Della And The Boys(Family Bonding)

10.) "Where were you when I needed you?" Della and the boys(family angst/slight fluff)

So I'm doing something special. This was requested by both cartoonromantic and Rebeccamurphyslaw! But both asked for ether Dewey/Della and Louie/Della. So instead, I decided to mix both and do Della and the triplets! ANGST OVERLOAD! XD

                                                                ------------------------------

"Mom!"

The pilot was zipped back from her daily daydreaming, the sound of one of her sons crying out to her. A blood curdling scream piercing through her numb ears.

Absorbing her soundings, she squinted, clutching at her chest as sweat dripped down the side of her head. She could feel the heat beating down on her. As she took a step, a shock struck through her back, causing her to hunch over in pain, as she winced, a ceased breath hitching in her throat as she coughed up blood.

Her eyes flickered up between the blood in her hands, and her surroundings, "Where..."  The words crumbled off her bloody beak as her eyes stopped upon a familiar green hooded duckling.

Once realization hit, she was up and running to her child's side, ignoring all the pain that was screaming at her. Her child was hanging off the side of a crumbling cliff! Was she really daydreaming the whole time, and never seemed to notice her own child screaming for help as he clung on for dear life?!

As she forced her thoughts aside to focus on saving him, she slide to the ground, wincing as her beaten up body made contact with the hard rocky earth that was crumbling at an alarming rate beneath them.

Huffing to herself as she pulled Louie back onto the surface and into her arms, the thought of his face not showing never occurred to her; Her mind swarmed as she only had one priority in that moment, "Find a safe area far away from the crumbling edge."

Finally making it to a safe place, she keeled down, ignoring the rocks digging into her skin. Clinging onto her youngest, her heart beat tried to steady itself. "I'm such a bad mother! How could I let myself get so distracted?!"

Her worry bubbled over as the green duckling pushed his own mother away, his gaze still being down cast. A shadow covered his eyes, as his beak twisted into a bitter frown.  A sneer escaping his beak.

Stuttering on her words, she hesitated to touch the side of her son's cheek, "L-Louie?...Are you-"

"Where were you when I needed you?" He looked up, his body going limp in her arms, as his eyes and mouth oozed out black goo. The goo traveled down his face as Della watched in horror. Dripping onto his hoodie, the duckling before her began to drown and disappear. The ooze swallowing his body until their was nothing left but goo in her trembling arms.

He just melted before her very eyes! What was happening?! Is this real or some messed up nightmare? This couldn't be real...right?

The terror in her eyes bore into her hands, as they trembled. She began shaking her head slowly, as tears stung the side of her eyes. Her mind went into overdrive, her fingers began digging into the goo, aching for her son. Words whispered repeatedly through her quivering beak, not wanting to believe what she had just experienced.

"I had him...I-I know I had him! He was in my arms! I-...I couldn't..." her gooey hands covered her beak, muffling her sobs that urged to slip out. She kept shaking her head vigorously. This felt too real to be a nightmare.

The world around her crumbled as she began to fall, fall,...and fall...it just seemed to go on forever...the darkness.

"Why did you have to leave?"

The voice brought light, bright light at that. She shot up as she clutched at her chest, gasping for air.

Scanning around the area, the light being too much on her compared to the darkness she was in for what seemed to be forever. She could hardly make out a blue silhouette.

"Dew-"

"Why did you leave? Why did you leave us? Why did you leave Uncle Donald? Are you really a good person?...Why mom?"

His voice was weak, but powerful enough to shatter her heart...or what was left of it. She bit down on her knuckles, holding back the tears wanting to slip out past her approval. This wasn't the time!

Unable to see much but a blur, she stayed put, fixing herself in a more comfortable position.

She reached out her hand, allowing her presence to be noticed, "Dewey...I love you guys more then anything, understand that-"

The blur shuffled a bit, unless her eyes were playing tricks on her, "-Then why did you leave us?!" The duckling shouted, his voice bouncing off the bright crystal walls.

Her voice on the other hand, was raspy at this point as she mustered her best to put as much heart into her response,  "Because I-"

"Where were you when I needed you?!"

There it was again, the light exploded like an old star and left her to be engulfed by the familiar dark void. She hated the darkness...she may be an adult, but being in the dark wasn't really her forte.

This has to be a nightmare! Because her children are ok, their tucked in bed and sleeping...even though...deep down she knew the words that were said are true.

"You're such a terrible mom! I can't blame you though, I mean...how can I? You were never here to learn how to become one to begin with."

Her heart got  back into motion, as did her surroundings. This time she was in a grassy field but...everything was black and white...more of gray. Even her clothes were drained of color.

Leaning over to a near pond, she peered over to look at herself. She gasped as her hand flew to her cheeks, all the colors from her eyes were gone...they were just plain gray, and dull looking. The water being gray didn't help much though.

Too captivated with her color, she didn't notice the three black shadowy ducklings circling her.

"Where were you when I needed you." Huey whispered, as black tears streaked his face.

She jumped, facing the three standing forms. She bit down on her beak, wanting to say so much, but nothing coming out.

The shadows started to spin in a circle as they all shouted the same phrase she's been hearing throughout this darn nightmare. Why hasn't she woken herself up yet...was it because she knew she deserved this?

Tears sprung to her eyes, as she held her head in her hands. Her eyes were closed shut, she wanted to scream, for this nightmare to stop. But it just kept repeating over and over like a bad memory. That is until one last blow was said.

"Where were you when we needed you?!"

                                                                      ------------------------

"I'M SORRY!" She gasped, holding her hand to her forehead, to travel through her -drenched in sweat- hair.

She stayed like that for a few minutes, allowing herself to reflect and catch her breath.

After her breathing came to a steady pace, she glanced over her shoulder to her clock that read '4:07am.'

Groaning, she swung her legs over her bed, allowing her webbed feet to slip through her brown and fluffy slippers.

Rubbing the side of her head, she yawned. Even though she was still asleep, the nightmare made her feel like she didn't have any.

Not realizing where her feet were leading her, she almost stumbled over her own feet as she came to a familiar stop. Her boys' room.

It wouldn't hurt to take a peek and check if they are sound asleep...right? Yea-

"Where were you when we needed you?!"

Her hand shot back to her side, tightening her eyes.

She shook her head, "No!" She muttered. She needed to ignore those nasty thoughts, no matter how true they are.

Forcing her hand on the knob, she opened the door, making sure to be quiet as to not wake them.

A warm smile crept to her face as she saw her three boys sleeping peacefully...well somewhat peacefully. Louie's body was twisted up, the cover hung off the side of his bed, getting ready to fall. While Dewey was fully under his blanket, this causing worry to shiver through her. Huey on the other hand might of been the only one that seemed to be sleeping comfortably.

She decided to creep on over to fix them. They needed more sleep then she did. She pulled Dewey's blanket down under his chin, enough so that he could breathe. While with Louie, she shifted his body to an angle she assumed that'll be comfortable for him. Before heading out, she had a sudden urge in her heart, pulling her to them.

Following suit with a bit of hesitance, she quietly and swiftly kissed her sons on the head, having to climb up for Huey being the tricky part in her opinion.

Before she was about to close the door, she took one last look.

"I may not have been there in the past...but that doesn't mean I can't be here as much as possible now."

She closed the door with a confident smile and a breath of courage. She was going to do her best to make it up for everything, no matter what.
