It made me really sad at points but I actually really liked it

Like yea vld doesn't have a good plot but it's my guilty pleasure?? Which is why I was so surprised to realize that hey yea this is the show with a giantass fandom how is it like this

Not that it sucks, but it's not perfect either

I mean, at least with LoK it was on TV?? And yet it still bugs me to this day that they just implied things, yet I get it! They have to keep their audience! I understand that they need the money, it's okay

And the same can be applied to vld, but I just,, oof

It kinda hurts since it's Netflix?? Where I hear this stuff is easier to do?? But whatever it's fine. I don't like that we needed outside confirmation, I don't like that they killed off Adam to get out of it, but in the end, I get it.

By the way, I won't be doing this episode by episode, since this is the first season I've been in the fandom for that's actually a long one [I started watching after season three had come out, a little over a year ago] So, let's start with the worst part of the fandom, show, and everything between,,, the goddamn shipping

First off, just to give you an idea of what I like best, my favorite ships are [in no particular order] Klance, Plance, Allura x fucking no one please, Hunk and Shay but also possibly Hunk and Romelle? and sometimes Punk or Heith. I'm really not fond of Sheith or any Shaladin ships really, or the sudden introduction of Axca x Keith, and I'm neutral on most others. Except Allurance. If you ship anything I don't like that is fine, I think you all know this by now but I'm not an anti and I hate that people are

By the way, I really don't want to talk about this, but yes, I have heard about the threats, and I'm just,, so angry. I can't believe people would act this way. This is why, with the exception of praising the chars and these rants, I try not to get involved with the fandom

One other thing::
"The emo kid is doing it!" That's it, that's the show

Anyway, on to ships!

I'll start positive! I like the little moments we got this season, even though they were few and far between. Those scenes with Keith and Lance acting as leader and right hand man were great. Also the feud episode,, I mean ofc I'm gonna mention it!! I loved that Lance picked Keith, and for a second I was legit surprised that Keith picked Lance but also pretty happy!! And him saying he didn't want to be stuck with Lance skdhjs

I feel like there was some Plance, although definitely not much, which again, I don't mind

Hunk and Romelle are suddenly being shipped which,, I'm loving? I'm glad our girl Romelle has gotten to have a bit more character, since she was so new last season and we didn't know anything about her. Since she's generally pretty cautious and freaked out by how dangerous missions are, yet remains pretty silly, she reminds me of,, a Hance fusion maybe?

I mean, Shay was back at the end, and I still love them together, so I guess we'll see what happens

Also I don't see many Heith shippers around anymore [I know s2's the reason it sparked] but damn we got some heartfelt moments and a hug, even platonically my crops have been watered

Ezor and Zethrid are suddenly acting like a couple instead of Ezor and Axca?? "That's my girl" yea y'know what I'm on board with this

Let's see, any other positives with shipping specifically? I think we've exhausted that category

Let's get to,, the not so great

Again, if you do that's perfectly fine!!

But I have a lot of problems with it,, and one of them is the onslaught of romantic plotlines with Allura. Since she's the pretty, more feminine gal of the main seven [think five man band heart/chick] she gets shipped with far too many guys, and I mean by the show, not the fandom. Lotura? I'm glad that when it ended she yeeted him out of her life! Kallura? Thankfully it hasn't resurfaced in a while

Allurance? Whyyyy,,

Look, I do have one thing I could possibly like about this, and that would be if it makes Lance and Allura happy. While he definitely doesn't have the development he deserves, Lance has grown, and he clearly appreciates Allura in a different way, but I just can't see the two of them being together as good for either of them. Even with Lotor gone, Lance would really feel like a rebound

I'm not saying Lance shouldn't find love, my ships obviously say otherwise, but I really don't see why Allura can't stay single! Not that strong female characters can't be in a relationship, but Allura's character was always about having emotions and still being strong, which I really love! Problem is, we no longer get to explore that when 90% of all her subplots are about the guys she's forced with

Now, I've heard it's been confirmed that Allura doesn't have an endgame, and I really hope that true. She's fine having friends – in fact, I love her and Lance as friends! They have fantastic platonic chemistry

Alright alright I'm done,, who else

Axca and Keith isn't a good idea

It's last minute and forced

I don't hate it! But I don't like it either

However,, I'm really hoping that headcanon about half siblings turns out to be true, nOT because incest, just because misunderstanding and I like it

But I've also heard it won't become endgame either, so I'm gonna pray that Axca, being the super cool character she is, doesn't end up with Keef because protagonist romance or whatever

IT TOOK UNTIL SEASON SIX AND SEVEN BUT HE FINALLY GOT DEVELOPMENT

And while it took way too long, I'm honestly so happy it happened at all! Because I love him! He deserves it! [he's actually my sister's favorite character]

He's so great as the emotional support of the group, and actually really good at leading in a pinch, or at least co-leading? I loved that conversation between him and Keith [not just because of the hug] and I'm so glad his bravery is appreciated, he clearly goes through a lot and it shouldn't be mocked

And the flashbacks?? My heart?? In fact let's discuss families

Me, the moment I saw Lance's family alive and well because of the resistance :: cRYING TEARS OF JOY BECAUSE I LOVE HIM AND HIS FAMILY AND THEY'RE GONNA BE TOGETHER AGAIN AND
Me, approximately two seconds later: wait, wait, wAIT WHAT ABOUT HUNK'S, OH NOOOOO

Lance and Pidge reuniting with their families made me so, so happy,, ["UNCLE LANCE" I'M GONNA DIE OF JOY ALSO THE DOG WHO ROVER WAS PROBABLY NAMED AFTER] but seeing Hunk just shoved the feels right back in again

I'm so glad they ended up okay

Alright on the topic of family, let's talk about,,

Kosmo reminds me of the other animals which reminds me of Coran, who I liked this season! He's always fun

Same goes for other side chars, like Krolia, the new Voltron force or whatever, Iverson acting nice? etc.

Those flashbacks were rough man

Also I was so convinced that Voltron 3 there at the end was gonna be Haggar's somehow but hi random Altean welcome to the show

That part where Red took all of too long to get to Lance?? I really, really hope that'll spur some actual Lance development

Speaking of Lance, I really did love his stuff this season!! Seeing him and his sister/family together warmed my heart, but the gameshow episode,, mostly funny and I loved the exfoliating joke or whatever but hearing him called the dumb one so many times just felt,, mean spirited?? I'm not trying to be overly sensitive here, but I feel it got a little over the top, especially since Lance just acted indignant despite clearly being very insecure

At least bibobi was back

And the feud episode was fine other than that, Lotor's an emo little bitch and Keith has a ponytail

This is a small thing but that one bit in ep1 when Pidge shook the water off her hair like a lil kitten was sO CUTE HDKSGDHD I LOVE HER

I LOVE HIM AND I LOVED HIM IN THIS SEASON

[unrelated to it as a whole but the fact that his hacking thing has a little symbol of his face just like Pidge,, my heart,,]

Every reunion, the way he helped on the Atlas, he just did so great, 10/10 would dad again

There's still so much stuff to be resolved and I hope s8 delivers

mATT'S BACK IT'S ABOUT FUCKING TIME!! I'm just glad he didn't die or something, I've missed my weaboo son so much. Also Slav and Shay, bringing back all my faves I see

It was pretty fun to see this take on "aliens are attacking defend the earth", also nice world war three thing you sneaked in there what a super subtle way of mentioning we're in the fUtUrE

What else,, Shiro!!

Shiro Shiro Shiro!! Okay, since the clone was there seasons three-six, I was always really sad we didn't get to see the Shiro I knew from one-two, and not just because he was so conflicted and yelled at our faves

See, clone Shiro just wasn't as good as the real thing

Because the real Shiro is a natural born leader! I loved the way they let him and Keith lead everyone together, it really worked well. Despite his partner getting the bury the gay treatment, he did manage to be a great hero, which is what he is and deserves to be

Okay, we've reached the end

Here's the thing

Like I mentioned first, people seem to HATE this season and I'm just,, agh. Clearly the majority of it is because of Shadam, but also just shipping as a whole. Like I said, shipping is the worst part of everything about vld, and I really wish people wouldn't make it the main thing! Cause you want a good thing for your main thing, right?

I've also seen arguing that the characters were badly written, and I can see that in certain ways. Lance didn't get that development we all wanted and Allura,, I dunno but people didn't like her this season? Yet they forget all the good character writing – Hunk was excellent, and so was Shiro! Keith, Sam, Pidge, Coran and quite a few others were as well

Let's beat that dead horse and say that Klance obsessors suck, as do all the other ship obsessors. [Klance is obviously the worst about this cause there's so many] I admit when I first watched vld I really fell in love with shipping it, despite having known prior that the Klance part of the fandom was absolutely awful. I just couldn't help liking it

I began to realize that I gave the shipping in the show equal value to the actual plot and characters, and I tried to stop. I also tried to force myself to get into multishipping, but that didn't really work

Recently, however, it happened naturally! And I've never been happier! I can smile at Keith and Lance getting a scene together and then gasp with joy as Pidge and Lance get a moment one episode later without prioritizing any of it over the actual story! I feel so free!

So yea, if you hated the season for plot, or maybe characters, I can't exactly blame you, I totally get it. But try not to let your favorite ship not getting attention cloud your judgement
