11: All I see
The pain is ripped and torn
I wiped out the darkness
-Stealer, Monsta X
"Have I ever been really angry for no reason, mom?"
"Why?" She said absent-mindedly while brewing herbal tea in her pot. "I think so yeah..., when you were a baby." She gave a small smile looking up at me. "You wouldn't stop crying. I had a hard time controlling you."
"I don't remember."
"Of course you don't remember because you were a child. Until you were seven or eight you used to have angry fits for no reason. It reminded me a lot of your dad. Because he had the tendency to have outbursts like that."
"Oh."
"But suddenly you grew quiet, I thought was worrisome. Do you want some tea?" She smiled again.
As I looked at the silver-colored heavy door in front of me with an 'x' engraved in the middle and detailed patterns crafted around the sign, I held my breath and put a hand on the cold metallic handle.
Right before I pushed past I looked at my right where the same bodyguard clad in a dark suit and an earpiece from the last day stood by me.
"What's your name?" It was a tough task to stare at his eyes as he was at least a head taller than me.
My neck hurt, it wasn't the first time I was cursing at myself for having a mediocre height of 164 centimeters, and not that cursing at myself would miraculously grow me an inch taller.
He looked at me for a brief second. "Kim Ryujoon," he said. I noticed that he had a scar on the side of his left eyebrow that had come down to his cheek. He looked like he was in his mid-thirties.
Perhaps he was a little surprised that I showed some interest in him. It was indeed surprising because for the first time I gave attention to the silver door with the x curved on it, and the security guard too trying to learn his name, which I would never do. Because I hardly was ever interested in people.
But when I made up my mind the other day that it was enough running away for me, it indeed was.
The chilly conditioned air hugged me when I stepped inside the room and closed the door behind. After I released my breath the familiar smell finally hit my nostrils and made my head spin.
The smell of rich wine, expensive colognes, and nicotine.
"Guess you are here again," the low voice from an approximate distance gave a shudder down my spine. When I looked back it was the smoker boy with a lit cigarette hanging from his lips as he sat in a dark corner behind the minibar.
"You exceed my expectation every time. I thought that was the last time we would see you here." He let out a puff of smoke while he poured himself a drink.
"Well, I'm here now." I cleared my throat and stood tall on my feet. He was the only one of them who wasn't as tall, still taller than me nonetheless if he wasn't sitting now.
"Since you're so eager." He put out the cigarette and took the glass filled with red wine instead. "Go outside by the backdoor and help out the guys."
He did not utter another word and suddenly poured his full concentration on the bloodlike liquid. Where was everyone anyway, I only asked myself when I went out the heavy door to find the dreaded back door again.
To think about it, that backdoor of the club led me to all this.
Again it led me to the area I had seen before, the dark night with sodium street lamps illuminating the lot but making it eerier, darker. A sign of the club in a wooden placard hanging above my head and slowly swinging back and forth in the night air.
Chilly breeze seeped through my grey hoodie and white cap. Even my outfit was familiar to that night but before me was something different.
It was a black van, Jooheon sitting in the driver's seat. Changkyun and Wonho standing alongside while having an animated conversation between them.
Jooheon was the first one to notice me. He held up a hand and showed a cheeky smile. "When Kihyun texted me saying he's sending more I did not think he meant you."
The other two noticed me too by then. "You have to be kidding me," Changkyun muttered under his breath but loud enough for me to hear.
I did not know what I had gotten myself into and I did not ask too, but this time my curiosity was actually jumping out of the window.
While the car was going by smoothly there wasn't much to focus on except for the loud track Jooheon was blasting through the radio. The glasses were fully tinted black, making me unable to look outside and enjoy the view. Beside me sat Wonho in his purple turtleneck that had a bizarre print all over.
He was so stiff in his seat that I wondered if he breathed, he was so close that I could see the sweat beads on his glossy forehead underneath those turquoise streaks.
On the other side of him, Changkyun sat glued to his phone, his painted nails scrolling through the screen.
"Where are we going exactly?" My voice was lost in the loud music and no one seemed to hear it.
"We are here." Right then Jooheon stopped the music and the car.
When I got outside I realized it was actually a parking lot inside a building. I hesitantly followed the three ahead where a black Toyota sat with the other cars all parked in rows beside.
A man came out of the Toyota and I recognized that I had seen him somewhere before.
Actually I had, the man fixing his glasses, in suits with a briefcase in his hand. The car of his with one of its front lights broken.
I realized this was the man I saw them with that very day behind the clan club.
"I see you haven't repaired it yet," Jooheon snickered. The man only gave a smug look in reply.
"I have your money and I also have a gift for you," He peered his head and looked at me. "Who is that by the way?"
"None of your business," Changkyun sighed "Hand us the money now."
The glasses guy nodded to himself before he put the briefcase down. "Don't you want the gift first though?" The smug smile never left his face when he bent down to get something from his car.
At that moment I could feel Wonho alarmingly shifting beside me.
"This is to pay you back for the other night," He pulled out a rifle from the car.
And when he aimed it to me everything went slow, even though I knew it happened in seconds. I could hear the harsh clicking sound before it came shooting towards me.
I closed my eyes tightly but when I had opened it the next second I was intact, nothing was wrong with me.
But before my feet the lad in the purple turtleneck filled with bizarre drawings laid.
And all I could see was red.
