Nikolina Tedora was pacing the snowy grounds of Durmstrang when Viktor Krum found her.
"Are you vell my friend?" Viktor asked her as he fell in step with her. She noticed his English had improved greatly and assumed he wished to practice it.
"Yes, I am," she replied, "I vos just trying to get avay from the chaos."
Her pale skin was turning slightly red from the chilled air. Despite living in the area since she was almost old enough to attend school, she was not as accustomed to the frigid weather of her school grounds as her male friend was. She had however picked up on the accent.
"Vhat do you think of this Hogvarts trip?" He asked, trying to meet her eyes.
"Vell, I think it vill be very interesting," she said, "I just do not know if I vish to participate in the tournament."
He stopped her walking by turning towards her and setting his hands on her shoulders.
"If you vish to participate in the tournament, I vill support you all the vay. But I vont you to be careful. I vill be placing my name in the goblet."
"I vont you to be careful as vell," she replied, hugging him tightly. Her dark brown hair slipped from beneath the hood of her cloak. She tucked it back behind her ear as she thought about how long she had been friends with Viktor Krum.
He was a quiet, surly boy when she began to attend Durmstrang and it surprised her to find they were in the same year. For a while, they didn't speak because honestly, Nikolina was afraid of him.
She began to attend the quidditch practices to try to talk to him, but by their third year, everyone knew who Viktor was because he had become a really good seeker. One of the best.
And that just intimidated her more.
In their fourth year, she was in the library doing homework when he took a seat beside her. And that moment when he asked for help, was when their friendship started.
She was broken from her memories when Professor Karkaroff came and found them, but really he had only been looking for Viktor.
"Viktor!" The professor exclaimed, "Have you packed for Hogwarts?"
"Yes Professor," Viktor replied evenly, stepping away from Nikolina. He had begun to notice that his headmaster favored him ever since he had joined the Bulgarian quidditch team.
"Miss Tedora, you would do well to ensure you are ready on time. Any late students will be left here," Karkaroff stated, his demeanor changing entirely.
After the headmaster left the two of them alone, Nikolina turned to Viktor.
"I vos sure ve do not leave until after the Quidditch Vorld Cup?" She said questioningly.
"Ve don't. He does not vant me to be around you much. He vants to leave you."
"But vy?"
"He believes you are a..." He trailed off as he brushed a chocolate brown curl behind her ear and met her green eyes. "Distraction to my Quidditch skills."
"Am I?" She was concerned about causing complications for her friend.
"Of course not, if you vere I could tell you." He laughed. "Besides, I vont you at the Vorld Cup."
Nikolina accepted the embrace he offered quite willingly.
"Thank you Viktor," she told him.
"Vell even though we do not haff to vorry about Hogvarts yet, ve must be sure ve haff packed for the cup," he reminded her.
"Of course!"
