CHAPTER 24 - FAST AND FURIOUS

Bryan stood up, half expecting to see them escorted to another room filled with private cars, but Juan kept sanitizing his hands, coating his hands with it rather than applying it all over. "I thought we were about to set forth for Teruel."

Ethan raised an eyebrow and gave out an incredulous look. He whispered into Bryan's ear, his eyes not taking their gaze away from Juan's hands. "Looks like he's got a lot of germs."

Ramírez stood up and motioned something to Juan. He turned towards Bryan and gave out a warm smile, straightening his blazer. "You'll be in Teruel in approximately twenty minutes. Juan will show you around to your transportation. Meanwhile, I'll have to bid farewell. Got a press meet to attend to."

With a wink, Ramírez strode out of the room, leaving the trio alone in the room. Bryan felt like he was about to choke on his own spit. "Teruel's at least four hours from here! There's no way we are reaching there in like twenty minutes!"

Juan smirked and folded his hands as if he were wearing something invisible. "We are about to enter the quantum sanctum. You'll understand everything once you step inside."

Ethan scoffed, clearly admonishing the whole idea. "And how are we supposed to enter this sanctum or whatever it is without you moving your butt from this place? Looks like you're busy killing germs on your lousy hands."

Juan bit his own tongue, restraining himself from acting up. He turned around to face the wall of the president's office and started waving his hand in a wiping motion. The wall around him started pixelating to life to reveal a hidden chamber within it. Bryan couldn't help but gape in wonder. "A wall behind a wall?"

Juan turned toward Bryan and raised his hand. "The entire Moncloa Palace is surrounded by pixelated visual illusions. What you see is not what it contains." His gaze shifted towards Ethan, his look as cold as the icy mountains. "And this is not a hand sanitizer. It's a pixel grip glove gel. The gel forms an invisible glove on your hand, triggering the pixel sensors surrounding the area."

Ethan, however, looked unfazed. "So anyone who manages to sneak into the palace can just lather this gel or whatever it is and unlock everything. More like stupidity."

Juan rolled his eyes and began typing in a passcode at the now-visible steel door. "The glove is computerized with only selected handprints. If an intruder happens to get the gel, highly unlikely, but let's just say he does, then he won't last long. The gel, being highly lucid, would travel all through his renal artery, which is responsible for supplying blood to the wrist and hand, and melts it." He let out a dramatic sigh, his eyes clearly enjoying the fear in Ethan's eyes. "A normal wrist injury can be fatal for about five minutes if left unattended; pixel grip gel doesn't even need twenty seconds."

The large steel door opened to reveal a dimly lit, long corridor filled with neon purple lights. Bryan stepped into the corridor after Juan, followed by a fearful Ethan, who now looked skeptical about his fate. It's best for me to leave Spain as soon as possible!

Cutting across his thoughts, a loud, static voice echoed throughout the corridor, which sent shivers running down Bryan's body. "Welcome to the Quantum Sanctum, where innovation meets elegance and the future of air travel awaits. In this chamber of marvels, you'll find yourself in the presence of the Quantum Falcon X, a masterpiece of aeronautical engineering. With its sleek lines and gleaming metallic exterior, the Quantum Falcon X stands ready to defy the boundaries of time and space."

Defy the boundaries of time and space? Before Bryan could resonate his thoughts aloud, Ethan's shriek cut across. He turned back to find Ethan fearfully pointing at what appeared to be a silhouette now approaching them. Before his mind could figure out what to do, Juan stepped forward and shook hands with a man, who was now visible under the neon purple light.

The man was plump and wore a suit in a red and yellow combination. He shook hands with Juan, his chubby face breaking into a wide grin. "Long time no see chico." His eyes averted to Bryan and the horror-stricken Ethan, and he broke into an even wider grin. "And these must be our two musketeers."

Ethan, who now felt a bit relaxed, felt his nerves throbbing within him. "And you might be Ronald McDonald. You are just missing that clown makeup and that grizzly hair, you know?"

Bryan put a hand across Ethan's mouth and pushed him aside. "Uhm, sorry about that." He was expecting to see the man before him annoyed, but to his amazement, the man broke out into a fit of laughter. "It's been a long time since someone has joked that hard. By the way, I'm Tomás Miguel, captain of Quantum Falcon X."

Bryan's nerves seemed to have lost connection with the present as his mind wandered to figure the deal out. "What's Quantum Falcon X?"

Juan grinned and winked at Tomás. "There's no better person than Tomás to explain to you about Quantum Falcon X. Meanwhile, I'll have to bid farewell as my duty ends here." He stretched out his hand towards Bryan, his face resonating with a mixture of friendship and loyalty. "It was a nice time meeting you. Let me know if you need any help throughout Spain. Hasta la proxima vez."

He turned towards Ethan, his expression switching to the standard steel-cold look. Bryan couldn't believe his eyes at what he was witnessing as the two hugged each other. They made up already?

Juan whispered to Ethan's ears, his eyes keeping a steady gaze at his neck. "It's best for you to leave Spain as soon as the issue is solved. I see you again, and you're dead." Ethan smirked and whispered back, mockery lacing his accent. "Sure, horse face! Next time, get a better hairdresser."

They pulled back at what seemed to Bryan as a never-ending hug. Juan gave a low bow, and with one last death stare towards Ethan, he moved outside the door, making it vanish after him. Tomás clapped his hands together, excitement gushing through his body. He always loved to see the reactions of newcomers when they first came upon the Quantum Falcon X. "So folks, why don't we move ahead?"

Bryan and Ethan followed behind Tomás, trailing their way through the long corridor. At the far end of the corridor stood a giant jet. Bryan's mouth gaped in wonder as the structure of the jet blew his mind. The aerodynamic frame of the jet resembled a metallic, streamlined falcon with a chrome-plated exterior that shimmered with a hint of otherworldly luminescence. Its slender wings, reminiscent of a soaring bird of prey, are adorned with adaptive micro-winglets, designed to optimize airflow and reduce drag.

Tomás beamed with pride, his eyes gleaming like a shining star. "Now how this sets itself apart from other jets is due to a propulsion system." He gave a curious look towards the wonder-struck duo and raised an eyebrow. "Know what a propulsion system is?"

Ethan nodded, his hands feeling the glossy exterior of the jet. "It's responsible for maintaining the speed of the jet as a whole."

Tomás chuckled, nodding in agreement. "The propulsion system used here is the Quantum Impulse Drive, or QID. It harnesses the power of quantum entanglement, enabling the jet to bypass traditional propulsion constraints. The QID generates a quantum field around the aircraft, manipulating the fabric of space-time to create localized wormholes."

He turned around to see the confused look in Bryan's face and shook his head. "In simpler words, if a standard jet takes four hours to reach Teruel, the Quantum Falcon X just needs a mere twenty minutes."

Bryan and Ethan's voices echoed in unison, their eyes not averting their gaze from the jet. "No way!"

Tomás chuckled and took a box of accessories from a nearby table. "Safety comes first, folks. Since we will be traveling at an intense speed, the normal human body wouldn't be able to adapt to it." He threw a black helmet each at the duo and continued. "These are quantum neural relaxation helmets. These helmets utilize advanced neurostimulation to induce a deep sense of relaxation and calmness. These helmets emit carefully calibrated neural pulses, promoting a meditative state that helps passengers adapt to the unique experience of trans-dimensional travel."

Tomás opened the passenger door and motioned for them to hop on. Bryan and Ethan eagerly hopped into the passenger pod. The leather seat seemed to calm their aching bodies. Bryan felt his helmet connect with the seat, which now sent purple lights emitting throughout the helmet. Tomás motioned to a switch beside their seats. Ethan pressed the switch, but nothing seemed to happen.

Suddenly, heavy fabric surrounded their bodies, which formed the figure of a suit similar to the one Tomás wore. Tomás chuckled and shot a mocking look towards Ethan. "Now we have another Ronald McDonald on board."

Ethan gave a low grunt and rolled his eyes. Tomás motioned to the pod and then to the suit. "The pod in which you guys are now sitting is the Quantum Immersion pod. These pods create a tranquil, immersive environment using advanced virtual reality and neurosensory technology, which helps distract passengers on board from the intense speeds and ensures a comfortable journey."

Bryan felt the suit around his body. "Wonder how everything looks when we travel at triple the speed of a normal aircraft."

Tomás shook his head and gave a wink. "Oh, don't worry. You won't be able to see a single thing." Before Bryan could ask why, Tomás took out a box of pills and handed one each to the duo. "As mentioned before, it's difficult for the human body to cope with the speed, especially if you aren't used to it. These pills will make sure you are drowsy throughout your entire journey."

Ethan gobbled the pill while Bryan looked skeptical. Tomás gave an incredulous look and broke out into a fit of laughter. "It isn't poison, you know?"

Bryan shook his head and hung his head low. "It's not that. It's because of dreams."

"Well, dreams are great, aren't they?"

"Not for me."

Tomás could feel a sense of panging in Bryan's heart, emotions hidden deep within him. He took a huge breath and gave an assuring smile. "When I was young, my mom used to say that dreams unlock portals to answers we search for. It's true; it might be bad, some horrendous, but it all contains a meaning."

Bryan gulped back his own saliva, Tomás's words resonating throughout his mind. He took a deep breath and was about to swallow the pill, but stopped short. "Then how are you going to travel without eating the pill?"

Tomás gave a wink and put on a red helmet. "Country secrets are not to be revealed, my boy."

Bryan gave a low laugh and looked at Ethan, whose snores now filled the pod. He rolled his eyes and swallowed the pill, letting his mind wander through the unknown territories inside his memories.

Tomás hopped onto the cockpit and flicked on the screen. An automated voice filled the pod, engines revving up to prepare for the flight. "Our estimated time of arrival in Teruel is approximately twenty minutes. Please be advised that the current temperature in Teruel is ten degrees Celsius. We kindly remind all passengers to ensure they are prepared for the weather conditions upon arrival. Thank you for choosing Quantum Falcon X for your travel needs. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the rest of your flight."
