guess not." Max popped the flower in his mouth and kept walking, his legs sore from how far they had gone.

... but hey, at least they'd get food by the end of this.

SO FAR, AS MUCH AS SKY WANTED TO LIKE EARTH she was hating it. Mostly because the majority of the kids from the 100 were complete and utter assholes and she couldn't stand them one bit. Murphy and his friends were a prime example of an asshole, and she realized that as she stared at the "artwork" he had written on the drop ship.

"I wouldn't really worry about any of this too much, they are all bark and no bite." She spoke to Wells who was doing his best to ignore the writing as he picked up a few pieces of wood.

Skylar bent down to her knees to help, and gathered a few small pieces in her small, yet rough hands.

"I'm not worried about it." Wells spoke with a shrug before sending a smile her way. "I don't think we've met, i'm Wel—"

"Wells Jaha, yeah. I'm pretty sure everyone on the arc knows who you are." Skylar laughed lightly, pushing her hair shoulders by shaking them a bit. "I'm Skylar."

"Skylar from the sky." The boy pointed his eyes upward, gesturing above them with his lips. "It has a really cool ring to it."

"Than—"

"Find any water yet?" Their conversation was interrupted by a familiar voice making the girl roll her eyes slightly.

"I haven't yet but." Wells sighed as he looked up towards the pair standing in front of them. "I'm going out again and you can come if you want."

"Question, Murphy." Skylar held onto the wood, also holding in a laugh of her own. "When you say first son, first to d-y-e, does that mean you are going to give Wells a dye job because, i'd love to go next if you are opening up an Earth salon."

"You know, Sky, it's all fun and games but, my father, he begged for mercy in the airlock chamber when his father floated him. You wanna know who else's dad did? Yours." Murphy's words reminded Sky they used to be friends long ago, and she cleared her throat as she looked away from him.

"I think that's enough." Wells took the wood from Skylar's arms and threw it to the ground before taking her hand lightly and pulling her along with him. "In case what she said didn't get through to you, you spelt the word die wrong, geniuses."

The pair walked between the two boys hovering around them and as they did, the Estrada girl seen the janitor from the ship once again.

She was going to need to talk to him whenever she got the chance.

SO FAR MAX'S TIME ON EARTH HAD BEEN AMAZING. His arms were wrapped around Monty as Jasper as they trudged along, talking about nothing and everything all at the same time. They had just came across a deer, a disgusting one, and found out the arc was dying but, there wasn't a reason to be sad.

He had no family there, not anymore.

"So, you boys got girlfriends, or boyfriends, I don't judge." He spoke with a laugh, shaking both the younger kids.

"I've never even come close, Jasper has a little crush though, her name is Amity." Monty was happily dishing all the information with a smile. "We met her before we got canned, and she came to visit us all the time in lock up."

"Hmm, Amity. Sounds like a keeper, bud." Maxon ruffled Jaspers hair, his fingers getting momentarily stuck in the boys goggles.

"Me and Amity are just friends." The Jordan boys face was scarlet red but, only grew deeper as he looked ahead of them. "I love Earth—"

Everyone looked up to see Octavia stripping down to her underwear, getting ready to jump in the water. Max freed his arms from the boys, and reached over to close Clarke's jaw with a laugh. He then shrugged and walked forward, taking off his jacket and pulling his t-shirt over his head.

"Room for one more, tav?" He grinned as the girl smiled back at him, holding her hand out expectantly.

He dropped his things on the ground before making his way over and taking her hand into his own.

"On th—" the Blake girl was stopped by the blonde leaping forward and dragging her into the water with him.

The cool feeling of the river chilled him in a way he had never felt before. It was freeing, calming actually, like a gust of wind surrounding you completely. Max had already forgotten what space was like, he had done that hours ago.

... because he was meant for Earth.

"Care to join us, losers?" He asked jokingly as he stood up, his toes just barely hitting the bottom as he held his arms close enough to Octavia so she wouldn't drown.

"There's not supposed to be a river here." Clarke shook her head lightly, the rest of the boys starting to strip out of their own clothes to get in.

"Come on, the waters feeling fin—"

"Guys, get out of the water!" Jasper warned, the two teens looking toward where his eyes were fixed.

As something came right at them.

Maxon reached to grab Octavia but, the monster was faster and dragged her beneath the water. The Reeves boy dove down and searched the water blindly for her as fast as he could. He finally felt a sharp object at the bottom of the riverbed, and grabbed it into his hands.

"Distract it!" He instructed, the group all confusing the monster by throwing rocks into the water.

Finally, he was able to leap forward and stab the animal with the sharp object in his hand, making it release the Blake girl.

Maxon caught her in his arms and walked her towards the side of the water, placing her gently on a huge rock. The remainder of the group surrounded them as he jumped up breathlessly onto the solid ground beside her.

"Thank you." She spoke in relief, giving the blonde a kiss on the cheek.

"Anytime, Tav."
