in which ,, although her heart longs for him ,, a hero must fulfill his duties.
"Sigh. . ."
Amy sat hunched over on the porch of her house plucking away the petals of a daisy she found.
She mindlessly plucked as she starred out at the view in front of her. Her house was placed on a rather lonely hill, a little ways from other houses. The hill granted a view of a grassy field, accompanied by the never ending sky. The place had Sonic written all over it. A place to run around and be free.
Sonic. . . That's what Amy's mind always ended up wondering about. But this time more often then others. Sonic went on another "scavenger hunt". Word reached Sonic about a rumored uprising, of course involving the glorious Eggman, but clues have been pointing towards another as well.
Amy Rose looked down to the once full daisy she had plucked. She discarded it and rested her chin on her hands. Taking a deep breath, she blew a raspberry to break the silence.
"What's up - down - and all 'round, Rosy?"
Amy looked over to see an energized Sonic standing a little way behind her. "Sonic? I thought you had already left?" Amy stood up and dusted off her dress. Sonic took a few steps forward and laughed shortly. "No, I'm about to though. Just figured I'd take a few stops around the place before I go,"
"You came to say goodbye." Amy corrected. Her eye lids fell slightly. "You're ,,heh ,, making it sound like I'm going away for a long time." Amy turned around to the setting sun with her gaze focused on the ground. She crossed her arms as she started to bite the inside of her cheek. "It always feels like a long time," The girl said monotonously. "And I'm not the only one who feels like that."
Sonic again took a few steps forward to stand by her side. Although slow and steady, he still had the signature pep in his step. "Hey, it's not gonna be bad. I've been gone before if ya don't remember." Amy only tensed more at Sonic's comments.
"Ammmmmy," Sonic placed his hands on hips and leaned to the side playfully. "Amesss!"
The pink hedgehog did not budge at Sonic silly attempts to lighten up the mood. He started to realize that Amy was truly upset that he was leaving. "Amy. ." He said her name again, but this time more tenderly. "Y'know, it doesn't get any easier each time you leave." Amy stuck out her bottom lip in a pout. "And don't think that I don't feel like that when others leave too." The pink hedgehog added.
"Ames, you know I won't be gone for long!—"
"Look Sonic ,, " she finally turned to face him. "I'm worried. Something about this doesn't sit right with me." The hedgehog had turned her gaze to the sun. subconsciously she ran her fingers through her signature three quills that refused to be tamed down. "Yes you've gone on leadless chases before but things have been quiet. a little too quiet. and usually ,, things don't end up well when that happens. . . I just want you to be okay."
Sonic would be lying if he said that didn't make him a little sad. He watched her as she still kept her sight on the setting sun. It was like she couldn't bare to look at him.
The blue hedgehog thought for a moment about what to say. It's not like he could stay. What could he do?
A less than stellar idea popped into his mind.
"Wait here—"
Sonic zipped away leaving a blue blur in place of where he once stood. The wind had tousled Amy's hair and the surrounding long blades of grass. she as well held her red skirt down.
The pink hedgehog had waited a moment. Then two ,, then three. Although it wasn't too long ,, perhaps it was for Sonic.
"THIS—" As almost if by teleportation ,, Sonic appeared Infront of Amy with a very poorly cut piece of paper ;
in the shape of a heart?
"is you." he waved the piece of paper in her face before ripping down the middle.
"You're sad that I'm leaving. you feel pathetic." At hearing pathetic Amy's expression had turned into a very unimpressed frown. Her finger twitched. She gave him the "give me one good reason not to summon my hammer" look. Sonic quickly continued.
"And this:" Sonic again had zipped away — and before she knew it he was right back again. Though this time ,, he was trying to peel away tape from the roll with his teeth. Successful he did so. "is me!" He smiled. He looked goofy holding that tape and teared paper in hand.
"Duct tape?" the pinkette laughed as she questioned it ,, and for good reason. "That's right!"
"And now. . Ta-da!!" Now in his hands he held a torn paper heart only being held together by duct tape.
A silent moment passed and the blue hedgehog held a cheery smile.
". . . I don't get it." Amy responded obviously clueless. Oh boy now he had to explain.
A very faint blush dusted his peachy cheeks as he thought for a moment. Yes he gave speeches from time to time ,, but he really was never one with words. Not as much as Amy was.
"Well what I meant was" he scratched the back of his neck. "you're sad so I ,, uh ,, well as a symbol I'm the duct tape cause tape fixes things and I wanted to make you feel better."
Amy stared at him with an expression he couldn't read. As if that horrible explanation wasn't enough ,, now her stare was making him a little insecure. . .
Then she laughed.
As the seconds went ,, the harder she laughed. He bit his tongue and tapped his foot. He really made a fool of himself. . . At least she wasn't sad ,, right?
Her laughter had died down after a minute ,, her hand was still placed on her stomach. She wiped a tear from her eye. "Hehe ,, what kinda metaphor was that? haha!!" Sonic stuttered ,, he struggled to find his words.
"I was just tryna make you feel better you didn't have to laugh!" Sonic crossed his arms and looked away. In a childish way he pouted. Amy laughed a few more times before taking a breath. "I still appreciated it ,, Sonic." She smiled. Her smile being one of pure love ,, appreciation and admiration. As much as Sonic wanted to playfully keep his head turned away while he pursed his lips ,, he green eyes couldn't help but drift over her way.
Then he had fully laid eyes on her. Her attention now turned back over to the setting sun. She truly was a something else. . . His heart felt homesick already.
He was so lost his whole body relaxed. She hadn't even touched him. All she had to do was just exist and there he was unwillingly melting.
He looked toward the ground thinking for a very brief moment.
"What I really mean is. . ."
Sonic had now gotten uncharacteristically close to her. Noses almost touching. Amy's heart was now beating out of her chest.
"No matter where on this planet I may be,"
Sonic leaned even closer to her ,, his eyes set onto her surprised face. The beautiful setting sun complimenting his tender expression.
He moved her soft gloved hand to the left side of her chest.
"I'll always be here."
Amy was to much in shock to say anything. was this really happening? She couldn't even think. All her brain could process was that Sonic was right there. In front of her.
It was quiet. so so quiet.
Only the wind brushing through the grass was heard.
Sonic bit his tongue to keep himself sane.
he really cut out his heart and placed it on the table.
ZOOM
A rush of wind blew past Amy. She yelped and closed her eyes from the sudden snap of wind.
When she open her eyes though ,, he was gone.
She looked toward the open field ,, and lo and behold ,, the blue streak faded away into the horizon.
her ears twitched as she heard the soft crinkle of paper. looking down ,, she saw the taped heart under her foot.
Almost as if it was placed there on purpose.
Bending over to pick it up ,, her gaze ever so tenderly trained on the thin piece of paper ,, she admired it.
If anybody looked at it the first word they would think of is "Raggedy".
To Amy Ross though ,, it was pure gold.
Embarrassment ,, and flustered feelings plagued Sonic.
He couldn't believe he did that. He really did that.
A small part of him regretted it but. . .
how could he regret those moment when she had that look in her eyes?
A goofy uncertain smile was plastered across Sonic's face. He was lovesick wasn't he?
getitogethergetitogethergetitogethergetitogethergetitogether— he chanted and changed.
But then a bush caught his attention.
Particularly ,, a rose bush.
How convenient?
The blue hedgehog chuckled at that. His smile was so soft.
"I'll see you soon ,, Ames."
