Chapter 3: Shaded Inkantation
Matt ran down to the inside of the base after returning. He found a group of people inside their intel room, the base's former barracks. When Matt arrived, they were discussing about something they had been working on. "Did you guys find anything we can use?" Matt asked them. "Yeah, we found something that looks like it shows their whereabouts. The Sisters, Off the Bass, or, well, Marina, and the Agents. Here." One of them told Matt, and he handed him what looked like a map. He looked over it, and it had several markers. One for the Sisters, one for Marina, and one for the Agents. He decided to go for the Sisters first, as they were his favorites back in Inkopolis. He determined their location was Beatopolis Square, a place marked on the map. He had heard about it, but never actually went there. He went to his quarters, picked up his guns, and left for the Square. He told the Synthists there to keep the fort locked down until he had arrived, or more of the people he freed had arrived.
As he ran to the Square, he met more Beatists who he set free by looking them in the eyes. Whenever he freed someone, their shades fell off and they were given directions in the form of blue neon appearing in their eyes to lead them to the fort, saving Matt time by letting him run without needing to stop. When he arrived at the Square, there was a stage, more Beatists present, and other things, but the Shaded Sisters were nowhere to be seen. He tried to convert the Beatists, but they didn't budge. When he approached the stage however, all the lights dimmed, the floor below him began to rise, and the Beatists formed a circle around him. In front of him were the Shaded Sisters, doing the Stay Fresh pose Matt knew. "Hello Beatopolis!" The crowd around them cheered, and when Matt looked, their number had doubled, as there were now a lot more of them in the area. "And hello there, Synthwalker! You're trying to dethrone Lux again, aren't you?" The shaded version of Callie said to him. Matt didn't answer, he simply just squinted his eyes. "Hmph. Well, you're gonna have to go through us! DJ! DROP THAT SPICY WASABI BEAT!" Suddenly, the stage shook before the platform under the Sisters rose. From under it was... A Beatist version of DJ Octavio. It fully rose into the air, revealing a giant mech.
The Shaded Sisters feat. DJ Beatavio
Octobeat King
"BEATAVIO IN DA HOOOOOUSE!" Talk about extra ham. Matt didn't want to call him that, so for simplicity he just called him Octavio. "Not this guy again..." He mumbled to himself. He looked up and pulled out his guns, preparing himself for battle. "Get him!" Marie yelled out, and the music began. It sounded like a Beatist version of Bomb Rush Blush. The arena was similar to the one back in Inkopolis, so he was playing in familiar territory. He ran around the arena, waiting for any attacks, deflectable or not. Octavio launched a set of Suction Bombs that looked particularly synthed. It didn't matter, as Matt dodged them anyway. He launched a set of what looked like miniature, sphere-shaped speakers that landed embedded in the ground. He stared at them for a moment before they exploded into pillars of purple ink. Matt ran to the opposite end of the arena before the next attack. Octavio threw a punch that Matt deflected. He threw a few more mixed in with some spinning punched mixed in that Matt had to dodge. After another deflect, Octavio fell out of the machine, letting Matt go ham on him and sending him slamming into his mech.
The music cut before all three of them recovered. "Grrrh... TURN UP THE VOLUME!" Callie yelled out before Octavio got his wits about him and played a different song, this time a Beatist version of Tide Goes Out instead. However, Matt had a trick up his sleeve. He combined his two Desert Eagles into a double-barrel shotgun. Octavio sent out another set of speaker bombs, but Matt was able to clear them out with the shotgun. Octavio followed up with another punch rush, but Matt deflected them all, even the spinning ones. He fell out of his mech again, and Matt shot him once to send him flying back. He slammed into it again, but before he could recover, Matt jumped onto the mech and started smashing the equipment with his fists, causing it to be disabled. He jumped off and landed below it, while the machine slowly crashed downwards, breaking it and sending the Sisters flying forward and at Matt's feet.
They groaned as they got up, but when they did, they met Matt's eyes. The blue lights went through their eyes as the Beatist thoughts implanted into them were eradicated, instead replaced with the good intentions of Synthism. They also heard a different version of the Calamari Inkantation, sealing their conversion. Their shades fell off, and a bright pillar rose into the sky. The Beatists in the surrounding area were converted, having been freed from Lux's grasp. "What... what happened? The last thing I remember was a girl pulling me into an alley..." Callie said, struggling to stand up. Marie shook her head before looking around. "Am... am I finally free?" She whispered to herself. They looked back at Matt, who was just smiling. "You're welcome, you two." He smirked after he said that, having cleared out this neck of the woods. A good chunk of the Beatists were converted after the Shaded Sisters were freed. They hugged Matt suddenly, deeply thankful for their freedom. "Thank you..." They both said, still weak. Matt had defeated and freed the Sisters, but his work was far from done...
