III. PART THREE
They all filed into the packed cinema, Lucas and Max slipped into a pair of seats while Mike, Will and Rowan found a couple a row behind them and a few seats down. She took the farthest seat, letting Mike take the middle between her and her brother, and got comfortable.
Mike handed out all the candy that they snuck in, handing her a Coke and a bag of M&M's and she smiled in thanks. She cracked open the can and took a small sip, her mind wandering back to what happened earlier. She knew she was spending a lot of time with Hopper and Eleven, but she still felt like she made time to hang out with Mike just as much. Whether it was inviting him over to Eleven's with her, or inviting him over for dinner at her house - him and Nancy both - and stuff like this.
It was like he expected her to lock herself away with him at his house all the time, instead of at Eleven's.
Suddenly the lights cut out making Rowan jump in her seat as everyone started shouting at the screen. But, that's not was made her jump. Was startled her was the sudden feeling that came over her - one she hadn't felt in almost a year. It was like a sweep down her spine making her feel about twenty degrees colder from the inside out and made goosebumps rise up on her skin.
Flashes of millions of rats running across a cold floor danced before her eyes, the lights of what looked like a warehouse flashing in and out over head. Until there wasn't anymore rats - instead, a huge creature made out of gooey flesh was there and he roared loudly in her face, the sound echoing in her ears.
She gasped loudly when a hand grabbed hers and she jerked her head to the side to see Mike beside her. His eyes searched her fear stricken face, the tears gathering in the corner of her eyes. "Are you okay?"
She felt numb, her throat dry as her heart hammered against her chest violently. She couldn't say a word no matter how hard she tried. All she could do was swallow hard and nod as some kind of reassurance.
The lights flickered on before he could question and cheers filled the room. Rowan broke his gaze, starring down at her hands in deep thought.
What the Hell was that?
...
Its the summer of 1985 and it seemed like everything was finally getting back to normal. It had been a year since they defeated the Mind Flayer and locked up the Upside Down forever and Rowan is determined to have the best summer with her boyfriend and her best friends. From the mall to sitting poolside, it's the summer of a lifetime.
Until Russians invade Hawkins trying to open a portal to the Upside Down right underneath the Star Court. Her relationship problems with Mike Wheeler are the least of her problems.
