Chapter 2: Memories

As Matt stood upon the roof of the base, he contemplated what to do. Many thoughts ran through his mind, as plans on who to go for first were rushing through him. Go for the Sisters, for Off the Bass, for Kinzie and Lux... He just couldn't decide who to go for first. He wishes he could just go back to before this whole situation happened, but he can't do that. All he can do is fix the present. Although, there was one thing he wanted to know... What happened before he or Lux ever got here? How did they all get shaded in the first place? His question would soon be answered as he heard a voice call from above. "Matt! Matt!" He looked upwards confusedly. Suddenly, he was hit by a beam of light that covered him entirely. He felt like he was floating, scarily similar to when he first got the Deck. He began to rise up into the clouds, and before long went straight past them. He arrived in space, and landed on a blue platform in the middle of nowhere. He didn't need oxygen for some reason, and around him the stars were shining. The Earth was in the distance, visible from all the way up there. It was mostly water now, but there were various remains of the islands that used to be the continents. By the looks of it, the water was receding and more land was being returned.

Matt turned and saw a brief explosion, and blue smoke. From the smoke emerged a figure as tall as him. He looked like Matt, except he was wearing a red tattered scarf, and the rest of his clothes were tattered as well. His shades were replaced by an eyepatch with a thundercloud on it. He walked up to Matt confidently. "Hello, Matt. What's up?" The mysterious person asked him. "Uh... who are you? And why am I here?" Matt asked him. He simply chuckled and smiled at him. "I'm your creator. Not a religious thing, your actual creator. Name's 570RMP1R473. And you're here for me to answer your questions." He explained. Matt was still confused from everything that was going on. "How the hell are you my creator?" He asked him. "I made you a long time ago, Matt. Ideas came together to make you, and your entire world." He told him. "Now, I can't go too deep into that, so you'll have to ask me another question." Matt thought for a few moments before finding a good question. "How did the Realm come under Lux's control?" He asked his creator. "Well, how about you see for yourself?" He stepped aside, and a door appeared in front of Matt.

He walked through and was met with a flash of light. In front of him was the Shaded Realm, except the landscape was... normal looking. There weren't any Hypnoshades in sight, the colors were natural, and the Inklings and Octolings didn't have oddly colored skin. Matt looked around before noticing a purple portal appear above the Citadel. Out came a vehicle of sorts that arrived at the Citadel's roof. He saw a familiar figure step out. It was Lux, but she wasn't as aggressive as the one Matt knew. From near the area a figure that looked like Marie came to her. She looked like the same Marie from the realm nowadays. She led them to inside the Citadel. Shortly after, Matt felt a shockwave ravage the land and turn it to the Beatist-infested city that he knew now. So her beats really ARE that strong... But Matt's stronger. He's determined to defeat them all, and eradicate Beatism permanently.

Suddenly, he was pulled back through the door by a chain whip. It brought him back into the creator's view and on the ground. "Well, you saw what happened to the realm. What do you wanna see next?" He asked Matt. "How... how did I get here anyway?" He replied. The Creator just shrugged and pulled Matt up. "Looks like I've gotta jog your memory. Here..." He touched his temples, and with his thumbs, he pressed Matt's forehead. Matt's eyes went fully white before turning back to normal. "That helped you out, Matt?" He asked him. "I... I remember..." He could barely speak after his memory came back to him. His memory of almost two years ago, to when he first accepted that mission...

"I'm off, Kinzie. There's food in the fridge and other stuff. I also left you some money if you need to buy anything. I'll be back!" Matt said as he walked out the door. "Enjoy your day!" He heard Kinzie's voice as he closed it. He descended the elevator to the garage in the first floor of Moray Towers. Without skipping a beat, he entered his car and drove to the Agency. He walked in calmly, and greeted Nate, his friend who gives him the contracts and targets. "Oh, good, you're here! There's a high-profile contract that sounds like it's just up your alley. Something about a hypnotic DJ taking control of some Inklings and Octolings with her beats. Think you can take care of that?" He asked Matt, who had an evil-looking grin on his face. "Of course I can. Give me the file." Nate handed him the mission report that had the details they currently got ahold of. Name: Unknown. Species: Octoling. Description: Mysterious DJ who can hijack minds with her beats. Currently laid claim to multiple Inklings from Inkopolis, along with some of the Octolings who fled Octo Valley to live here. Location: Nightclub in the abandoned section of Inkopolis. Those were the only details Matt needed. He took his car and drove there. The rest was history...

"B-but... How... I couldn't remember..." He was at a loss for words. He never remembered how he got to that damned nightclub in the first place, nor how he didn't think this would happen back then. 570RM just laughed and patted him on the back. "Don't worry, pal. We all forget stuff from time to time. But it looks like your time is up here. Just remember, you're strong enough to defeat Lux. Do it for Kinzie. Do it for the entire cod-fucking-damn realm." He pumped his fist and gave a stern look to Matt. He simply nodded back. He was hit by another beam of light like earlier, except this time it was coming from under him. He heard 570RM's voice one more time. "Good luck, Synthwalker. I'm proud I made you." With that, Matt was returned to the roof of the base. He had his memory of the past back. And now, he was ready to kick some ass. It's time for Beatism to end...
