Dawn wasn't a morning person and almost everyone knew this.
When she woke up late this morning, she flimsily got out of bed which resulted in a trip to the Hospital Wing and a nasty looking bandage on her forehead: one that made everyone stare at her as she and Colleen entered the Great Hall today. This all happened when she slipped on the way out of the shower and landed down on the wet floor. Another reason why she was not a good morning person was because her head was never in the right spot in the morning. According to Colleen and Drew it was bound to happen eventually because of her reckless behavior.
"This is why you should put a towel on the ground before you get in the shower." Drew, happy and delightful as ever, was telling her. He sat in his usual spot, next to Colleen at the Ravenclaw table. As he was telling her this, he was fixing his blue tie. She always thought that the Ravenclaw colored tie was nicer than the Gryffindor one she was currently wearing. When Drew saw she wasn't paying attention, he appointed her a look, "Dawn you could have really injured yourself!"
"I did!" She complained, hand flying up to gesture towards her white bandage across her forehead. One that made McGonagall sigh when she seen her enter the Great Hall this morning. "I did injure myself. My head hurts."
After that Dawn zoned out of the conversation and picked at the cereal in front of her. As Colleen and Drew were speaking about the new Defence Against The Dark Arts professor that had started.
"If you wanna become Quidditch captain your gonna have to start eating breakfast." Drew gestures to the bacons, eggs and sausages in front of Dawn. "All that protein. Build some muscle."
She holds up her arms.
Drew looks at her unimpressed.
"Fun fact," he grins. "Did you know that Protein is the building block of your muscles. Therefore, eating adequate amounts of protein helps you maintain a-"
Colleen interjects his "fun fact" by shaking her head rapidly and letting out a loud over exaggerated groan, "It's not even nine o'clock. We all know how important protein is."
"You make us both feel dumb!" Dawn adds, pouring herself a cup of tea and accidentally spilling too much over the sides. She leans down and takes a sip of the tea in an attempt to stop it from overflowing. "Me especially."
"You are dumb." he replied, sending them both a sarcastic smile. "How did you do on that Herbology test, Colleen?"
Colleen had been horrible at Herbology whilst it was Drew's favourite subject. Actually everything was Drew's favourite subjects. Dawn did actually study and do the homework but her grades made her Professors think she didn't. She did try and even her mum could testify for this considering she seen how much time she spent during the holidays and breaks studying.
"I got an exceeds expectations." Colleen answers softly with a small shrug. Dawn flicks through the Daily Prophet and gives her a respectful nod at that grade. She tries to ignore the obvious looks between her two friends. "Thanks for the help with it, I wouldn't have passed if not for you. You?"
Drew sheepishly shrugs. "I got an O."
" I failed." Dawn says grinning.
Drew pats her head. "And we still love you."
Dawn fakes a sigh, loud and clear. "Not all of us are Ravenclaws, dear. I never understood why I wasn't put into Ravenclaw. I'm so honest and sincere-"
" Those aren't Ravenclaw qualities." Drew interjects, reading to list them off the top of his head. "Ravenclaw qualities are....never mind."
She lets out a scoff. "Go on, list them if you want. Colleen and I could have easily been Ravenclaws if we weren't in Gryffindor. The two of us are incredibly kind, good looking and we can be smart. If we chose to study more we would be way smarter than you-"
"Hardly." Drew mutters, taking a piece of the buttered toast from Dawn's plate. His eyes were flicking between his book on the table and the two girls. "But other than Ravenclaw, weren't you almost put into Hufflepuff?"
"Oh yeah," Dawn noted with a pleasant grin at the thought. She remembered when she was being sorted into one of the houses, she had absolutely no idea which one she would end up in. Her mum always told her she was devious and rather scheming when she wanted to be like a Slytherin, she was clever in some ways (not many as Drew claimed), she was always told she was kind and honest growing up, and she had pretty much all of the qualities of a Gryffindor. When she was eleven, she and her mum were positive she would get into any of the houses. "Could have been over there sitting with that lot. Don't think I would fit in that much."
"It's your personality." Colleen teases, knowing how much Dawn hated when she said that. Last year a boy in their year claimed Dawn had too much an overwhelming, demanding personality. "Too demanding."
"Demanding?" Dawn repeated with a loud grunt. "Demanding? As if. How come when a man is outspoken and tells the world his thoughts, he is seen as being confident and alluring but when I'm outspoken I'm apparently 'demanding'--"
"Here she goes again, yacking." A new voice emerges.
Without turning around Dawn says, "Speaking of male arrogance."
The boy leans down and tells her, "I heard that."
"Good." Dawn did not move her eyes from her newspaper. "You were supposed to."
"I haven't met you yet." Drew commented and Dawn resisted the urge to make another comment about how the boy standing behind her was not of any importance. They started Hogwarts again a few days ago and in that time Fletcher Usaf was a pain in Dawn Kale's arse. He was quite possibly the most annoying boy ever. Drew extended his hand, "Drew Gellar."
When Fletcher did not take his hand, Dawn turned around only at this to look at him. He was standing far too close behind her and had been glancing between her and Drew. Dawn thought he looked older than his age, or maybe she just looked too young as everyone said. According to her mum, she barely passed at fourteen. Her aunt, Kathy, told her that one day she would be grateful for that. Fletcher, however, could pass as fifteen or sixteen. He had smooth black hair that rested upon his developed features. She quickly looked away and exchanged a look with Colleen.
"Drew, I would put your hand down if I was you," Dawn says, "Doesn't seem like it's going to be shaken anytime soon."
Not even this caused the rude boy to shake Drew's hand.
She was not surprised by this at all. First of all, when she first met him, he insulted her more times than she has ever been insulted in her entire life within a five minute conversation. He also called her name ugly which was the worst. Since then he threw his quill at her twice in Divination and even 'accidentally' spilled ink on her. The ink stain did not come out of her jacket and now she had permanent white leather stain on her favourite jacket. What Dawn found the most annoying was the fact that Fletcher was in Slytherin and he was in the Gryffindor common room because of "spacing" it made no sense whatsoever. Plus no one knew where exactly he came from, of course his accent told them all he was American but no one knew why exactly he was here.
He let out a scoff, and then jumped across the table, and slid into the seat beside her. She ignores him for a few moments before turning and looking at him. He grins directly at her.
"I have news for you."
"News?" She repeated. She hated that look he was giving her.
"Yacker, say hello to your new tutor."
Without processing what he says, she asked, "Tutor? Don't you mean grinds?"
Fletcher blinked, "Grinds?"
"Someone who gets "tutored" by someone. They're grinds, people who do the tutoring." Drew replied in explanation. "Same thing."
Dawn had stared at him then reached down taking a sip of Drew's pumpkin juice then spat it out.
"A Tutor?" She repeated in a sneer. "What are you talking about? I don't need a tutor. I don't need grinds from anyone."
"Did you really need to spit that juice out?" Fletcher questions, amused. "And oh but you do, according to Professor Snort anyways. Last year I missed out on some topics so you're going to help me with them, and I help you with the ones we're doing now.. We can start Fridays and please make sure and bring a mussel."
"Do you mean Professor Snape?" Drew corrected.
"Ah yes that's the one." Fletcher chuckles. A melodic melody emerging from his lips. It almost sounded like something from a musical. "Strange guy."
"Woah, woah." Dawn, this time, actually looks him. She raised an eyebrow. "Number one a mussel really? And secondly, I don't want you to tutor me. Why on earth would be suggest that you tutor me? I know other people in that class...Colleen can tutor me-"
"Actually I can't. I can barely do potions myself." Colleen adds sheepishly.
Dawn wants to kill her. "Colleen!"
"What? Oh!"
"I can help you if you want?" Drew offers to Colleen ignoring the gasp Dawn gave. "Since we've both got that free period after Herbology?"
"Oh. Really? That would be fantastic. Thanks Drew."
"We can start next week-"
"Er HELLO?" Dawn clicks her fingers, brown eyes darting back and fourth between the two. Did she somehow become invisible in a matter of a few seconds? "What about me!"
"See you soon." Fletcher stands up and winks at Dawn then goes back to the Slytherin table.
Drew snickered which resulted in an apple being thrown at his chest. "Oh Dawn. I'm sorry but that was hilarious. Can I get you anything?"
A few people turn as her head bangs against the table. "A gun."
"He's really cute Dawn." Colleen says timidly. "And fit. I think he might have a bit of a thing for you."
This was maybe the one time in her life, Dawn had no response. Her nose scrunched up in discomfort because that idea, in any form, had never even crossed her mind. Maybe because she always found a way to occupy herself, she never even thought of having a boyfriend. Also she knew for a fact that was definitely not true. Instead of replying, she banged her head against the table again.
Drew patted Colleen's back. "Personality, Colleen."
"I'm sure he's got a great personality once you get to know him." Colleen always saw the good in people.
Dawn's face remained emotionless. "Incorrect, again. Also, Snape is an arrogant twat. I hope he's the next professor who randomly leaves at the end of the school year like Lupin."
"Miss Kale, how many time have I asked you to not use language like that against Professor Snape?"
McGonagall's strict voice bounced in her ear drum. Dawn didn't turn around because she didn't want to see the look the woman was going to give her.
"Unfortunately for us both I'm not a calculator and numbers confuse me." Dawn bluntly replies with a sigh. She kept her eyes ahead and did not turn around. "Are Quidditch tryouts still on tonight, Professor or are you two still hiding secrets-"
"Paranoia." Colleen interrupted, "Isn't good for the mind."
"Neither is not playing Quidditch in an actual pitch." Dawn stated.
I don't believe they are. Professor Dumbledore will be explaining the Quidditch plan for this year later. Although, if I were you I'd make my way to Professor Snape's office to discuss any issues you have." The woman replied.
Dawn noticed her tone was different. "What's happening with Quidditch?"
"As I said, Dumbledore will be explaining soon."
"You can be mean."
"Miss Kale-"
"I'm going now." A large groan suppressed her lips as she shakes her head. She lifted herself up from the table. She gave Professor McGonagall a sarcastic smile before she walked away.
When she reached the Potion classroom she had not been shocked to see Harry Potter in the room. He was sitting in one of the chairs almost sleeping. His glasses were sticking down the bridge of his nose and you could not see his eyes open through his glasses.
"Hi Harry." Dawn acknowledges loudly, deciding they were on a friendly basis at this stage. She told herself she should be nice to him for many reasons. Most importantly because they were sitting together in potions and he was granted as very important. "Tired again?"
Harry turns and sent her a small smile. "Hey Dawn, very. Been in detention for almost an hour and a half now. What are you doing here?"
"Came to have a cuppa with my favourite professor."
Snape leaves the backroom and narrows his eyes once he sees her. Dawn was quick to throw her arms up.
"Professor Snape," She started calmly, making her way over. "I don't believe I asked for help with potions and I don't have any desire for someone to help me. It's still the start of the year and I have time to-- okay what's the problem, hm?"
Snape's lips were in a permit scowl since she started and she decided enough was enough.
"You are incredibly entitled for someone of your Potions abilities. You lack basic knowledge of resourceful potions and you do not pay attention in my classes." He sneered back in response. "You need a potion tutor and I certainly won't be the one to help with the extra work."
"Well you know, that's just me." She mumbled after he said the part about her abilities.
"Mr Usaf was generous enough to help you in the subject. You should be grateful for the extra help. Because you certainly won't be getting any more from me. I've had you for four years now and your results are nowhere near high enough for a fourth year student."
Her arms fold. How come it was always the students fault and never the Professor?
She clenched her jaw. Here comes her almost outburst. "No."
"Excuse me?"
Her nostrils flared in anger. "He isn't tutoring me, I get you don't like me but I don't like him. Ill do the stupid tutor thing with someone but not him. I'll take anyone else tutoring me, except him. I don't technically have to even show up if you say no-"
She heard Harry snort from behind her.
Snape angrily drops his books. " You are so incredibly arrogant just like your father."
What did he just say? For a moment she didn't comprehend his words. She could tell he had made a mistake himself, because his eyes widened momentarily, but was covered by a glare. Dawn wouldn't necessarily say her parental upbringing was a touchy issue but still, she hated being told anything about it - such as when professors wanted to do a family tree of the waiter would ask to her and her mum "oh just you two?" .
However hearing Snape say those last five words made her blood boil in a way she didn't know was possible.
Dawn, remained completely emotionless, and kept her arms crossed. "I'm sorry. What did you just say?"
How on earth did he know who her father was?
Her mum said no one except her knew.
Snape didn't reply. "You can leave my classroom now, Kale. Mr Usaf will be tutorial you."
"No-"
"Now!" he shouts causing her to flinch. She glares at him.
Dawn reached across the table as shoved one of the Potions bottle to the ground. Harry who was at the back even jumped up from his spot in a fright. Without a second word, she turns on her heel and left the Dungeon. At this point, the only thing on her mind was getting out of there. Once she had left the potions classroom she felt her breath hitch in her chest once she entered the bathroom.
Stupid Snape, stupid greasy haired idiot.
Her body shook with anger as she turned on the tap. She grabbed a cold handful of water and splashed herself with it. Although Dawn may have appeared not to care about her father, to hear Snape say something like annoyed her beyond words.
The question replayed in her mind though, how did he know? Her mum was in Slytherin house and the same year as Snape but she never mentioned him.
Did that mean her father was in Slytherin and Snape knew who he was?
No, she didn't care. She closed the thoughts away.
"Oh I'm sorry. I didn't know anyone was in here."
Dawn turns to see Hermione Granger.
"It's fine." Dawn waves her off as she reaches across and turns off the tap. "I was leaving."
Hermione was quick to add. "Are you alright? I couldn't help but notice-"
Dawn hadn't responded only partly nodded before leaving the bathroom. The last person she would talk about her feelings to was Hermione Granger.

Once Quidditch practice came around Dawn wanted to die.
Despite the fact McGonagall had said Dumbledore would discuss something relating to Quidditch with her later, Angelina Johnson and Dawn had decided to sneak in just past dinner time and host trials.
It made her wonder what was going on? The pitch was almost guarded off (Fred Weasley performed a spell to remove the ropes) and McGonagall had said no trials could take place today. Dawn made a face at this and went to speak but the woman claimed she could not deal with Dawn's "behavior today">
Maybe they were building a bigger stadium.
She had a lot of pressure on her to become Captain - mostly because she had told a few people. Plus since Oliver Wood left. It was only natural considering she was the best on the team. She loved Quidditch with her heart and soul. The game itself, the training and everything got to do with it, scoring, getting the quaffle, it was like fresh air to Dawn.
Dave had shown her almost everything she needed to know. He used to play Quidditch for his school back.
The Quidditch tryouts themselves went fine, she found she played well and scored the most. Everyone else played well too, especially one of the Weasley twins, and Katie Bell.
"Angie!" Dawn calls one they are over. She immediately runs over and wraps her arms around the girl. Angelina was like her older sister. She had been the one who suggested that she tried for Captain. "I feel like I haven't seen you this year."
Angelina hugs her tightly. "Perks of sixth year. It's a proper pain. All I hear about are the NEWTS."
"I've got O.W.L.S next year, mum actually wants me to study for them also. Can imagine yours are worse though."
"Oh they're fine, you'll do good in them. Don't worry. I managed to pass everything."
There was one question on her mind. "Why aren't we having tryouts for Captain?"
Angelina gives her a sympathetic look. "I'm not sure, Professor McGonagall said we can't hold tryouts this year until Dumbledore has his speech in October. I thought we should keep it short, considering so many people want to try out."
"Right, yeah, makes sense."
"So I just decided I'll decide who is captain based off those trials."
"So that was the.....trial?"
Angelina nods, her eyes cast over towards the Weasley twins. "Yep. Oh. Don't worry Dawn got played brilliantly."
Dawn pouts. "But...but-"
Angelina pats her head. "Don't worry I'm sure that it'll go back to normal soon. They're probably just redecorating the stands. Besides, aren't you lucky it was held today? It looks like you've got an admirer."
"A what?"
"Slytherin boy. Top stand."
Immediately her face fills with confusion when she looked up at the stands and realised Angelina was not lying. She spotted two Slytherins. One being Draco Malfoy, and the other being Fletcher. What were they doing here? Neither of them had Quidditch today as the Slytherin's did not have the pitch booked.
When he saw she had spotted him, he sent her a wave.
"He's not an admirer. He's gum at the end of my shoe that won't come off."
Angelina gave out a small laugh before blowing her whistle. "Gather around everyone."
She glances back up the stands, and towards Fletcher. She noticed he rarely wore his uniform and instead often had a black leather jacket on. He must have felt her eyes on him because he looks down at her.
Dawn tore her eyes away quickly. She hated him.
"You're all here to make the Gryffindor team. Since Wood is now gone, he's asked me since I'm the oldest, to hold new tryouts. The Gryffindors leading team, to represent Gryffindor as a team, to make Albus Dumbledore and Hogwarts proud-"
Harry and Dawn snickered lightly.
"Bit dramatic, isn't she?" Harry mumbled to which Dawn nodded.
"Extremely dramatic."
