you had been excited about your husband, tommy, coming home for weeks. you hadn't seen him in months, as he'd been off fighting in the war at dunkirk. no one knew what kinds of horrors he had seen while there, and you could only hope that those things hadn't changed him. tommy had a good heart, and you couldn't imagine that he would change. his eyes would have been opened, but his heart had hopefully stayed the same. you also had some huge news to tell tommy. after he had left, you started feeling nauseous. when you went to the doctor, you were confirmed pregnant. this news both excited and scared you, because you would be going through the first months of your pregnancy without yout husband, who had no way of even knowing that you were pregnant.

but today was the day, and you were thrilled. your stomach had started to grow in size, making it obvious that you were sharing your body with a child. when you saw tommy, you were immediately overjoyed. he looked the same; perhaps his hair had grown out or he had gotten taller. but he was still your tommy.

you practically flung yourself into his arms, smiling and giggling as he spun you around in the air. tommy wasn't the kind to say anything about the extra weight you'd gained, but he set you down, looking at you as if to ask what you were hiding.

"tommy." you spoke softly, wrapping one of the curls from the nape of his neck around your finger. tommy gave a soft hum in response, looking into your eyes. "we're pregnant." tommy's whole mood changed and he wrapped his arms around you, smiling brightly. he got down on one knee and pressed his hand on your stomach, looking up at you with adoration in his eyes.

"i can't wait to start our little family." he smiled, pressing a gentle kiss to your forehead.

tommy was sitting by the christmas tree, holding his daughter in his hands. they were both smiling, and tommy couldn't stop handing her random gifts and goodies. tommy spoiled the little girl, but it was too adorable to watch them play for you to say anything about it.

you sat next to tommy on the ground, watching how your daughter wrapped her hand around his finger, smiling her toothless smile. tommy's whole face was bright with happiness, his messy locks dangling down. tommy used his free hand to stroke her growing in hair, making her giggle in response.

you couldn't help but sigh in happiness and content, nuzzling your head into tommy's shoulder. he wrapped his arm around you, resting his chin on your head. the fire was softly ablaze in the background, and it was calming. tommy pressed a kiss to your forehead. "i love our little family."
