Chapter one- the acceptance duel!
A young duelist sat in the audience, watching the crowd before him with excitement clear in his eyes, an odd-looking contraption on his arm. "Wow! Look at them go! I can't wait for my turn!" the teen said, throwing his arms up in the air in his excitement.
*SMACK!*
A small cry of pain sounded behind the teen, making him whirl around in his seat, a startled look on his face. He saw a woman on the ground, holding her cheek as she glared at him, clearly peeved that he just hit him. "Watch where you fling those arms idiot!" she told him, scowling as she got up, dusting herself off with a 'hhmph!'. "Sorry, there miss! I didn't know you were there!" the teen said, defending himself with an apologetic look in his visible eye as he looked away from her. The girl looked at him before asking if he had dueled yet, albeit at a distance. "Nah; just waiting for them to call my name," the teen said, smiling at her.
*ALEX PYRUS TO DUEL FIELD THREE. ALEX PYRUS TO DUEL FIELD THREE PLEASE*
"Speaking of which, that would be me! Wish me luck!" the teen, Alex, said as he stood up, stretching a little. "Oh, before I forget, may I ask you name?" Alex asked as he stopped walking down the stairs for a moment, looking back to the dirty blood. "My name is Brittney. Good luck, Alex Pyrus," Brittney replied, smiling a little as the teen continued to walk without a further goodbye. 'If he gets in, why do I think this year is going to be interesting?' Brittney thought to herself as she took a seat.
Alex walked onto his duel field, feeling like the center of attention as he took out his deck, shuffling as he looked over at his opponent, a dueling proctor. "Welcome applicant. You may choose to go first or second," the dueling proctor said as he inserted his deck into his duel disc, Alex doing the same. "I will go first then," Alex said as their life points rolled up to 8000; Alex was amazed when they made that huge of a change, doubling the starting life points. 'It also makes for a much longer duel,' Alex thought as he drew his starting hand, smiling at what he saw.
Alex: 8000 LP, 5 cards
Duel Proctor: 8000 LP, 5 cards
Alex viewed his hand with a practiced eye, picking one card in particular. "I summon Great Angus in attack mode! (1800 ATK/800 DEF/ 4 */ Beast/ Fire)!" Alex yelled, throwing down the monster. With a roar, a rapid pig-humanoid appeared on his field, snorting and glaring at his opponent. "Next, I set two cards face down; your move!" Alex said with a confident smile, two face downs appearing behind his monster, a mystery to all except for him.
"Very good. My move!" Alex's opponent said as he drew a card, an emotionless look on his face. "I set one monster face down as well as a set in my Spell and Trap zones," the proctor stated, one card horizontal appearing in his field as well as one vertical. "I end my turn," he said, sounding bored; Alex frowned at that.
Alex: 8000 LP, 2 cards
Duel Proctor: 8000 LP, 3 cards
"My move!" Alex said as he drew a card, it making him smile. "I play the continuous spell card known as Heart of the Underdog!" Alex said as he placed the green card into his spell/trap slots, making a hologram of it appear on his field. "Due to this card's effect, every time I draw a normal monster during my Draw Phase, I get to draw again if I choose to reveal it!" Alex explained, hearing a faint murmur from the crowd. "Next, I reveal one of my face down cards! Trap reveal, Solemn wishes! Every time I draw a card or cards, I gain 500 life points!" Alex continued, making it sound like no big deal. "Now, I summon Little Chimera in attack mode (600 ATK/400 DEF/ 2*/Effect/ Beast/ Fire)!" Alex called, summoning the third monster of the game and taking the advantage of the monster count. A small animal appeared on his field, growling as it stood on all fours, its horse-like tail swishing behind it threateningly.
"Now, you must be wondering why I would summon such a weak monster, right? Well, he isn't so weak when his ability activates! As long as Little Chimera is face-up on the field, all my FIRE monsters gain 500 attack points!" Alex said with a smirk.
Great Angus (1800- 2300) Little Chimera (600-1100)
"Battle phase! Great Angus! Smash my opponents face down monster!" Alex commanded, thrusting his arm with the duel disk forward. With a roar, the monster raced forward before belly flopping on the monster. A brief cry of pain from a Fire Princess (1800 ATK/1500 DEF/ 4*/ Spellcaster/Effect) and it was destroyed when the hologram broke apart. "Nice attack," the duel proctor said as he sent his monster to the graveyard. "Little Chimera! Attack with Fire Fang!" Alex yelled. With a howl, the Chimera rushed forward and bit the duel proctor on the arm, making him wince with pain.
Duel Proctor: 7000 LP
"With that, I end my turn!" Alex called, now in the lead with his life and monsters.
"My go!" the Duel Proctor said as he drew, looking at the chimera with a vengeance in his eyes. "I reveal my set monster! Flip summon! Hane- Hane!" the proctor called. When the monster flipped face up, Alex knew what was going to happen. "Due to Hane-Hane's flip effect, I can return one monster you control and send it back to your hand! I choose Little Chimera! Returning Gust!" the Proctor called, making the chimera whine before it vanished in a gust of wind, Alex having returned it to his hand after it was targeted. "And since Little Chimera isn't on the field, your monsters attack points go back to normal!" he said, making Alex scowl as a result.
Great Angus (2300-1800)
"Now I sacrifice Hane- Hane in order to summon High-tech Aligator in attack mode (2500 ATK/ 1300 DEF/6*/REPTILE/WIND)!" the duel proctor said, making Alex look worried, despite him laughing on the inside. A mechanical, bi-pedal alligator appeared on his opponent's field, one of its arms what looked like a canon. "Sorry, but you just killed your monster! Reveal, face down card! Trap Hole!" Alex said, pressing a button and making his last face-down card flip face up. "Due to the fact you just normal summoned a monster with more than 1000 attack points, it is instantly destroyed!" Alex explained as, with an almost cartoonish roar, the monster fell into the hole as the proctor sent his monster to the graveyard, Alex doing the same with his trap card. "I end my turn!" the proctor said with a mutual tone.
Alex: 8000 LP, 1 card
Proctor: 6900 LP, 3 cards
"Then allow me to take the field! I draw!" Alex said as he drew a card swiftly, not even bothering to look at it; he already knew what it was from the heat of the monster. "I reveal the monster I just drew, namely the normal monster Twin headed fire dragon! I also gain 500 LP thanks to Solemn Wishes!" Alex said.
Alex: 8500 LP, 2 cards.
"Now I draw again," Alex said, a not-so-surprised look on his face. "I reveal Dark fire soldier #1," Alex said, showing the monster before drawing again.
Alex: 9000 LP, 3 cards.
Seeing the card, Alex saw it was a spell card, an Equip spell to be more specific. "I re-summon Little Chimera!" Alex said, placing the monster on his duel disc platform, not bothering to explain its effects.
Great Angus (1800-2300) Little Chimera (600-1100).
"Now! Great Angus and Little Chimera! Take a chunk of my opponent and attack him directly! Burn 'em down!" Alex called. With a combined roar/ hiss, Alex's monster struck there mark, the duel proctor crying out in pain.
Duel Proctor: 7000-3600 LP
"I end my turn with that!" Alex said, watching as his opponent got back up, looking at Alex with a little more care in his eyes. "My move!" the proctor said as he drew a card, a grit on his face. "I summon Spear Dragon in attack mode (1900 ATK/0 DEF/4*/Dragon/ Effect/Wind)!" Alex's opponent said, making Alex raise his eyebrow with surprise. Spear Dragon! Destroy the Chimera! Spear Assult!" his opponent commanded, the long-nosed dragon flying forward and impaling the poor chimera on the spot, making Alex grunt in pain.
Alex: 9000 LP- 8200 LP.
"Spear Dragons effect activates! It switches to defense mode at the end of the battle phase!" the Duel Procter said, the dragon whimpering as it huddled behind its wings. "I end my turn with that!" Alex's opponent said, making the applicant chuckle.
Duel Proctor: 3600 LP, 3 cards
Alex: 8200 LP, 2 cards
"With this draw, I declare end of the game!" Alex said, drawing his card. "I summon my ever faithful Ultimate Baseball Kid (500 ATK/ 1000 DEF/ 3*/ Warrior/ Effect/Fire)!" Alex said. A kid with a spiked baseball bat appeared on his field, smirking to the duel proctor, swinging his bat like he was warming up. "Baseball Kid's effect activates! Per every Fire attribute monster on my field, his attack points go up by... 1000! And I count two!" Alex called.
U.B.K (500 ATK - 2500)
"Now, we can't forget about my Chimera, now can we?" Alex asked hypothetically.
U.B.K (2500 ATK- 3000)
"Now, I play the equip-spell know as Fairy Meteor Crush!" Alex said, a spell card with a falling meteor on it appearing on his field. "I equip it to Baseball Kid! Now, Ultimate Baseball Kid, attack Spear Dragon! Home Run Strike!" Alex commanded, his monster responding in kind. With a yell and a swing of its bat, the baseball player hit the cowering dragon on the head, making it howl in pain before it was destroyed in an explosion. "Oh, did I forget to say Fairy Meteor Crush's effect? When a monster equipped with it destroys a monster in defense mode, it deals the difference between my monsters attack points and your monsters attack points as damage! Looks like you take.... 3000 points of damage!" Alex said. With a yell of pain, the enemy fell back.
Duel Procter: 3600- 600 LP
"Annnnnnnd I think the last attack will go to Little Chimera! Show him why you should be feared!" Alex commanded the small beast, doing just so with a gleam in its eyes. With a hiss, the beast did in its prey.
Duel Procter: 600- 0 LP.
"Yeah! I did it!" Alex yelled, happy to have one the most important duel of his life. "Congratulations applicant. I personally welcome you to duel academy. Please wait in the lobby while we judge your performance," the Duel Procter said, getting a nod from Alex as he smiled, waving to the crowd as he left.
